  1. Hypothetically, let's say either one of these guys are close to signing with another team. Do you think their agent would circle back to Hahn and see if he can beat that offer? I'm not really sure how the negotiation process works in regards to contracts of this magnitude.
  2. That 8/300 figure is just pulling numbers out of nowhere, I have no idea what their offer is. My point is that the Sox need to take whatever the Yankees are willing to do and beat it significantly.
  3. If the Yankees are offering 8 years, the Sox need to offer 10. If they're offering 300 million, the Sox need to offer 350. The Sox need to beat them in both aspects.
  4. If the Yankees go 8 years, the Sox need to go 10.
  5. To me, the apprehension in regards to signing Machado to play SS is more about having to shift Tim Anderson to some other position than anything else. Don't get me wrong, by no means should TA7 prevent the Sox from going after Machado, but Anderson improved significantly defensively towards the end of last year. Signing Machado would force the Sox to either move Anderson to 2B, which would displace Moncada, or CF where he has no experience...and the Sox would still have no answer at 3B.
  6. Am I the only one that doesn't really want Machado if he insists on playing shortstop?
  7. Marcus Stroman couldn't possibly know that Machado is going to the Yankees, right? Seems far fetched that a player on a totally different team would know that before everyone else.
  8. The scary thing is that Peavy is clearly a grown man and I'm like 99% sure English is his first language.
  9. They need to fix that god awful bullpen first and foremost. Harper or no Harper, they won't win anything with the bums they have right now.
  10. On a somewhat related note, how much do you guys think Machado will ultimately sign for? I'll say 350 million.
  11. My thoughts: If he was going to sign with the Yankees, I feel like the meeting would have been much longer to discuss the terms of the contract if nothing else.
  12. My first inclination was that a short meeting with the Yankees is a good thing for the Sox, so that's what I'm going with.
  13. Yeah, we're going to hear a ton of how Machado was "completely blown away" by the Yankees and Phillies over the next couple days. At this point I'm not even going to bother worrying about it, whatever happens happens.
  14. Does this have any impact on the Sox pursuit of Harper/Machado?
