If we're going all-in on the friends and family route to recruit Machado, Yasmani Grandal and Adam Jones make sense to varying degrees but it seems unlikely that the Sox will pursue either of them.
Couple questions for you guys:
1. If they sign Machado, where will Moncada most likely hit in the lineup?
2. If they sign Machado, what will the bench look like?
The motivation behind this signing isn't even about how Jay performs on the field. He's just another asset the Sox can use to help recruit Machado. That being said, he's better than Engel so it's a win/win for me.
I really think it's almost over and the end result will be good. This is the sort of move the Sox would make if they knew Machado would sign here if they did it. I'm feeling really confident right now.
I think it'd probably be closer to 80 million/year (~35 million for Machado and ~45 for Harper), which of course is a lot of money to commit to just 2 players. However, it's feasible if the Sox are willing to increase payroll significantly and also because the Sox will have several players making league minimum or close to it for the foreseeable future.
The idea of adding 2 superstar hitters in their primes to the middle of the lineup is just so appealing to me. But it's probably not going to happen and I'd be more than happy with just Machado.
This whole thing just reinforces why I don't like Barstool, but I was under the impression that they were trying to become a more credible outlet for MLB rumors. It seems like WSD does get good info from time to time, at least as far as the Sox go. I didn't think they would make up a blatantly false rumor just for some likes/retweets but I guess I was wrong.
