  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) That's just it though. Not every team wants to deal away that much. This is likely the best offer they received. All we heard was reluctance to part with guys from the Yankees and Braves side (doubt either interest was sincere enough). Dodgers, Brewers and Padres were never connected. Nationals are moot since we received 2 of them the next day. That leaves only Red Sox. Red Sox don't have to pay 3 top 50 guys if the best offer for Sale (their's) only includes 2. I guess. The Red Sox must have not been compelled to put a third blue chip guy on the table if they knew their offer was already the best. It's just annoying. I like Basabe's potential but Diaz doesn't do much for me. He just seems like another bullpen arm. Even a guy like Travis or Dalbec in place of him would've made the deal much better.
  2. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) There are 30 MLB teams, how many have 3 top 50 prospects? Uh...the Red Sox did before the trade. The Nationals before the Eaton deal as well, maybe the Dodgers, Brewers, Padres, Braves, and Yankees too. My point isn't that Hahn got robbed in this trade. Moncada and Kopech at the front end were great gets. I'm simply saying he probably could've gotten one more impact piece had he been a little more persistent in the negotiations.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 09:09 AM) Haven't read a post of this thread so this may be redundant but: C: Narvaez/Smith 1B: Abreu 2B: Saladino/Sanchez 3B: Frazier SS: Anderson LF: Cabrera CF: Tilson/L. Garcia RF: A. Garcia DH: Davidson/Hayes (RH/LH platoon, because I had 24 players and needed another) SP: Quintana, Rodon, Shields, Gonzalez, Holland RP: Robertson, Jones, Jennings, Ynoa, Putnam, Petricka, Burdi You think Burdi will make the team out of Spring Training? That would be interesting to say the least.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 09:17 AM) I can't tell if this board underrates how valuable a top 5 and top 20 prospect is to a team, or if its the underrating of prospects in the 50-150 range, where because of the anchoring of the top talent suddenly seem like "throw-ins" I believe Sale is worth 3 top 50 prospects. I feel like the Sox might have been able to pry Devers away had the Price injury happened earlier but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
  5. Moncada/Kopech/Devers/Diaz = Slam Dunk Moncada/Kopech/Basabe/any of Dalbec, Swihart, Travis/Diaz = Very Nice Moncada/Kopech/Basabe/Diaz = Decent That's how I see it. I agree with Jose Abreu above. They didn't do terrible but they could've done better.
  6. Unfortunately there aren't too many Jewish ballplayers these days so they had to be lenient in order to put together a team. I'm rooting for them for sure. #JewCrew
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 07:31 AM) Honestly, I think there is room for all three. Right now, it seems like our bench will likely be Sanchez, Bourjos, L. Garcia, & Davidson. I just don't see who could beat out these guys. Liriano & Asche are the only real threats IMO and I think they'd need to have huge spring trainings to overtake them. Hayes is the only other possibility, but he can start 2017 in AAA, so why not give Davidson an extended look in the majors being discarding him. I'd love to see Liriano win a spot over any of those guys. He was a top 100 prospect not too long ago and is still quite young. I think he has more potential than the rest of the options.
  8. If Leury could hit he would definitely make the team in my eyes. As of now, I'm not sure. His speed/versatility is nice but he can't hit a lick.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) Davidson is a roster lock. I don't think that's true at all. He might have a decent shot of making the team but I don't think he's a lock by any means.
  10. Shields' job in 2017 is to get f***ing shelled every start and allow the young pitchers to develop in the minors. I don't care if the Sox make him start every other game, he's crucial in the tanking effort.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) Give me Moncada over Robles anyday. To further elaborate on this...yes, I prefer Moncada to Robles, but I still think the Sox could've gotten more for Sale. I think they knocked the Eaton trade out of the park, but I was hoping for another player from Boston. Devers was probably a pipe dream but I don't know why the Sox couldn't get at least one of Travis/Swihart/Dalbec in addition to the 4 players they received.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) Daryl Van Schouwen‏Verified account @CST_soxvan 1h1 hour ago Sox pitching coach on Shields: ‘This year, watch him do better’ http://bit.ly/2lxK9ME via @suntimes Could he really do any worse?
  13. Hayes is a bit older than I'd like but he's having a nice spring.
  14. Rodon might be traded down the line, but for now, I think he's an essential part of the team. Keep in mind that he was rushed to the big leagues without a doubt. In hindsight, he probably should've spent all of 2015 in the minors. Just because he isn't improving at a Sale-like pace doesn't mean he won't be good. He also suffered from a terrible defense and pitch framing last year. It takes time for some of these guys to find their stride and hopefully 2017 is the year he takes a big step forward. If we're having this discussion at this time next year, then I'll be slightly worried. Right now, I'm not.
  15. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) Help me understand something: Rodon's been pretty mediocre so far in his career; where some see promise in his Sept/Oct results last year, I see a "garbage time hero." He's been a bit of a China Doll so far in his career, with injuries in every season sidelining him, and now whatever this latest issue may be... He's represented by Greed Incarnate, who will never ever agree to a contract extension here. Why is Rodon considered to be a part of this team's core again? Thanks in advance. You're kidding...right?
  16. Nice to see Moncada get a hit.
  17. The arm issues he supposedly had last year that hadn't been mentioned until today are definitely concerning. Hoping for the best...
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) Mike, I like you and appreciate your posting, but you seriously need to stop with your petty comments towards admins when anyone disagrees with you. If you want to hold Admins/Mods to a higher standard, please hold yourself to it. I respect the mods/admins to the fullest. I'm just saying that if any random Joe Schmo member brought up politics in a Sox thread, they would've been punished for it. That's all.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) the overreaction was unnecessary, the comment was mild at best Careful, your bias is showing.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) Amused as I am that SS2K5 is being called out for being a liberal riot-starter, the politics need to end now, or take it to the Buster. Any further political posts in this thread will be deleted. It was absolutely unnecessary and I am shocked that an admin of all people would derail a thread like that.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 08:06 PM) Hey Donald Trump could become a great President too, but I am not holding my breath for that moment either. I'm not going to argue with you if you resort to talking politics to prove your case. That's completely irrelevant to the discussion that we're having.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) It is about being realistic based on the history of the franchise, and not living in a fantasy world. How is the idea of the Sox signing Robert a fantasy? Reputable sources have mentioned it as a possibility. It's not like we're grasping for this rumor out of thin air. Just because signing a guy like him isn't something the Sox would've done in the past doesn't mean they can't change their ways.
