  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Why can't the blue print for a trade look similar to the Sale deal? What did we get, 2 A's, a B, and a C? If we end up pulling the trigger on an A and 3 B's, I wouldn't be upset. Exactly. A - Torres, Rutherford B - Andujar C - Tate It's quite simple.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) That's considerably more than the Sox got for Sale in my opinion. Eh, maybe slightly more. But Q's value should be nearly identical to Sale. The Yankees probably wouldn't do that but I think a package like the one I proposed is fair for a player of Q's caliber.
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Rutherford headlined deals are insane in my opinion Look at what we got for Sale and Eaton and to think we'd cave on Quintana is nuts With all eyes on him he shut down the stacked USA lineup at the WBC and looked in midseason form Agreed. I have also seen deals headlined by Jorge Mateo which I think is crazy. Either the deal starts with Torres or Frazier AND Rutherford. If the Yankees aren't willing to do that, then it's their loss.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) More like soxtalk has been proposing trades for over a year with the best of the best prospects that getting a top 25 prospect and top 50 prospect are trades with "no ascertainable headliner" I don't know man, I've seen plenty of cringeworthy offers for Q as of late.
  5. I love Miller Park. I just don't know if it's worth going up there for an exhibition game.
  6. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) You can think you want this more until a couple of those elite guys bust or get injured then you might rethink that philosophy. Especially when out of the 20 "decent" prospects you might wind up with 8-9 really good to elite ML players. I dont think either way is a bad way or one way better than the other. I'm seeing so many people proposing Q trade packages with no ascertainable headliner. What's the point of trading one of the best assets in baseball for organizational depth? Give me 2 elite prospects at the very least if Q is being discussed. Maybe Hahn can settle for depth when he trades guys like Frazier and Melky, but he definitely can't settle on Q. He's in the drivers seat without a doubt.
  7. I see all these posts/tweets about wanting the Sox farm system to be balanced. I don't know about you guys, but I'd much rather have a top 5 farm system with 7-8 elite prospects than a top 5 farm system with 20 decent ones. I'd much rather have elite talent at the top than balance.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) Well technically the $68 million was ripped up. But have you seen how little the free agents who have signed 9 figure contracts have made their teams better and title contenders. Their choice in recent years was not to sign these guys and get called cheap, or sign these guys, be on the hook for 9 figures and get called dumb. Did anyone really think the Angels were stupid to sign Pujols when they signed him? They would have been better off having their fanbase call them cheap. If Machado or a different premier free agent was the last piece to make this team a title contender for the foreseeable future, why wouldn't the Sox sign him no matter the cost? Look at the Cubs with Lester. They paid a fortune for him and his contract will likely be an albatross later, but he helped them win now. I don't see why the Sox should operate any differently if the rebuild starts to show positive results at some point. Free agency is part of the game and the Sox need to use it to their advantage, especially from the offensive side.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) Take ARods deal and start multiplying. Machado is going to be making $35-40 million a year if not more for a long, long time. To think the White Sox will pay it is most likely a pipedream. And calling them cheap or not interesting in winning if they don't is ridiculous as well. I'm sure they would love to have him. Also keep in mind if many of the team's prospects pan out, they are going to eventually have to be paid as well. How else would you describe them considering they haven't given a free agent more than $68 million? And they clearly haven't been interested in winning as of late. They would've signed Cespedes and Desmond instead of the bargain bin free agents they did if that was the case.
  10. Torres, Rutherford, Andujar, and Tate. I think that's fair.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) This. I know we are rebuilding, and somehow that changes everything, but I don't see the White Sox outbidding the rest of MLB for a $250 million contract. The Sox will have literally no expensive contracts on the books after the 2018 season once Q/Shields/Robertson/Melky/Frazier/Jones are gone. Probably 75% of the team will be making league minimum or close to it. I don't see any way how they wouldn't be able to afford Machado. It's just a matter if Jerry will pay up to get a premier free agent for once.
  12. Donaldson will be pretty old by the time the Sox could sign him. He'd still be an upgrade, but signing him is a much riskier proposition than signing Machado, even though Donaldson will cost less.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 07:18 AM) Biggest contract given out is 6/ $68m...but yeah we'll sign Machado. Dude will likely get anywhere between 8-12 year deal with an opt-out after age 29 season. If the Sox were serious about winning and rewarding their fans for sitting through a rebuild, they'd sign Machado if things fall into place like they should.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) I think there is still plenty enough to get a deal done. If you clean out almost all of the rest of their top 10, I think you still win. Even without Torres and Frazier that still leaves position players like Mateo, Rutherford, Andujar, McKinney, Judge, and Garcia. I think every single one of those guys would be in our 3-5 top position players. That also doesn't touch their pitching depth. We could absolutely load up on quality and quantity. I doubt the Yankees would make a 5 for 1 or 6 for 1 trade for Q. Besides, I want a couple really good prospects instead of a bunch of decent ones.
  15. IF (and it's a big if) Kopech reaches his full potential, I think he'll be the best pitcher in baseball. His stuff is that good.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) I think if something like that is too light, Quintana is never being traded. Rutherford has never even played above rookie ball and is only 19 years old. There's no way I'd take someone as uncertain as him as the main piece in a Q deal, especially considering Q is as much of a sure thing as there is in all of baseball.
  17. I'm not sure what thread to put this in, but Derek Norris got released by the Nationals. I would take him over Geovany Soto in a heartbeat.
  18. I didn't realize May and Engel were so inexperienced at AAA, so I guess some at-bats there would do them well. I'd still like to see them in the Majors at some point in 2017 though. Leury is nothing but a placeholder as far as I'm concerned.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) Leury can be a fine bench piece. There's no reason to call up May and Engel to sit on the bench (unless you're implying they would start). Well yeah I'd want them to start. I'd dump Avi, let Rymer start in RF, and then put Engel/May with LF/CF and Melky at DH. The hope would be that one of those outfielders sticks.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) Neither are MLB-ready in my view. I think the smart move in a rebuild is to allow both of them to get solid in AAA first. Leury gains nothing from being in AAA anyway. Maybe not, but I don't think Leury is anything more than a AAAA player and I would be highly surprised if he was a long term piece in this rebuild. May and Engel probably won't become MLB regulars either but I'd rather give them a shot since they've never had one. Leury is what he is at this point.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 07:24 AM) All the players that are out of options makes this interesting. 1. T. Anderson SS 2. J. Abreu 1B 3. M.Cabrera LF 4. T. Frazier 3B 5. M. Davidson 3B 6. A. Garcia RF 7. T. Saladino 2B 8. O. Narvaez C 9. P. Bourjos CF Bench C G. Soto INF Y. Sanchez U L. Garcia OF R. Liriano Starters 1. J. Quintana 2. C. Rodon 3. J. Shields 4. M. Gonzalez 5. D. Holland Bullpen D. Robertson N. Jones J. Petricka Z. Putnam D. Jennings D. Covey M. Ynoa I think Davidson, Sanchez, L. Garcia, and M. Ynoa are roster locks because they are all out of options. Covey stays as a rule 5 guy. I've seen speculation from some (including Scott Merkin) about Jacob May being the CF but then Bourjos would be gone entirely in my opinion. No 2nd Lefty in the pen (not that it matters). I put Rymer on the roster because he's out of options but Iw couldn't be stunned to see him gone and Asche making it with the LHB. This looks right to me. I'd much rather see May or Engel make the team over Leury but I doubt that will happen, at least initially.
  22. I'm so excited for MLB The Show 2017.
  23. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Well he currently throws from the stretch, which is not all that common for a starting pitcher I'm not sure why they do not stretch him out and give him a chance to start while we are rebuilding for the next few seasons? If that does not work out he can always relieve More than likely, Sox scouts feel much better about getting him to the majors in relief rather than screwing around trying to get him to be a starter. He was a reliever in college, so they might not want to mess with a good thing? That's what I would assume. It's also possible that Burdi and his agent want to get his MLB service time started ASAP and being a reliever is the fastest way to do that.
