  1. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Whats nelson twitter @SSS_joshnelson
  2. Seems like that Nelson guy is just spitballing. He sees the Nightengale tweet & all of the sudden speculates that they could sign someone tonight. I wouldn't get my hopes up.
  3. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) We might get Ian Desmond for SS instead. Not with a pick attached...
  4. I also think Cespedes gets right around $20-21M per year over 4-6 years.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) @BNightengale The #Tigers appear to be sitting back waiting for Yoenis Cespedes, whose price may be dropping. I have a feeling that Gordon is coming to the Sox and Cespedes is going back to Detroit. What would you rather have: Gordon to CHI & Cespedes to DET or Cespedes to CHI & Gordon to KC?
  6. Does them take them out of the OF'er market or do they have $$$ to spend?
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) Gordon in particular was a late bloomer. He was to the point where he was almost considered a bust and then had a breakout year in 2011. I suspect he has several productive years left in him. That's what I think most teams are banking on that are interested in him. From what I've read, he doesn't have much of a market. Overall, he probably fits the need the best for the White Sox outside of his age, which should be a concern at 32.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 10:24 AM) It amazes me a 32 baseball player is now considered old. If Gordon signed with the White Sox, he would be over a year younger than Carlton Fisk when he signed with the White Sox, and he caught. I come from more of a football mind frame, so maybe that's why I have such concerns with his age. I just worry about giving him a 4-5 year deal, especially that back half.
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 10:18 AM) Hahn was saying before he was looking at more of defensive outfielder which gordon is. Just not sold on him with him being older of the 3. Plus with him having the groin injury last year that worries about further injuries How much would a guy like Parra help this team? I know he's not the power bat that everyone (including myself wants) but could he be a good option at 28, very good defense & a top of the order type guy?
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) This times a thousand and I tried to explain that but didn't word it well I guess. The "sources game" can suck man. Most don't understand how it all works, so when you're right, you're king but when you're wrong, you're an asshole. LOL. It's all part of the game I suppose but for people who just relay it as a courtesy to fans & not because they are getting paid to do it, it gets stressful & somewhat off-putting when people slam them or troll them. (Not saying that is the case here, just as a general statement).
  11. Biggest thing to remember with raBBit, Bucket, Rock, etc is that each FA/Trade situation is highly fluid and can change on a dime. Just because they get one piece of info that doesn't exactly line up with the end product, doesn't discredit them or make them "fake" or "incorrect". I've had it happen multiple times with Bears info.
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) National media was already linking Sox to navarro as soon as flowers was let go. He named Mez as an interesting option. I never once recall him saying "The Sox are in on him". It's tough sometimes to decipher opinion from actual info from sources but I can honestly say I never remember him saying they were in on Mez.
  13. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 10:05 AM) Hope someone from the system has become ML-ready by then and move Melky to DH. They've got some OF depth, so that could end up happening I suppose. From what I see out of this team right now, they have a two year window before they potentially lose 3 starters (Frazier, Lawrie, Melky), so I guess the time is now.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) So if they add Gordon, lineup looks something like: Eaton CF Gordon LF Abreu 1B/DH Frazier 3B Cabrera RF (for now) Lawrie 2B LaRoche (DH/1B, get him here more to improve defense) Platoon C Saladino SS That's not a bad lineup at all, IMO. Couple that with the pitching staff & they are in pretty good shape. Biggest worry I have is in 2017, what do they do at DH? Then again, I always jump too far ahead & that's not that topic at hand.
  15. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) Not trying to knock anything but been skeptical on rabbit. Said before Sox were in serious talks with reds on catcher then Sox got navarro. Also said that the Heyman thing with sox still heavily involved in talk with Reds for Frazier was cooled off then next day Sox trade for him. Nothing wrong with being skeptical, especially in the sources game but what I can tell you is that he's been pretty much right on with everything he's said. The Frazier trade happened out of nowhere. Not sure anyone really expected it & from what I've read, it came together very quickly.
  16. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) He has connections. He's a mod here and was saying they were in in Frazier before beat writers were talking about it. Not to mention he called Lawrie weeks before it happened.
  17. Talking with Hayes right now & he's just cherry picking. I have no idea why he seems to be the only Sox media member that is hell-bent on the Sox not landing an OF bat.
  18. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) I don't pay attention to him. He's not reporting anything with any true inside insight. He downplays moves every year and is super conservative. Did it last offseason. All I know is he has made it very obvious that he has no idea what is going on but is getting paid to act like he does. He's been wrong multiple times this offseason & if any of these reports come out to be true, he'll be wrong again on the OF'er front.
  19. Everything that I've read is saying KC isn't even close with Gordon. Seen some say they are all but out of the running. We'll see what happens. I think Sox have the inside track here.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) Didnt Dan just say a few weeks ago that the team might not add anyone after Lawrie? Them giving up Shark's draft pick wouldnt make his drum beating articles over them not doing that look good. Dan refuted the interest in Frazier after the Lawrie trade, then said he was overpriced & it wouldn't happen. Now he's saying they won't go after any of the big bats, especially the ones with a pick attached. Yet, multiple national writers have said the exact opposite. This stance he keeps taking is going to blow up in his face very soon.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) I get the feeling that the first team to promise 5 years is the team that gets Gordon. Better not be the Sox if someone goes 5 years at $20M AAV.
  22. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) I just read something that he wants $20 for at least 5 years. I'm leery of tying up at high salaries for any of these guys more than 3 or so years. I can't see him getting any more than 4 years, personally & I can't see him getting $20M AAV but I could be wrong.
  23. He also went on to say that IF prices drop on some of these guys, teams that have said they are "done" will be back in the market... Sounds like the Sox need to act fast somewhere.
  24. Joel Sherman reporting that the #WhiteSox talks with OF Alex Gordon are "very real" on MLB Tonight just now. Also said that as the market progresses, prices on these FAs will go down, which in turn will create more interest from all teams. FWIW, the first thing Joel said when he opened his mouth was the tidbit about Gordon & the Sox.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) Shuck didn't exactly light it up offensively. He was pretty bad. Like a stronger LH bat in that scenario. I'm also not sure why Avi is considered "unimprovable". His walk rate, by Sox standards, wasn't bad. He's had 1 full year. It is within the rules to pull him for defensive replacement as well. Was he good? No. Was he bad? No. He didn't hit an HR but had a .266 BA with a .340 OBP. Not bad for a guy that had just over 150 ABs. I think he's completely fine as the 4th OF.
