As I said last night, it can't be understated how much value there is in talking to 5-10 different candidates for the job that come from different backgrounds and organizations, and get free insight into what needs to be done to fix your organization. But as we've seen with the Sox and Bulls, that's simply not how Jerry does business. He's smarter than everyone else.
-
Two things 1. Chris Getz the person isn't the problem. Could he be good at the job? Maybe, but like most Jerry Reinsdorf talent searches...there was no process done. There wasn't a search done. They didn't do interviews. They fired Rick and Kenny, and clearly have their replacements in place 2. Answer honestly....would any other team in Major League Baseball have Chris Getz on their interview list for their open GM position? That's a problem to me.

The Law article is nothing we don't know, but summed up so well.
-
By removing Kenny and Rick for the organization, at the bare minimum, you allow yourself the opportunity to sit down with smart minds from around the league and get a free assessment of your organization and what needs to be done to your operations to create a winner. All it costs you is time and preparation. But by all accounts, even that is too much work for the White Sox. Grandpa LaRussa is now calling the shots, and Chris Getz seems like the perfect fit, because he's of course...already part of the family. f***.This.Organization.

I don't see ANY scenario where this can happen.
-
87 year old Jerry Reisndorf is relying on the 78 year old Tony La Russa to make the best determination on how his baseball team should be run in 2023 and beyond. Let's stop pretending Jerry Reinsdorf is a completely logical and rational person that makes sound decisions based on logic.
-
I think you can seriously wonder if a new GM/President would have the opportunity/budget to employee those people. Do those positions exist with the Sox? Didn't a report come up a few weeks ago that the Cubs had close to 80 analytic employees, and the Sox have around 20?
-
All I'll say is I've heard differently, on multiple occasions, from people I very much trust.
-
Problem with that is...it takes two people for that to work. I believe the organization, even without Kenny/Rick, has such a bad reputation, someone from a "good" organization would rather stay put and wait for the right opportunity instead of signing up for the Jerry Reinsdorf Experience. There is too much history, with multiple professional sports organizations, that tells you the core is rotten.
-
What's hilarious/insanely depressing about all of this is if you asked Sox fans what is the absolute WORST case scenario that could happen after Rick/Kenny were let go.....Having Tony LaRussa help Jerry settle on Chris Getz/Dayton Moore would probably be No. 1 on the list. And that's exactly what they are going to do.

I'd like to get off the ride now
-
I don't blame you for that, I really don't. I was happy yesterday as well. But we have been saying for the last 5 years the only thing that changes is when all 3 go, not just some of it.
-
Seriously. I don't really understand why so many thought an 87 year old was going to have some sort of monumental shift in how he operates. Why would anyone think they would do they right thing?
-
What has Bob been wrong about in his reporting on the Sox the last 5 years? I can tell you what he's been right about, I don't remember what he's gotten wrong. You tell me
-
Aside from just, not wanting to believe it...what evidence is there to tell you any of Bob's article is false? He was the ONLY one to bring up LaRussa being a potential option for the Sox as manager after Ricky, we all said he was crazy, and then it happened. His article gets into detail about how Kenny and Rick were both let go, speaks on Tony being involved with Jerry and Pedro, and uses strong wording to state Getz is by far the favorite right now. You think his source is Rick or Kenny? Come on, Bob is smarter than that. He clearly spoke to Jerry yesterday.
-
You think Jerry just came to his decision yesterday, and has given no thought to who would replace Rick/Kenny? They said in the statement they expect someone in the position by the end of the season. That's like 40 days. When Jerry fired KW/Rick yesterday, he 100% knew who would be replacing them.
-
There is NO WAY it doesn't happen. Like, there is no possible way Sally isn't the starting catcher for the Sox next season if Moore/Getz is hired. And they will prop him up as the new Abreu/leader. Same s%*#, different year.
-
It's why I said yesterday while getting Kenny and Rick out of the org is a good, the only way any of this changes is if ALL 3 are gone. Jerry still being here solves nothing. Getz and Moore? It's a different paint job on the Titanic.
-
Logic is NEVER something that should be associated with the White Sox, BUT....if Jerry came to the decision Rick and Kenny were not right for this team, why would anyone associated with Rick and Kenny be?
-
There is no point to get rid of him now. This season is a total waste, and aside from Getz coming in, any outsider is going to see this is a total tear down. There is literally one guy on this roster that could be part of a “good” Sox team in the future. Bring in the right person, let them make all the calls moving forward.
-
The owner is still in charge….we’ve seen this play out before. I, and every other Sox fan, should wait to see who the hire is before getting excited. This is a good day for the Sox organization, no doubt. But as others have said, if Chris Getz is placed as new President of Baseball Ops, or Jim Thome….we’re in for the same old s%*#

2 down, 1 to go
-
He inherited Jordan, gifted Derrick Rose and was at the helm of one very lucky season in 2005. He is an unbelievably poor owner and the city will be a better place with him out of the picture

I think Rick has done an incredibly poor job and have always said I believe there are GM's out there that COULD operate and win under the restraints Jerry puts on. However, there is zero evidence to tell me Jerry would have the smarts to hire someone like that. So why should we think anything will change if Rick is gone? The new hire will have traits Jerry likes...which should be a huge red flag to every Sox fan.
