The Bears at this point don't deserve ANY benefit of the doubt.........but they can't go down a road where they are talking to all these candidates that are getting people excited, then turn around and the 79-year-old leading the search ends up giving it to himself.....I just can't fathom that taking place.
-
Wrong. They put together a committee that seems like it is headed by Bill Polian, so the next "Top Football Guy" for the Bears will infact be hired by a "football guy."
-
I would be a fan of Rick Smith coming on board as well.
-
And I agree with you, basically 100%. George has to make the call here, no one argues that. And it's hopefully the last important football decision he has to make in a very long while. But again, in my eyes, using Bill Polian is fine (although I think the game has passed him by in a lot of ways and would have liked a younger name) but then George says the GM and HC will report directly to George. So is George now getting MORE involved with the day-to-day football side of things? There is my issue. Ted should have NO involvement with football (that didn't happen today) and George should put together a committee to find a new Football Ops President, and let that guy and that guy alone report to George, but the GM and HC will report to the Football Ops President (That didn't happen today either.) Instead we got George telling us how pissed Mom is and while they used this same process to hire Emery and Pace...this time it's going to be different.

No, that's not my point, but it's the reason I'm frustrated with both you and @bmags, because you think the media and fans are being unfair to the Bears and aren't actually listening to the points being made, but instead calling the small, semantical differences when they are anything but. I'll try one more time, then I'm actually done. The Bears have been an absolute mess since George took over in 2011. That's a fact that can't be argued. They have never won a playoff game with him as Chairman. In the case of Ted Phillips, someone who has been CEO since 99, and I believe that's good for 23 years on the job and 6 playoff appearances, none resulting in a Super Bowl. Phillips, has up until this point been responsible for bringing in GM's to this organization since he arrived, and as we noted....hasn't done a very good job. Today, after George fired yet another GM/HC combo, we learned that while Ted will no longer have the GM and HC report to him.....he'll still have a voice in the room and help find the next GM of the Bears. The new GM will now report to George, WHO IN THE SAME PRESS CONFERENCE WAS ASKED TO EVALUATE JUSTIN FIELDS AND HIS RESPONSE WAS "I'M JUST A FAN." I already described what should have taken place. 1. Ted Phillips should be removed from any decision-making when it comes to football. That did not take place as he will have a hand in picking the next GM. That point can't be argued. 2. If George just wants to be a fan that happens to own an NFL team, then he shouldn't have any say in football matters either. As I said earlier, create a team and find a President of Football Ops. Then let that guy go out and find a GM and Coach. You say that's just semantics, but it's anything but. Let's take Ryan Pace for example. Under the current Bears structure, if Pace wanted to bounce ideas off someone, maybe speak to someone a little more veteran than he is.....he had to sit down with Ted and George. That alone is terrifying. Rick and Kenny can talk to each other. Arturas and Eversley can talk to each other. Theo and Jed could talk to each other. But god forbid anyone could be above Ryan Pace...He's got "George The Fan" for advice! Quite frankly you're being incredibly lazy with your takes and effort here. You're coming at me saying: When in reality, that's not what I've been saying at all, and instead YOUR the one who's saying "Well I give George an F for performance but aww shucks, he's the owner, guess there isn't anything else we can expect and I guess we just have to keep rooting for them and hope they luck into winning! Go Bears!" Bullshit.
-
You clearly don't judge the Bears on results either.
-
We just see things way different. They are doing things the same way they always do. George took over in 2011 and doesn't have a playoff win to his name as Owner. Expect similar results. Enjoy!
-
That pesky media, they always get it wrong!
-
Thank you for explaining how sports work. That was very helpful for this process.

This is where you and @bmags aren’t grasping the concept. Today could have been different if George came out and said “We aren’t going to repeat the same process we took with Phil Emery and Ryan Pace. As of today, Ted Phillips no longer has any contact with anything that transpires on the field. He is focused on the Bears as a business. Because of that, we now need to hire a President of Football Operations. That job starts now, and a committee comprised of Bill Polian, Name, Name And Name will be in charge of finding the right person for the job. Ultimately I will hire that person, but once completed, that person will find us the next GM and HC of the Chicago Bears.” That’s how you get fans on your side, give them some hope things are changing. Instead, we literally got the exact same press conference we seem to get every 5-7 years. And you can’t understand why fans and media are upset?
-
Then I don’t think you understand what people are upset about. They fired Nagy and Pace. That was the easy part. Anyone could have done that. The issue is after hearing from George and Ted…the process to find the next GM and HC will be the exact same process that they used to find Pace and Nagy. Ted Phillips will once again be involved. Why should any fan expect a different result? The entire organization needs to be re-done. No one expects George to just sell the team. But until he keeps relying on Ted Phillips to have a say in football decisions, this is just another day in Bears Land.
-
-
And the clarity confirms George still has no idea how to run a successful football team.
-
Silvy is right. The Bears can't have it both ways (but they'll sure as hell try.) Ted Phillips WILL be involved in hiring the new GM/Coach, but then once they are hired they report to George.

The guy has a career 48-65 record during his time with the Bears and had 1 season over .500 He never saw his team win a playoff game. He was very bad at this job. But I'm glad @Harold's Leg Lift "gets why he was fired" because it can be tough to understand why......?
-
Can't tell if this is a joke or not.

They did it!

Appreciate the reply. But I guess aside from being a “good guy” which I agree he does seem like a positive, likeable human…I’m still not sure what I can point to that tells me he is a good football coach. The organization had a great year going 12-4 and Nagy deserves credit for that like everyone else. We saw some creative plays, fun season. But things got worse every year. How many press conferences did we have to hear when Nagy would give us “That one is on me.” Or “Yeah we’d like to do that one over again if we had the chance?” I guess what I’m saying is I can walk and chew gum at the same time. I can realize Ryan Pace continued to make moves that hurt this organization and made this roster worse over time. At that same time, I can realize very few players developed under Matt Nagy and his offense continued to rank near the worst in the league on a regular basis. For someone brought in that was entirely offensive minded and didn’t touch the defense…I expect more from my head coach. He was very bad at his job during his time in Chicago, deserves to be fired and I would be very upset if I was the fan of another team and they hired him to be my new offensive coordinator. Again, the man fired himself from the job…twice…during his time in Chicago.
-
Why are you such a Nagy fan? I've noticed it with your other posts but never have asked. He's had a fairly long track record of being a very bad offensive play caller. My guess is he becomes a QB coach somewhere, and then will eventually get another OC job because of the good'ole boy network....but given what he did in his short time with the Chiefs, then in Chicago (He fired himself TWICE as the offensive play caller) I don't see why anyone gives him an OC job next season.
-
Not a chance. And if it did happen, this city might actually explode.
-
But we’ve seen it too many times in this city….Gar/Pax, AK/ME, KW/Hahn….even with these two man systems in place, the top dog is still the one signing off on big decisions. Pax was still in charge with Gar as GM. Hahn still reports to his boss, KW. I don’t want Pace anywhere near the decision making process for the team I’d like to root for. He isn’t good at that job, and he’s had 7 years to show that to us. Why should any of think the guy he hires for GM will be talented? Is Pace going to hire someone who sees TOTALLY differently than he does? Because that’s the only way you sell me on that lol. It’s just maddening because the Bears have the blueprint right there with what the Bulls did. Clean slate, start fresh. AK/ME/Billy Donovan are all in this together…if Nagy goes and Pace stays…..1. How much rope does Pace have? What coach wants to stake his reputation to Pace? 2. Of Pace doesn’t have a lot of rope, and might be fired in the next 1-2 seasons, now you have a new GM coming in with a head coach the last guy picked….not ideal.
-
I just can't understand or wrap my head around the idea of getting excited about the Bears future with Pace still calling the shots. He's responsible for 0 playoff wins in 7 seasons. He's made brutal roster decisions that have been well documented. He's made bad coaching hires and clearly can't evaluate the QB position which is the most important position in sports. A new head coach isn't going to solve those problems. Nagy needed to go 100%, but if Pace doesn't go....you're not solving your problem. The Bears are essentially going on a diet, but still ordering pizza, burgers, and cake.....but switching from regular coke to diet coke in hopes to save some calories.

You're a gigantic baby. What did you hope to accomplish with this post? People feeling sorry for you? Did you want people to join in on the pitty party? You're the same guy that literally asked the admin team to ban you, only to reach out shortly after because you just couldn't go without this place. But now you're this "broken fan" Stop acting like a child and if something is upsetting you, do something about it. I haven't watched a second of the Hawks this year. Sold my 2007 Toews jersey (which actually netted me a solid return.) I'll check in on the NHL here and there but don't miss it right now. Really have enjoyed watching the Bulls. Stop doing things you don't like. And if you're going to continue doing it, then come here and cry about it, you're going to get shit about it from me, and others like you already have.
