This sounds silly, but did the Sox hold an official press conference for Yonder Alonso yet? If not, my thought is that they want to announce Alonso, Jay, and Machado at the same time (like they did with Melky, Samardzija, and Robertson a few years ago).
Probably wishful thinking, but Machado this offseason and one of Sale/Bumgarner/Cole next offseason would be amazing. They could even package some of their prospects for a young pitcher in a trade at some point. Lots of possibilities.
I trolled him on Twitter a couple years ago when he was on the Royals. He responded and then we've tweeted each other a couple times back and forth since then. It's pretty cool when players interact with fans.
If we're going all-in on the friends and family route to recruit Machado, Yasmani Grandal and Adam Jones make sense to varying degrees but it seems unlikely that the Sox will pursue either of them.
Couple questions for you guys:
1. If they sign Machado, where will Moncada most likely hit in the lineup?
2. If they sign Machado, what will the bench look like?
