  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) I'd guess it's because they usually tweet realistic "signings" based on current rumors Stop with that logic & let me have my conspiracy theory.
  2. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Just saying stay away from the fake Ken Rosenthal twitter account Every time those fake accounts start saying the same thing, the signing usually happens. lol. It's so weird but it's a trend I've noticed lately.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Like Latos? Was just about to say that...
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) As long as this has drug out, I don't think it would be big. Maybe $3 to $5 million. I meant a big deal with one of the OF'ers, plus Alexei. Not sure what his price tag is at this point. Payroll won't be cheap IF they sign one of those OF'ers.
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) Rosenthal was on high heat on MLBN. Just reiterated what he said this morning. Expects us to add Gordon or Cespedes and that we will be adding an OF Thanks for the update. Now I'll be checking the computer/phone every 5 seconds!
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) I think with every big move, the odds of Alexei coming back go up. Even if he doesn't stay as your starter, it gives you another option, especially if Saladino flops. Can the Sox afford him after a big signing? Alexei would still be the best option at SS for another year, IMO. Saladino doesn't worry me as much as some, though.
  7. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:19 PM) My overall question to this is what's the overall point of having sources at all in sports media, specifically relating to offseason activity? Like what's the benefit of being the first to announce the Sox are trading for Frazier 9 minutes before it's officially announced? I almost feel sorry for guys like Rosenthal etc who spend so much time gathering information that is completely useless. As a fan I'm perfectly fine waiting the extra 9 minutes for something to be announced officially. What am I missing? Do they hand out cookies or extra money to guys for popping stories 9 minites early. What's sad is I feel like these guys are mostly used by front offices to plant stories for leverage. Front offices are awesome. That has a lot of value to fans. That's the main reason they get paid to do what they do.
  8. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) yes you did call it. Haha, just gotta relax man. I personally know raBBit, he's a good due & has his stuff in order. Things happen slow in the MLB, especially this year.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) This is not true, rosenthal, nightengale, heyman dont name who their sources are. If anyone starts naming their sources, then they dont have sources anymore. Rule 1 about having sources: Don't name your source. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me to name my source(s) over twitter, I'd have at least a bill or two in my pocket.
  10. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) I was wrong about you rabbit you have good connections keep the info coming. Didn't I call this a few pages back?
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) With all these non-big-name people with "sources" that you see on Twitter/message boards, I pretty much do not buy any of it. You have to ask yourself what purpose would it serve for someone who is on the inside of the knowledge (agent, team, etc.) to feed such information. If you cannot easily answer that question, then you should be extremely skeptical of any "sources." No offense to bucket or rabbit, but why would anyone give these guys inside info for no apparent benefit? Seems fishy. I don't think you understand the randomness of how the source game can be. Why did Robert Murray or Chris Cotillo get sources at age 15-16? There's no rhyme or reason behind it.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) They might be getting paid by a news outlet, but they know if they burn the bridge with the team, the team won't give them access to anything anymore. That is how they get player/manager/executive interviews. With about 200 days worth of a baseball season to fill, they need those pieces. The national guys have no such need. Media policies must be different then. Part of why professional sports have become so big is because of the media & their outlets. They are the gateway to the players/FO for fans. Can only speak for the NFL side of things, though. Trust me, I've pissed off some people at Halas Hall & was still able to have full access at camp.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) Eh. As long as you realize that Sox writers know that if they piss of the team, they lose their source at inside access, you know what is going on. The local writers are better for the day to day stuff, but because of the nature of the team, they are never going to be the ones to break a big story, especially if it is in the rumor stage. That is why breaking news and controversial stuff comes from out of town. It may be different than it is in football but most orgs don't really control the info that is getting to the writers. Or at least for the most part, outside of purposeful leaks. Merkin may be a bit different but guys like Hayes, etc are not getting paid by the Sox, they are getting paid by a news outlet. The better info the news outlet gets, the more attention they get. May be different in baseball but I can tell you from experience that most NFL guys have a "leak" within the org & it's a constant battle to get that info & not get shut down doing it.
  14. In all seriousness, sure seems like things are heating up. Hope to see something happen over the next few days.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) I like merkin. He came out with an article on Todd Frazier the guy a couple days before the trade. I pay attention to him some. Hayes is a boob. ...I like boobs, let's not insult them like that.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) iirc neither of them though Frazier was happening either Exactly, nothing against the Sox beat writers but they aren't exactly top notch, especially when it comes to the rumor mill.
  17. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) Merkin doesn't think the Sox go over 100MM for an OF. That lines up with Gordon more than Yo. I think we can banish Upton from the convo. FWIW Merkin & Hayes were both saying they didn't expect any of the big 3 a week or two ago.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) Max Wildstein ‏@MaxWildstein Source: #WhiteSox were having "deep" discussions with Yoenis Cespedes before Christmas. Don't know where talks are now. This kid/guy is a scout.com MLB writer with 9.5K followers, so it could be newsworthy. Max is a good dude & a friend of mine but I've never once been convinced that he has any real 1st hand sources... Take it FWIW.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) Mlbtr hasn't posted anything new regarding any players or teams in over 17 hours. Very slow Tuesday around the MLB. Speaking of: https://t.co/3bcm3FJ1qP
  20. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) Hope rosenthal is right. I think he is. Get er done Hahn! Could tomorrow be the day? It''ll be a Wednesday, ya know...
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:32 AM) Yeah what's your problem, man? We have 2 guys on this board and (Rock in the past) that have given good intel over time. It helps everyone on the board with transparency and should be appreciated. There's absolutely no reason to be a dick about it. Like I said yesterday... Don't believe them? Ignore it & move on. The rest of us enjoy the info (you included). I don't want people being pricks ruining it for the rest of us. It's not as easy as some think. Coming forward with info (right or wrong) is a pride thing & isn't just as easy as "hey I got info, I don't care if I'm right or wrong, so I'll just say it." Lots more that goes into it. I'm willing to bet if Gordon/Cespedes end up signing with the Sox, he'll praise them & kiss up for more info in the future.
  22. That tweet would line up with what Bucket & raBBit have said, though. Upton will get paid the most & due to age, he's probably going to be the most popular. Also some smoke that with the way the market is developing, he may take a 1 year "pillow deal". Personally, I'm not to keen on the idea of giving up the 29th overall pick for a 1 year guy. I really think Alex Gordon ends up on the Sox within the next week or two.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) I agree with everything. I think we'll either get Gordon or Upton however. I truly hope it's Upton.
