GM’s have little to no involvement in the minor league rule-5 draft. It takes place during the winter meetings and they have more important things. I would bet large sums of money Hahn hadn’t heard of Mercedes when they took him. Also, it was the minor league rule-5. They didn’t have to add him to the 40 man. This isn’t critique of Hahn just clarifying two points.

The numbers say he can’t hit fastballs either. He’s a mistake hitter at this point, which isn’t useless given the other skills he brings, but it would be disappointing to say the least.

He pitched a little in the past, and could hit the 90’s reportedly. His arm isn’t weak. I was just surprised it was relatively accurate given how quick he got rid of it.

Vaughn looked pretty good circling that ball and getting rid of it quick. Better throw than I expected.

I like the glass-half-full mindset, but if they hadn’t dumpster dove with Eaton in the first place the loss of Jimenez wouldn’t hurt so much. Doesn’t make much sense to reserve funds for when nobody worthwhile is available.

I’d like to see them trade for Gallo. It will cost something of value, but that can be recouped next off-season by dealing from a surplus once Eloy is presumably healthy. We’ve waited long enough, let’s go for it.

I know not the best team, or even among them, but that 2003 team should have done some damage. That team was crazy talented.

Eloy is an all-star calibre hitter. I agree with others he COULD be even better hitting the ball in the air more often - the caveat being there is no guarantee he couldn’t also become worse in doing so.
