  1. Curious how much further one of the OF'ers would take them.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 07:11 AM) Yasiel Sierra is signing a 6 year $30 million deal with the Dodgers. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/dodg...sel-sierra.html $5M a year? Man, another great deal for the Dodgers on some high upside pitching.
  3. Like I was saying yesterday, I highly doubt the Sox end up with Cespedes or Upton. I'll predict Fowler to the Sox at this point. Cheaper & a shorter term deal.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) I love how people go back and hate the package we gave for Samardzija. It was worth the risk. At the time, not a bad trade, and honestly, all of the players we gave up are/were easily replaceable. What did we honestly give up in that package? lol. Semein- Can't field to save his life. Bassett- Had Montas, Danish, Johnson, Adams, & now Fullmer all in front of him. Phegley- Nothing more than a questionable backup catcher with 1 impressive minor league stint. Ravelo- Maybe the most promising prospect & not even in their top 10. I see nothing worth b****ing about.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) What has happened today to make you think that? Not just today but over the past few days. I feel like the longer this drags out, the more teams that will get involved due to a lower price & the Sox will get caught standing there. I'm currently trying to talk myself into either Fowler or Jackson just to keep from being disappointed. It's honestly more of a gut feeling than anything based on what I read & see. I hope they land one of the two but by nature, I'm more negative than I am positive.
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) I absolutely believe it is. I'm not optimistic at all that we land one of the OFers. Plus I'm not a big fan of Fowler so that doesnt leave many options. My confidence in them landing one of the big 2 has all but gone away at this point. I think Fowler is a good option at the right price, coupled with another (even small) upgrade at SS or SP.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) Assuming you believe the rumors that we are only going 3 years on Cespedes or Upton. Parra was below replacement player level last year and could get 3 years out of a team. Same could be said for Span although he was better last year. OFers getting these years doesnt help lower the actual good players cost. Oh okay, gotcha. Personally, I think it's naïve to think they could land either top 2 player on anything less than 4-5 years.
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) Yeah last year he wasnt very good. I dont care how much money he gets. I definitely dont want him in the OF. But if he does get 3 years. That's certainly not good news for us. Why not?
  9. I keep forgetting about Jackson, although if they are going to get 2nd tier on an OF'er, Fowler would probably be the best get. A little younger than Cespedes & a 2-2.5 WAR per year type player. If they decide to do that & add a SP, I think that may actually improve the team the same if not more, unless Cespedes has another career year. I think the true difference would be the dynamic of the line up. Eaton Fowler Abreu Frazier LaRoche Cabrera Lawrie Avila/Navarro Saladinor or Eaton Cabrera Abreu Cespedes Frazier LaRoche Lawrie Avila/Navarro Saladino
  10. So let's say this. Cespedes on a 4/$88M ($22M AAV) deal or Fowler on a 3/$42 ($14M AAV) & a SS or 4/5 starter w/ the remaining $8M they save per year. What improves the team more?
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Problem with the Tigers getting Cespedes is it could make them really good the next two years or so, which is supposedly the Sox window as well. I don't disagree & this has been my worst fear all along. Gordon back to KC & Cespedes back to Det. I think the Sox are on the edge of contention right now & a big add like Cespedes or Upton puts them over the top. Fowler/Parra is an upgrade but isn't as big of an impact. Overall, I think if they do choose to sign a "B" type FA, they need to put the rest of that money elsewhere. I'm worried about the back end of their rotation, too.
  12. I think now would be a great idea to simply temper expectations on what the Sox will do. I think they upgrade at the position but may not be Cespedes or Upton. May be a 2nd level guy like Fowler, Parra, or a trade option. Detroit is rumored to be getting more involved & frankly I think the longer this drags out, the less likely it is that they end up with the top 2.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) If the Rockies do get Parra, I'd have to assume that CarGo is traded. I just hope the Sox aren't the team that deals for him. I'd prefer not to see any more big trades.
  14. I will say, it's very weird to see the secondary market dropping into place before the top end settles. The Angels signing Parra would be good for the Sox's chances of landing an upgrade.
  15. Angels rumored to be 2 of the 3 finalist for Gerardo Parra on a 3 year deal. Take that FWIW.
  16. If the White Sox were to go with someone like Fowler, etc over Cespedes & Upton, with the possibility of improving at SS or a back of the rotation guy, would people be happy with that or not enough?
  17. I'll go ahead & say it, I'd be very surprised to see the Sox get Cespedes or Upton. I think they'll turn their attention to the 2/3 tier guys.
  18. Like I was worried about before, the longer this goes on, the lower the price/years get & the more teams (some attractive) decide they want to get in on it. I think the Sox will add an OF but starting to doubt it's one of the top 2 guys.
  19. I don't like hearing 6 teams are in on Cespedes. Incarcerated Bob naturally comes in shortly after & says Orioles & a "mystery team" have made offers to him. (Obviously fake but still)
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) We won't trade top prospects for CarGo. It'll be like Adam Engel and Jace Fry or something. The middle of their system is already depleted. At this point, trading for a guy like CarGo makes little sense. Buck up, sign a FA & move the hell on. If they aren't willing to do that, sign a 2nd tier guy or get off the pot.
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) Is anyone else getting tired of this s***? Very.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) Someone is going to get left standing. With the market having 3 big time bats (Davis, Upton, Cespedes) on it, but only a couple of teams still having some cash and openings, you really don't want to be the last guy left standing. There is a big incentive to sign first, and maybe second. Signing 3rd is bad. This is my biggest worry with the Sox. I'm worried either Cespedes or Upton will sign with a team & then the pressure will be heavily on them. Obviously Chris Davis isn't an option for the Sox, which makes one of the other two signing a bigger deal.
  23. Denard Span got the 3/$31M & a 4th year mutual option for $12M w/ a $4M buyout. It's pretty obvious that they won't get Cespedes/Upton on a 3 year deal.
  24. Reported that he has a mutual 4th year option as well for $12M or a $4M buyout. Proving once again that 3 years won't get it done with the top two.
  25. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) I think Detroit is sitting back just waiting. The owner is dirt old and wants to win. My gut says he just throws whatever the hell it takes to get him back there last second. They are playing their cards close but I think when it comes down to it they will wipe everyone out with their offer. That's my gut feeling as well.
