Hahn is basically saying what we all suspected. They are done until the trade deadline.

The Dodgers' SP Brett Anderson is out 3-5 months after back surgery. The Dodgers could need some SP depth & The White Sox need an OF. Potential match growing even stronger?

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) Dyson hurt for KC. That would suck if it causes Royals to sign AJax Not like the Sox will sign him anyways. If any add happens, probably comes from a trade.

Ian Desmond Signs 1 Year 8M Deal with Rangers
SoCalSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (daggins @ Feb 27, 2016 -> 06:10 AM) Sox brass probably reached out to Desmond to see if his price has dropped. Someone leaked to Rodriguez. There may be nothing or there may be something, but no one else is on it, so take that how you will. No one leaked s*** to Mibelt because the guy has no sources. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) I've been of the belief they have no money left, but then you see a deal like Coghlan's today and they could have easily offset his salary by unloading someone like Petricka. It really makes me think they're specifically targeting someone. Who fits the bill at this point? Bruce is expensive in terms of salary. Maybe Jennings or Guyer? Reddick? I wish we had an idea what was going on. Also, how accurate has Levine been lately? I haven't really been keeping tabs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) It is kind of crazy how some of these deals have come out of nowhere (Khris Davis, Coghlan), yet the Sox have been linked to just about everyone and nothing's happened. I'm at a loss for words with how this has all shaken out. I honestly don't understand it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Sure seems like Austin Jackson has limited options right now. Really only see WSox, Rangers, Angels and Indians. Indians, Rangers and Angels supposedly don't have payroll space. We've said that with just about every FA out there so far & yet we are still here. I'm not ruling out any team at this point for any player.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) They're going to get Ethier before March 23rd. If they couldn't afford Fowler or anyone over $10M AAV, I can't see them landing him.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) I believe this actually places us back at #28, because now Baltimore doesn't lose a pick, right? Baltimore lost pick w/ Gallardo signing. Just means they don't move up in the 2nd.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) Not based off of what Hahn said today David Kaplan @thekapman 1h1 hour ago Rick Hahn on @ESPN1000: "I fully expect that we'll make another move for 2016. But, until it happens you never know if it will get done." I guess I mean an impact move, not a Victorino type move. I fully expect some s*** move to say they did something but more speaking about a real positive WAR starter.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Seeing Coghlan go for so cheap makes me think they're targeting someone specifically. Ethier remains the likely target, IMO Or could it be the fact that they are truly done? I really don't know at this point but what I do know is they have officially pissed me off.
-
I'm not mad about Fowler particularly but there are multiple options that have been out there & that continue to be out there & somehow Hahn & Co. can't seem to pull the trigger. It begs the question: What the hell are waiting on?
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) Jason Gage tawt me how to spell. Ha! gotta lighten the mood somehow, right?
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) Do they loose a pick? No, but they lose a pick

The WhiteSox have been outclassed within their own division this offseason but how can this FO stand around & watch what the Cubs are doing & honestly think they aren't losing support? What the Cubs have build is magnificent on paper & frankly, it's a disgrace to Sox fans that they can't even try to compete. This is coming from someone who doesn't mind the Cubs, either. Just coming from a business mindset. Call it what you will but the Sox have not done enough & continue to screw up & lose support. Gonna be a long few years for Sox fans in Chicago.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) Seems they are trying to contend with the same payroll from last year. I like all the acquisitions this offseason but I still have no idea if they will look to rebuild if this season goes bad I think that's my main issue. The fact that they don't seem to have a set direction. All I want is to see this team be good. As of now, I'm not confident enough to say that will happen.
-
I'm just... Confused. The #WhiteSox claim to be broke, so if that was the case, why did they ever think trading so many prospects instead of selling was a good idea? As of right now, they projected mainly mediocre. Which is ironically what they've been a lot since 2005.
-
Fowler at less than $12M AAV over 3 years? That's a great deal.
-
Is "trash" an option?

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) Hahn is going to find an OFer to take at bats away from Avi. I don't think it will be a -1 WAR position in 2016. If the Sox don't upgrade the position before the season starts then I fully expect them to at the trade deadline if we are in contention for a playoff spot. Everyone is just mad bc it hasn't happened yet. I think people (including myself) are irritated because we fully expect them to have to upgrade at a higher price in a few months when they realize they made a mistake by not doing it this offseason.

QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) Forgive me if I don't take your judgement to heart. You don't need to, just saying that you taking flawed defensive metrics as the gospel is a skewed way of judging a player.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) It's confirmed by the eye test. That Bill James guy...what the hell does he know about baseball right? You putting all your eggs in 1 basket to defend a point says all it needs to. I've watched multiple Cubs games last year & outside of bad jumps from time to time (hence the below average), he's not the liability you make him out to be.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 01:35 PM) Yeah he does suck. He gave up more runs than most outfielders the past 2 years. Sometimes it better to watch with your eyes instead of relying on unreliable metrics.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 01:30 PM) Cause he sucks on defense and would cost them a draft pick He doesn't "suck" on defense. Below average? Sure. Suck? No.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) Again, might have been special circumstances for "star" players or the Sox backloading those contracts like crazy. We still have not heard a single confirmation that a legitimate offer was made to those guys. I guess I'm just confused to why Fowler is valued as "worth it". Going rate for 1 WAR is what $7M? Fowler averages 2 WAR+ each year, so to me that seems like a very nice value. Just confusing, I guess.
