When Cespedes inevitably opts out and becomes a free agent next offseason, can we keep the discussion in this thread as well? It would be awesome if we could get this thread to 10,000 posts or more.

I laugh when I see people putting Arrieta ahead of Sale. -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

lol at the guy that thinks that Gray is WAY more valuable than Sale. He might have slightly more value, but it's close. -

White Sox interested in SS Ian Desmond
ChiSoxFanMike replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here's my plan. - Trade Avi and Tyler Danish for Carlos Gomez - Sign Ian Desmond to a 3 year/$45 million deal Lineup: 1. Adam Eaton (RF) 2. Carlos Gomez (CF) 3. Jose Abreu (1B) 4. Todd Frazier (3B) 5. Melky Cabrera (LF) 6. Ian Desmond (SS) 7. Adam LaRoche (DH) 8. Brett Lawrie (2B) 9. Alex Avila/Dioner Navarro © Thoughts? That lineup seems pretty well rounded from top to bottom IMO. -
As the Mets have signed Cespedes, their outfield is crowded. They have Cespedes, Granderson, Conforto, De Aza, Lagares, and Nimmo all either on the big league roster or close to it. As there's only room for 3 of them to start consistently, I'd have to imagine that they'd be open to moving at least one of them. That brings us to Lagares. He is elite defensively, is signed to a pretty team friendly deal through 2020, and is only 26 years old. He had a down season last year, but is only a season removed from a 5.5 WAR campaign. How would you guys feel about the Sox going after this guy? Obviously he isn't anything special with the bat, but the Sox could really use his defense in center and he would make it possible to shift Eaton to a corner. I don't know what the Mets would want for him either, but the two sides could most likely make something work. Hopefully, we can make a nice little discussion thread here. Thanks.

I'm kind of warming up to the idea of Desmond. Say they sign him and Jackson. Eaton Melky Abreu Frazier Desmond LaRoche Lawrie Jackson Avila/Navarro That isn't perfect, but it's not terrible either.
-
What is with all the fascination with Ian Desmond on here? He is the type of player that the Sox should be avoiding.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:37 PM) If the Sox really wanted to, I think they can get Desmond & Fowler for under 27.5 million for 2016. ...while giving up 2 draft picks in the process. Hell no to that idea.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) Frazier, Lowry, the catchers, and the season hasn't started yet. I was referring to strictly outfielders. Frazier and Lawrie are nice but I don't know if this team is good enough even with them.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:07 PM) Here comes the meltdown I am not melting down. Please don't put words in my mouth. It's just annoying how the Royals and Tigers upgraded and the Sox got absolutely no one. But that's how it always is so I'm not surprised.

This is disappointing. Very disappointing.
-
How in the world do the Sox not beat that offer?
-
@Ken_Rosenthal #WhiteSox, for example, reportedly have been interested in three-year deal for Cespedes. @jonheyman reported emergence of mystery teams.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) They had to dial the phone for Avi and hand it to him because he kept reaching and flailing at the wrong receiver and missing the keypad entirely. Why the hell is Avi doing these phone calls? 99.9% of Sox fans want his ass out the door anyway

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) Gardner's pretty good. 2014: 87 R 142 H 17 HR 58 RBI 21 SB .749 OPS 2015: 94 R 148 H 16 HR 66 RBI 20 SB .742 OPS Now that I look at it, he does seem like a decent fit. This lineup isn't too bad. Eaton Gardner Abreu Frazier Melky Lawrie LaRoche Navarro Saladino I guess it depends on what the Sox would have to give up for him. I wonder if Danish and Hawkins would be enough if the Sox took on his entire salary.
-
The Sox haven't been mentioned by a national writer about Cespedes news in FOREVER. I don't know whether that's a good or bad thing.
-
Gardner isn't great, but I wouldn't mind trading for him in the right deal. Obviously he isn't as good as Cespedes, but he could slot into the 2 hole nicely behind Eaton.

raBBit is laying down the HAMMER tonight. This is entertaining.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:43 PM) Ya, I don't get the Brewers interest. They are rebuilding and have plenty of young talented outfielders. A veteran like Jackson makes no sense for the Brewers. Actually it does if they can sign him to a 1 year deal for cheap and flip him at the deadline for prospects.
-
Why try and sign Cespedes when we have a perennial 30/30 threat in Avisail Garcia?
-
I don't know how legit this guy is, so take it FWIW. @scotteRotoX Have it on very good word that the White Sox will not be in on Cespedes at all
-
I still have a small piece of hope, but I'm preparing to be disappointed. It is what it is. Perhaps the Sox are making the right choice by not throwing a huge commitment at him. Hopefully they can find an alternative that fits their agenda better.

At this point, f*** it and offer 5/125. The Sox need Cespedes.
