I drive a 2000 Acura Integra with 175,000+ miles on it. Those cars last forever. It's definitely a good first car for me.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) I agree with you. And it's nutty that people think that's not enough. None of those guys are established. It's hard to trade the second best left handed pitcher on the planet who's on an incredibly cost effective deal and a serviceable outfielder for unknowns.
-
Hendricks has been a revelation but Arrieta and Lester ain't getting any younger or cheaper. They'll need more pitching.

I liked Jerry. He wasn't very good, but still. Wish him the best in his future endeavors.

QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 11:52 AM) Sale would look reeeeeaaaaalllll good in a Cubbie uniform. Perfect for a back-to-back championship run after they win the whole thing this year!! Ok...then they'd have to give up Schwarber, Baez, Contreras, Almora, and Jimenez just to get the Sox interested.

I'm thinking about last night. The Giants obviously don't have a closer, so why didn't they go to Samardzija in the 9th? Yes, I know he got lit up in Game 2, but his stuff is most likely much better in 1 inning at a time scenarios and he wasn't going to pitch in Game 5 either. All I know is that a revolving door of s***ty relievers isn't going to get it done against the Cubs. I bet the Giants wish they had traded for a closer.
-
The Cubs definitely aren't as good as people thought they would be. I assumed they'd throttle the Giants, and that didn't happen. I think they are definitely vulnerable if they have to go up against LA or Toronto.

I really don't understand the JBJ love. Give me Benintendi instead.

Jordan Howard = Matt Forte 2.0 -
Deadpool has to be a closet Cubs fan. I can't think of any other reason why he'd be such a pretentious douche to everyone if he wasn't a Cubs fan.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 09:26 PM) The Sox have the top pick in the 2017 MLB Draft after finishing the season with a record of 78-84. The last ten players picked with the 12th overall pick: 2016: Jason Groome 2015: Josh Naylor 2014: Kodi Medeiros 2013: DJ Peterson 2012: Gavin Cecchini 2011: Taylor Jungmann 2010: Yasmani Grandal 2009: Aaron Crow 2008: Jemile Weeks 2007: Matt Dominguez This list doesn't look too good, but you never know. Sale was picked 13th after all. Hopefully the Sox target a bat with their first pick if at all possible.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) Why would people be pissed off that you are wearing a Sox shirt? Uh...because everyone else around here are Cubs fans are wearing Cubs stuff. I'm like one of 3 or 4 Sox fans that I know of in my school. I don't really care. I have and always will wear Sox stuff.

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) Go cubs go is back on the radio non stop. Please make it stop. They've played it during every passing period in my school today. It's so annoying. I purposely wore a Sox shirt today to piss people off.

Sorry for your loss. That is an absolutely beautiful dog.

Can the mods open that gigantic Cespedes thread again? I want to see how many more posts we can add to it, lol.

Conor Gillaspie hits game winning homerun

I'd rather have Moore start Game 2 and have Guppy ready in the bullpen. -
Vomit-inducing: LaRoches will throw out first pitch
ChiSoxFanMike replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When I originally read the title, I thought it meant that they were throwing out the first pitch at the Sox home opener next year. Now THAT would have been entertaining. -
QUOTE (zisk @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) reason to wait until june for overhaul. NICK CASTELLANO I think most agree that 2016 draft was best SOX draft in forever. if N.C. has a 2017 draft nearly as strong , the farm system may not need a major influent in talent . with spencer adams and erik hanson along with fulmer and burdi the sox could trade Q or Sale for hitting and contend very quickly. Nick Castellanos? He's on the Tigers. Do you mean Nick Hostelter or however it's spelled who's one of the minor league scouts?

QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 10:41 AM) I guess one of my biggest questions for planning for the future is how they plan to implement Collins. Realistically, I'm pretty confident he will be on the major league team no later than 2018, so will he be taking over at C or DH? Both are areas of weakness, so replacements are needed, but it's much easier to have a plan on attack for this offseason if you can envision where the team plans to use him. The Sox can go 1 of 3 ways: Go For It -See if Shields bounces back in spring training next year, if not, DFA him. No competitive team can trot him out there every 5th day and hope to play in October. -Sign Jason Castro to a 2 yr contract. Excellent defensive metrics again this season, great framing statistics, poor to mediocre offense which could be offset by the addition of a big bat. -Sign one of Encarnacion or Cespedes. You need another big bat in the middle, Encarnacion is the better bat, but he's older and doesnt provide any defensive value. Plus, if the Sox see Collins as DH, it would make more sense to go Cespedes and move Melky to DH, so you can slide Collins in to replace him after he leaves. For the sake of this exercise, I will say they sign Cespedes. -I think Carlos Gomez gets more offers than expected, so I think it would be beneficial to look at a guy like Rasmus for CF. The offensive numbers weren't really there this season, but he is a plus defender in the OF and with Eaton and Cespedes maning the other 2 positions, the OF defense would be massively upgraded. If he doesn't work out, you can always try with Tilson while Engel gets more seasoning in AAA. -Start Burdi in AAA and bring him up in June or July to provide a shot in the arm to the pen SS Anderson RF Eaton 1B Abreu LF Cespedes DH Cabrera 3B Frazier CF Rasmus C Castro 2B Lawrie/Saladino BE Lawrie/Saladino BE Narvaez BE Tilson BE Davidson? SP Sale SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Gonzalez SP Fulmer/Shields CL Robertson SU Jones SU Petricka RP Jennings RP Putnam RP Fulmer/Shields RP Ynoa? RP ? Buy and Sell This is the route I ultimately think the franchise decides to go. I think Chris Sale's days with the White Sox are numbered and I think they will ultimately do pretty well in a trade for him. I think the team tries to capitalize off that one trade and compete while also planning for the future. -Trade Chris Sale to the Red Sox for Andrew Benintendi, Rafael Devers, Michael Kopech, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Blake Swihart. In this trade, the Sox get someone they covet for some reason in Swihart, they get a stud CF, the eventual replacement for Frazier, a young power arm, and a rotation piece for the present. Fills needs but also builds for the future. -Sign Edwin Encarnacion to offset the loss in pitching. I'd personally go somewhere around 4 yr, $92 million. -Sign Boone Logan as your second lefty in the pen. -Bring up Burdi and really make the bullpen a strength. Shorten the game for the starters and make the bullpen lock down. RF Eaton SS Benintendi 1B Abreu DH Encarnacion LF Cabera 3B Frazier C Swihart 2B Lawrie/Saladino SS Anderson BE Lawrie/Saladino BE Narvaez BE Tilson BE Davidson? SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Gonzalez SP Rodriguez SP Fulmer/Shields CL Robertson SU Jones SU Burdi RP Jennings RP Logan RP Putnam RP Petricka Rebuild This is the hardest to predict. If they start a massive rebuild, I look for Quintana to go to the Dodgers and Sale to go to the Red Sox. I think Frazier, Melky, and Robertson go at the deadline. Lawrie probably goes for a flier piece in the offseason. Great post. You really hit all the scenarios they could go to. Any time Boone Logan gets mentioned, I give a thumbs up. I used to love that guy.

Realistically, who else is gone besides Robin and Steverson if they do clean house?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) He's not a coach. I doubt he's going anywere. I am sure the bullpen guys, Thigpen and the man Mark Salas, will hang around too. I didn't know if the trainer was considered to be part of the coaching staff or not. My bad.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) I would think if they are returning everyone, it would be in there. Wording like that tells me other heads may be rolling. Hopefully Steverson is the next to be canned. What he has done to warrant being in the fold for this long baffles me.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) Boston and LA aren't giving up that much for Sale and Quintana. If I'm a playoff team, I'd be concern with Sale since he has inevitably faded in the second half each of the past 4 years, and that's without throwing a single pitch in the playoffs. Urias has a chance to be something special, no reason to think he couldn't throw 160 innings next year. He's definitely MLB ready, so he's worth more than Quintana alone. There's only realistically 3-4 guys Dodgers would trade him for, and none of which are pitchers. Urias hasn't proven much of anything at the MLB level. He is certainly not worth more than an established, young ace with team control in Quintana.
