QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 4, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) IDK, worked for Gio in the past. I'm just trying to think of a player the Dodgers might be willing to part with that the Sox could get in return with Crawford, not that I want Crawford. In the end, it just doesn't sound like the Dodgers and Sox match up for any kind of trade. Maybe if the Sox were willing to put Robertson on the trade table but I doubt the SOX do that. Trading DRob would make no sense considering the position that the Sox are in. If the Sox intend to compete, DRob is a quality closer that is needed during a pennant chase. If they traded him, who would close? Jones? I have very little confidence in his abilites as a closer.
-
Here's an outside the box idea: Carl Crawford + $30 million for Daniel Webb. The Sox would essentially get Crawford on a 2 year/$12 million deal, which isn't too bad. Then they could use the extra money towards a pitcher.
-
If Puig requires the Sox to give up Quintana, I hope Hahn is smart enough to hang up the phone right then and there.
-
I don't mean to sound like a tool, but is there any legit proof that this guy is really 16?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 4, 2016 -> 08:19 AM) When I was reading through the Eithier thread. I started thinking how a blockbuster trade between the Dodgers and White Sox might work and it centered around Q but thinking of it made my brain hurt. I thought of reasonable Dodger targets (meaning no Seager). Pederson. Puig, Montas, Thompson any of their starters not named Kershaw. They have depth but not a lot of quality and a few oft injured guys . I figured it could be done but I don't get paid to figure this s*** out, Hahn does ,so let his brain hurt. Quintana for Pederson, Urias and Montas .Is that a big enough "small army" for Q ? Or we csan take Eithier instead but then we get another prospect. The Dodgers would never do that deal.

Soxtalk Legends Dynasty League
ChiSoxFanMike replied to Condor13's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
I'm really excited for this league! Is anyone else interested? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) If the Sox signed Fowler, then maybe Shuck doesn't make the final roster, though I doubt it. Sands is on the outside looking in for an injury or something big happening. Agreed. Unless Sands absolutely RAKES in Spring Training, I'd have to guess that he's AAA fodder for now. Fowler is just really appealing to me because he has a very good OBP and putting him behind Eaton and in front of Abreu could do wonders for the lineup as a whole.
-
Even if the Sox signed Fowler, the outfield would be overcrowded. Obviously him, Melky, and Eaton are guaranteed spots, but beyond that, you have Shuck, Avi, and Sands all fighting for the 4th outfielder role. Personally, I'd like the Sox to sign Fowler. Then Fowler, Melky, Eaton, and Shuck would be the outfielders on the big league team and Avi and Sands would be in Charlotte to start the year.
-
Assuming Ethier is acquired and Avi stays, what would the outfield situation look like on Opening Day? Eaton, Ethier, Melky, Garcia, Shuck, and Sands would all be in the mix for a spot. They would never have all 6 of them on the roster at the same time. It'll only be 4 of them most likely and I don't know who would be left out. Sands and Shuck probably, but I don't know. What a fustercluck.

I saw an interesting comment on MLBTradeRumors. It said something along the lines of Danks and Putnam for Ethier and $10 million...then that $10 million could be used for Latos. It probably isn't realistic, but I'd be ok if that sequence of moves happened.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) John Danks + Chris Beck for Andre Ethier + $3.75M in 2016, $1.75M in 2017 and $2.5M in 2018. Then go convince Mark Buehrle to pitch one more year. Why would the Dodgers want Danks? They already have enough lefty pitchers as it is.

MLB looking at strategy of deliberate tanking
ChiSoxFanMike replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) Brewers Reds Padres (sort of) Phillies Braves Rockies Interestingly, there's an article out today about the Braves being one of the favorites for Lazarito, fwiw. Why can't the Sox be in the NL?!?!? Ugh. -
I can't provide any help to you, but I hope that your dog gets better soon!
-
LaRoche and Danish for Ethier with the Sox taking on his entire salary. Do you guys think that would get a deal done?
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 11:35 AM) Here's why: Ethier put up a 2.9 fWAR and had a wRC+ of 137 last year. He was really good vs RHP. Vs RHP: .385 wOBA, 150 wRC+, high .336 BABIP, with a .900 OPS. Umm...even with those numbers, would you be comfortable paying $36 million over 2 years to a 33 year old who's essentially a platoon player at this point? I'm desperate, but not that desperate.

Carlos Quentin unretired, signs w/ Twins
ChiSoxFanMike replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He could've hit 40 homers in '08 if he hadn't broken his wrist acting like an idiot. It's a shame that injuries derailed his career so much. -
I STILL don't understand why everyone is so fascinated by Ethier. Yeah, he used to be good, but he's old and expensive now. Unless the Sox could package LaRoche and a REALLY low level prospect, I want nothing to do with him.

2016 Fantasy Baseball Official Thread
ChiSoxFanMike replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in The Diamond Club
So I ended up trading Eaton for Hunter Pence and a draft pick, as well as trading Yunel Escobar for a draft pick. My team as it stands now: C - Buster Posey 1B - Edwin Encarnacion and Greg Bird 2B - Dustin Pedroia SS - Addison Russell 3B - Kyle Seager and Stephen Piscotty OF - Matt Kemp, Hunter Pence, Christian Yelich, and Ender Inciarte SP - Chris Sale, David Price, Madison Bumgarner, Cole Hamels, Jose Quintana, Wei-Yin Chen, Daniel Norris, and Brandon Finnegan RP - Jonathan Papelbon, Huston Street, A.J. Ramos, and Glen Perkins I have a ton of draft picks to work with, and hopefully I can draft a stud minor league outfielder and second baseman. -
Soxtalk Fantasy Baseball Keeper

I'd possibly be interested in taking over a team. Is the league through ESPN? -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) Angels still make sense. Do you think they'd be willing to give up the draft pick/possibly go over the luxury tax?
-
I just can't see Fowler going back to the Cubs unless they move Soler. I really don't see any other fit for him besides the Sox.
-
I feel like people are SEVERELY overrating the value of the compensation pick in this situation. Yeah, the Sox need to build their system, but they also need to win NOW while the core is cheap and young. For every Trout that gets picked 25th or so overall, there's also 25 Aaron Poreda's who flame out and never amount to anything significant. The bottom line in my opinion is that the Sox need to win now, and unless the guy that they plan on picking with the compensation pick is a lock (or as close to a lock that a draft pick can be) to contributing soon, I don't mind giving up the pick for the sure thing in Fowler who can help the team out significantly in the present.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 06:31 PM) Segura seems like the type of player who is well regarded in fantasy baseball circles but isn't really that good of a baseball player. Nah, he actually sucks in fantasy. He was on my team last year and he did nothing for me the entire time I had him. Luckily I was able to replace him lol.
-
Obviously he'd choose the Cubs over the Sox if he was offered the same deal by both teams, but I have to think that the Sox are the favorites as it stands right now unless the Cubs can trade Soler.
