QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) Turning 32 in February. Yeah, just saw that. Was going to edit that but you beat me to it.
-
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) Can't see how this deal doesn't help the Sox, years and money. I felt like Span wasn't worth $10M per, honestly. Plus he's almost 33 & got 3 years. No chance one of the top 2 signs a 3 year deal, IMO.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 02:50 PM) Anyway you want to look at this, this is HUGE news for he Sox. Baltimore, Tigers, Angels, Nationals and Sox left for these big OFers imo. Add Texas just to be safe.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) That would be huge. IMO the only other serious contenders if SF signs Span is Balt, LAA (who is up against the cap or spending limit), CHW, Det (ditto AF), and Wash. I will say there been a more talk this week about Cespedes and the Nats. I just want Cespy May want to add TEX to that list as well. Cap constricted but could happen.
-
I truly think the Giants were a big contender. Good news for us Sox fans.
-
Per Jon Heyman, Giants are nearing a deal with Denard Span. One less serious contender out there.
-
If true, this simply means they won't land Cespedes or Upton. I think this is a good time to simply change our expectations. Fowler would be nice, too.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:06 AM) I don't think they actually believe this but I also don't think that these guys have markets. The Orioles can't afford Davis and Upton/Cespedes. Giants are trying to trade for Ozuna and are linked to Fowler. Angels supposedly have no $$. Detroit is supposedly out of $$. The Rangers want Upton on a shorter deal. I still think the Sox are the favorites for Cespedes but I could be very wrong. My main issue is that Gordon got 4 years guaranteed & an option for a 5th. He was the oldest OF'er of the 3 & was projected to be the cheapest & still got 4/5 years. That's my concern.
-
If the Sox think they can get one of those two for three years or less, we might as well get over the fact that they aren't landing one now.
-
I can't imagine Fowler getting less than Melky at this point... Maybe I'm wrong.
-
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) I see your point and I like it Balta but I think it completey overlooks lineup impact. WAR fails to acknowledge the fact that the one player makes our lineup scary while the other doesn't. Who the hell wants to pitch to Abreu Cespedes & Frazier? Those guys can change the score with one swing. One bad pitch changes the game. Exactly. Projections & past stats are cool but it's a much different situation given the scenario.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) That's where I'm at. Land Cespedes and keep your pick. Then add a RHP starter. If Hahn's feeling froggy maybe even add Desmond. Exactly, they did more than enough within the trade market. Sack up, pay Cespedes & move on to the next move.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) And that lower WAR was in the AL with Houston at a younger age. His 1.4 fWAR w/ Houston was in 2014. Not very long ago at all, actually.
-
I think the White Sox become instant contenders if they add one of the big 2 but if they fail to do that, I just can't see how adding a Fowler or Jackson gets them where they need to be.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) If you're not willing to trade Anderson or Fulmer and you hesitate on Adams then either: 1. You land Cespedes 2. You land Upton 3. You land 1-2 of the lesser guys and for some reason are confident that puts you over the top. If the Sox aren't willing to dip into their system at that level, and pay the price it will take for a guy in a trade equivalent to the top guys, they still need to come up with something and they better believe it makes them a division contender. Really no other options. It has to be one of those 3 or trading someone they don't want to trade. That's what I would think, too. My biggest worry is that they aren't going to buck up for one of the top 2 remaining guys. Cespedes still makes the most sense in terms of availability & ties but I'm worried they are going to limit themselves on years alone & screw themselves.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) I think the likelihood of the Sox trading for an outfielder has gone up. Imo, the FA outfielders are too costly. We shall see. The rest of this week and weekend should be a fun ride! How much more can the Sox dip into their system at this point, though? That's my biggest concern.

Power has been out most of the day today, just now seeing the Gordon thing. The inner idiot in me wants to panic w/ Gordon signing. Seems like teams are flocking away from Cespedes & going to Upton (namely the Orioles). What's everyone else's feel on this?
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) Could you imagine Ken Rosenthal going all incarcerated Bob Ha! Dude, that guy is a nut. 85% of his following is fake & he has multiple fake accounts that he trolls people on. Consistently searches his name, too.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 07:58 PM) Ya he's getting to caught up in a pissing match with people. Yeah... I know he's taking it to heart but I told him he's got to just let it go. Takes away from his reporting.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 07:46 PM) I don't trust this KC guy. He bet his reputation that Gordon would be a Royal by Christmas... so I guess he doesn't have a reputation. Biggest mistake these guys that get info & try to break stuff is simple: They always give timelines. NEVER give a timeline. Situation far too fluid.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) I hope so, I wonder what Rabbit thinks about this KC guys update. Rabbits been pretty clear his sources have said we want Gordon primarily. I have no doubt the Sox are targeting Gordon as their top guy but raBBit also knows that him going back to KC is a real possibility.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) I just don't know if Fowler is worth it since he costs a pick. I keep forgetting he does cost a pick. I still think he'd ultimately be a good sign if they can't land a top 3 guy. I still think they end up with Cespedes.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 07:34 PM) Ya the guy has been pretty sure that gordon is staying in kc. Don't know if he knows something or just hoping lol I think it's a combo of both, lol. I think he's getting second hand info & is just hoping that it's KC he signs with.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 07:17 PM) This was the same person that said he was gaurenteed to sign before Xmas eve. But it seems he might have "sources" within KC. He was also the only one outside of raBBit connection the Sox & Royals long before the national guys picked it up. I think he gets info but he's also a giant homer & let's that get in the way of the reality of Gordon's situation.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 07:11 PM) Unfortunately I think we only sign one of the big three if things break the right way for us. This means Davis heads back to Baltimore and the market for these guys continues to decrease. I'm pretty sure the Sox are stuck on there numbers and it'll be up to the players if they want to come here on a three year deal. I'm starting to think our excitement the past few weeks will end in a whimper. Hahn/Williams aren't stupid by any means & what I mean by that is this: They know they need another piece (OF'er) to put the icing on this offseason. Even if they miss on the top 3 guys, a signing of Fowler would make a lot of sense & improve this team as well. I have faith they make an add, I just hope it's a one of the top 3 out there.
