Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
ChiSoxFanMike replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) I got you. I don't think hanging onto Quintana is the worst thing in the world. He can always be traded later is my point. Very true. He's controlled for so long that I don't think his value will be that much lower at this time next year than it is now (barring a sudden decline in performance or an injury). -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) You still aren't understanding this. Trading both would be ideal. If you get a monster package for Sale and a monster package for Q then yes it makes sense. I think you are more likely to get the huge package for Sale though. They shouldn't trade Sale for a ton and then deal Q for less just because Sale is already gone. That doesn't make any sense. That's what I'm trying to say. Obviously you don't trade Q for trash just to get rid of him because Sale is out the door, but I think Q should be aggressively shopped if Sale is dealt. Obviously they shouldn't move him if they don't get a good enough offer, but trading him is an idea I think they should consider if they do in fact move Sale. We'll see. It will be an interesting offseason for sure. There are so many different routes the Sox can take, hopefully they pick the right one. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) The point is that if you don't get a s***load for Quintana there is no reason to trade him. He's locked up for the next four years and it isn't out of the question that they won't get appropriate value for him. Trading Sale makes much more sense in my opinion. The same goes for Adam Eaton. He's a 27 year old 5 WAR OF that's locked up for 5 more seasons. There's no reason to trade him unless you get blown away. The same thought process applies to Sale, IMO. If either of Sale or Q are dealt this offseason, the team won't be good for several years. Why let a legit ace in Q rot on a 65 win team for years if Sale is traded? Trade both or trade neither. -

What's the point in moving Sale if you don't move Quintana? He's only signed for one additional year. -
Ron's posts are a little extreme, but I don't necessarily disagree with him. He was a ghost offensively when the Sox were still in the hunt. He's killing it now, but it's much easier to pad stats when the games don't mean anything and there's much less pressure. Abreu isn't as bad as Ron makes him out to be, but it's not like he was some stud the first 3-4 months of the season either.

Sale has faced the Royals and Tigers so many times this year lol

James Shields and the 2017 Starting Staff
ChiSoxFanMike replied to Ducksnort's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Shields is toast, but maybe giving him an extra month to rest will rejuvenate his arm a bit. At least that's what I'm hoping for. -
QUOTE (Coach @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) I am going to throw this out there to see what everyone thinks. Avi Garcia for Tommy La Stella? And maybe the Sox can throw cash to the Cubs just to get rid of Garcia? Why would the Cubs want anything to do with Garcia? They already have his clone, Jorge Soler, who happens to be slightly better anyway.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) Would you be in favor of forfeiting a draft pick in the 11-15 range in order to sign Dexter Fowler? I would not. Which is why they should go after Reddick instead.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) You're same person that said his stuff was down due to workload last three starts His stuff wasn't too good in the beginning of the game, but it got much, much better.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) Have him go around 100 pitches a game and not put unnecessary stress on the biggest asset in your franchise He was cruising virtually the entire game. Had he been struggling, it'd be different, but I have no problem with his pitch count today.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Sale has nothing on these pitches today. Wonder how tired his arm is, as his velocity is around 91 today That's generally what happens when he throws 110+ pitches in 3 starts in a row.
-
Throwing nothing but fastballs isn't going to work against this lineup.
-
Am I crazy, or has he been killing it since he saw his son in Miami? Maybe there's no correlation, but he was ice cold before and has been raking ever since.
-
Q is out of the Cy Young race for sure now. We have to all pull for Sale.

Comparing the Sox to the Cubs in terms of rebuilding efforts is stupid. They have nothing in common besides the city they're from. 2 totally different circumstances. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) And what, ride off into the sunset of mediocrity until we lose Sale in a few years? Holding onto Sale & Quintana is pointless if you're never going to be able to build a winner around them. Obviously you don't give them away, but their value will never be higher than this offseason and if this magical haul some posters are expecting isn't there, then maybe you need to reset your expectations. There will be enough bidders this offseason to get fair market value for them, whatever that may be. I've said this so many times, but the absolute worst thing this franchise can do is hold onto these guys and end up getting nothing in return and not winning s***. There needs to be a sense of urgency this offseason to either to buy talent around them or to aggressively sell them. Waiting to be overwhelmed is the worst approach for a team in dire need of a clear direction. 100% agreed, but knowing the Sox, they'll wait and wait and nothing will happen. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 07:02 AM) The double play duo of Russell and Baez is legit. Their fans say they're the best double play duo ever, even better than Alomar and Vizquel. It's quite comical, actually.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) CY Young Race Corey Kluber: 175.2 IP, 3.07 ERA, 3.11 FIP, WHIP 1.05, SIERA 3.53, 4.5 fWAR Jose Quintana: 172.1 IP, 2.77 ERA, 3.34 FIP, WHIP 1.10, SIERA 3.95, 4.4 fWAR Chris Sale: 177.2 IP 3.14 ERA, 3.35 FIP, WHIP 1.00, SIERA 3.51, 4.4 fWAR David Price: 183.2 IP, 3.97 ERA, 3.46 FIP, WHIP 1.23, SIERA 3.55, 3.9 fWAR Masahiro Tanaka: 173 IP, 3.12 ERA, 3.26 FIP, WHIP 1.06, SIERA 3.69, 4.5 fWAR Kluber with the slight lead I think as of now but a wide open AL Cy Young race. There is no way in hell that David Price should even be considered for the award. He's had an awful year.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) I like what I have seen from Rodon. He is fun to watch when he is on his A game. I really enjoy Quintana. Next year I see a rotation of Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Fulmer and either Gonzalez or Shields. I really kind of think Big Game James gets traded but then again you would hate to see us give up too soon like we did with Shark. Difference is Shields is older. Who exactly is going to trade for Shields?

YES! YES!! YES!!!
