  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Well, that's where we disagree. For the potential price, the minor improvement likely won't be worth it. Time to photoshop Fowler's face on the picture in your signature.
  2. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) What world do you live in where baseball teams have a top 3 starter just waiting in the wings in case of injury? Our rotation is deeper than most and can handle an injury better than most in my opinion. That's the luxury of having 1 of the best top 3's in baseball. If 1 goes down we still have 2 other studs and the AAA fill in just needs to pich like a #5. Danks and EJ as our #4 and #5 pitchers could certainly be worse and should be the least of our concerns. If we sign Latos he's going straight to the rotation along with Danks as the 4th and 5th starter. That means you just paid probably 8x the salary to a guy who A) is no guarantee to even be better than EJ and B) hasn't thrown 120 innings since 2013. Just a silly thing to do at the expense of a very cheap young pitcher. Maybe Latos isn't the answer, but all I know is that the Sox are screwed if any of the big 3 get hurt.
  3. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) So what, put him in the bullpen if EJ or Danks don't blow it in spring training? I get wanting insurance, but Latos would be an expensive insurance policy that is far from reliable himself. Is Beck/Turner/Purke/Carroll/Possibly Fulmer worse than most teams have past their starting 5? Do you honestly believe that any of the guys you listed can fill in if one of the better starters (Sale, Q, or Rodon) gets hurt? Fulmer is the only one out of that list that has any potential and he likely won't be called up until September or 2017.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) In 2016, I'd much rather have Danks than Buehrle. Why? Danks freaking sucks.
  5. If it's Petricka for Jennings straight up, I'd be happy with that. Jennings isn't that good but neither is Petricka for that matter.
  6. Hahn better be wearing a bulletproof vest at SoxFest. I think that it is going to be REALLY tense there. Even with Frazier and Lawrie, most Sox fans want more, including myself.
  7. I really hope his number gets retired at some point. He is one of the best pitchers to ever put on a Sox uniform IMO.
  8. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 06:31 PM) What is Latos going to do for us? You going to give him EJ's rotation spot? Insurance. Yes, I know he'd be an expensive insurance policy, but I for one am not confident in either Danks or EJ, especially if they want to contend. Another veteran arm can't hurt.
  9. The Sox couldn't beat that offer? Seriously? What the hell is Hahn doing? No, Fathom, I'm not melting down. I'm just genuinely baffled as to why Hahn has done absolutely NOTHING to fix the OF problem the Sox have.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) They are already moaning about these on WSI. Sorry for the noob question, but what is the difference between WSI and SoxTalk?
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) Brian McTaggart ‏@brianmctaggart 7m7 minutes ago Astros rotation options: Keuchel (20-8, 2.48) McHugh (19-7, 3.89) McCullers (6-7, 3.22) Fister Fiers (7-10, 3.69) Feldman (5-5, 3.90) That's pretty solid I'd say Imagine if they would have drafted Rodon instead of Brady Aiken? Wow.
  12. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) I'm not sure whether I'd rather have them right now as the RF or Avi... Well played. I loved Dye.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) The Astros can have Fister and his 86mph fasball. No thank you to Fister. Why was his velocity so bad last year? Was he injured or something? If he has arm problems that I don't know about, then I'm happy that the Sox passed up on him.
  14. I would've liked to have seen him come to the Sox, especially on a 1 year deal. Oh well.
  15. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) Jackson is another name I'm not against although he provides the least offensive upgrade of the three. Jackson does have three things going for him though 1) cheapest salary of the three 2) best defense of the three 3) won't cost prospects or a comp pick to sign. I would be fine with any of those three but as of right now, my order of preference would be Fowler, Ethier, Jackson. I will admit this, my mind can change directions like the wind so that order is subject to change at any given time. I can see good points for all three and that's why I kind of bounce back and forth on those three and even Desmond. Glad I'm not Rick Hahn, lol. I agree with this. I think the best options for the Sox are either Fowler + Latos, Desmond + Jackson, or Jackson + Latos. At this point, I think I'd be ok with any of those 3 scenarios.
  16. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Doug Padilla is moving back to LA to cover the Dodgers. Looks like ESPNChicago is hurting, think they are only going to do general Sox updates, not have anyone on the actual Sox beat. I didn't like Padilla anyway. He's like Merkin honestly...just a bunch of lip service that isn't meaningful at all.
  17. Sale is a LOCK to leave when his contract is over. The Sox will never pay him what he'll be worth. I'm just enjoying him now, because I know he'll be gone in a few years.
  18. If Harper is projected to get 14/407, what do you guys think that Trout will get? 16/500?
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) BLOW IT UP. 5-0 losses are UNACCEPTABLE. Package Kane and Panarin for Carlos Gonzalez. I love you.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) You kind of make my point by bringing Alexei into the discussion. Alexei's RngR and UZR are considerably worse than Desmond's so less errors are going to happen when a player cannot get to as many balls in play. Desmond had 9 throwing errors last season and Alexei had 10. I think Desmond's capability of getting to more balls in play than Alexei led to some additional errors made by Desmond, at least to some extent. I'm not saying Desmond is a good SS but I'm not saying he isn't bad either. His defensive numbers are just plain weird to me. I'm definitely up for the idea of Ethier since upgrading the OF is a bigger necessity than SS. Jay Bruce on the other hand comes with the same question marks as Desmond so I can't see how someone would be against Desmond and yet be fine with Bruce. Bruce took a few steps back last year defensively, much like Desmond. I want absolutely nothing to do with Ethier. old + expensive = bad
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) Projected numbers: Sale: 2.99 ERA Quintana: 3.73 ERA Rodon: 3.81 ERA Johnson: 4.70 ERA Danks: 4.88 ERA Beck: 5.38 ERA Carroll: 5.35 ERA Turner: 5.98 ERA Frazier: .255/.318/.449 Eaton: .277/.352/.400 Abreu: .285/.352/.505 Lawrie: .255/.310/.406 Saladino: .232/.290/.347 Navarro: .259/.314/.385 Avila: .203/.321/.336 Melky: .281/.325/.403 LaRoche: .226/.317/.401 Garcia: .265/.311/.394 Anderson: .257/.283/.369 Those ERA projections for Quintana and Rodon are laughable.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 13s13 seconds ago Jason Benetti and Steve Stone will work all 10 spring training TV games for #whitesox. NOOOOO!!!!!! Where's Hawk going to be?
  23. Would you guys rather: - Give up prospects for Dickerson - Give up the draft pick and $$$ for Fowler For me, it's a hard question that I don't know the answer to.
  24. Trade Erik Johnson for Dickerson and sign Latos. Problem solved.
  25. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 08:03 AM) I'd take our rotation over the Cubs' any day... This, especially if Fulmer replaces Danks at some point in the near future.
