I want to add another piece to this puzzle now that it's been 2-3 days. I really....REALLY hope this was a productive ordeal. Not for the White Sox. But for baseball. Like it or not, this was a national talking point since it happened, and not just in baseball. On every sports show. It led to a ton of conversation about the "unwritten rules" and the rest of the garbage that comes with it. I don't believe LaRussa will change. But I hope others can and will. I hope MLB takes notice of this, and continues to push players to show personality and continue to entertain fans (Yes, I'd rather see a 3-0 HR by Yermin in the 9th then him keep his bat on his shoulder because "OLD SCHOOL BASEBALL"). I'm not holding my breath, but I think the conversation around this topic has been good and I'm hopeful it leads to change.

Worshiping a mid-70's leader with a shady past who was suddenly given an incredible amount of power out of the blue........WHERE HAVE I SEEN THIS BEFORE?!?!?!
-
Unfortunately I don't always follow my own sage wisdom. I should know better, but there are just too many people that really need an education.

Because you don’t understand it. That’s not what he was upset about. He was asked if an actual pitcher was on the mound instead of a position player in that scenario, what he would like to see happen. Tony said “Ideally I’d send 3 pitchers to the plate, tap the ball back to the mound and be done with the inning.” So you are the one lacking an understanding of what we are talking about. And the cherry on top....even if he is only upset about Yermin swinging on 3-0...HE’S STILL wrong. There is zero difference between 3-0 and 3-1 besides some old assholes that are still living in 1954. None. Here is the good news is all of this. Tony and the rest of the Dinosaur Crew will be out of baseball soon, and the Tim Anderson, Yermin Mercedes of the world are the future. That’s a future I want for baseball. So get used it

Make Baseball Great Again #MBGA

I don’t want to hear about unwritten rules anymore. They are unwritten because if you actually made them rules, everyone would laugh at them. We agree to disagree. There is a fact that I can’t get past, and I don’t see how anyone else can. Tony LaRussa was upset that his DESIGNATED HITTER hit a home run because it would be upsetting to the opposition. I don’t need to have any further discussion about it. It ends there.
-
Do you know why he should be absolutely be swinging there? Because he's paid to do what he did. It was the best possible outcome. Again, for the 100th time, you're upset Mercedes hit a home run for the White Sox. Think about that for a second. Take it in.
-
Then you better stop rooting for the White Sox, as they are giving out these bobble heads on May 28th Move along, grandpa.
-
Of course that's the case. The issue is there are some here that say "Who cares about Tony, this team is in first place and playing great!" So were the 2020 White Sox managed by Rick Renteria. We saw what happened at the end of the season when the games mattered most. We don't want it to happen again, and we're seeing a lot of warning signs early in the season.
-
Your timeline is wrong.
-
The White Sox are 26-16 right now. In 2020, they were 32-15 at one point. So I’m not sure how obvious it is.
-
Do you know why the unwritten rules of baseball aren’t written? Because if they were, everyone would see how stupid they really are.
-
What did he do wrong? Tell us.
-
Yeah, I disagree with this.

I do think it opens up pandora's box and ultimately I don't think it's a great idea, but it has some merit. What's to stop a manager from trying to end a game after 3 innings if the score is 14-0? You would need to have some rules attached to it, like it can only be evoked in the 8th or 9th inning...but even then I'm not crazy about it.
-
This also isn't true because Jayce Tingler is 40 years old and is clearly an old school red ass. It won't change until people stop accepting it. And there are already far too many people on this board defending the actions of LaRussa.
-
I would actually argue that it could work, but not for the dumb ass reasons the LaRussa stans are talking about. If a rule needs to be put in place to protect old school slapdicks from ruining this game, they can piss off. However......in the 9th inning it was 15-4. The Twins decided to save a bullpen arm and put a position player on the mound. We are seeing it happen across baseball this year, and I believe it's mostly to save the bullpen. If Baldelli came out to to homeplate before the 9th inning started and meet with umpires and LaRussa and said "Hey, we're calling this, you guys win, let's go home........it's then up to LaRussa to accept or say "No, we want to play the 9th out" Clearly, LaRussa would have accepted and the game would have been over. And I'm not sure how many players would really be upset with it...
-
Except Yermin Mercedes is an adult, and seeing he is a 28 year old career minor league player making his ML debut this season......I'd bet all the money in my pockets, against all the money in your pockets, that if you asked Yermin Mercedes 1. Would you take the trade off of hitting a HR for having someone throw behind him and/or hit him with a pitch 2. Would you still have swung 3-0 on that pitch knowing the future outcome......both answers to the question would be "Yes" Tony LaRussa called his rookie clueless and made it a point to publicly apoligize to a division rival.....but now the LaRussa stan's are saying "All Tony was doing was protecting Yermin..."
-
I don't understand how someone like you can function at a human level if you believe the bolded to be true. Boggles the mind.
-
It was still the wrong call. It's the same line of thinking saying "LaRussa isn't an issue, this team is winning!" Bunting in the 5th inning is wrong. It was wrong today, it will be wrong tomorrow.
-
Awesome to see Gio and Hendricks have two nice bounce back games. As @fathom mentioned, going to be really nice having a win to talk about tomorrow on an off-day
-
That's the Hendricks I wanted
-
There would be very little incentive for Gio to sign anything right now.
-
I've been working and had the game on in the background.......score aside...has Gio been good today?
-
So that's a win? Let's see what the score is in an hour, and if that 1 run won the game. Right now....it didn't earn them a win. Stop giving away outs for less runs.
