  1. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Word is the Sox might go to four years on either Cespedes or Upton. The latter is intrigued with the south side. https://mobile.twitter.com/georgeofman/stat...563284490207232 I have a feeling that something will happen soon.
  2. I feel like the Sox need to get Cespedes before Upton signs, because otherwise all the teams that missed out on Upton will get into the Cespedes sweepstakes.
  3. I have a feeling that something will happen soon.
  4. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) So let's narrow it down: CWS, BAL. DET sitting back along with LAA. I still like our chances. Baltimore is bringing back Davis. I think LA gets Upton. To me it's down to CWS and DET and this is why they're being patient. I gotta give you credit, I really admire your optimism. I really hope the Sox get something done because I think the acquisition of Cespedes would rejuvenate the fanbase a bit.
  5. It would be so nice if Davis went back to Baltimore.
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) Anyway you want to look at this, this is HUGE news for he Sox. Baltimore, Tigers, Angels, Nationals and Sox left for these big OFers imo. I honestly think it's down to the O's, Nationals, and Sox. I just can't see the Angels or Tigers signing one of the big OFers with their luxury tax concerns. I guess it's possible that they could, but it seems unlikely.
  7. Good. We can take them off the list in the Cespedes sweepstakes.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 3m3 minutes ago Brian Bilek Retweeted Josh Nelson The #WhiteSox will get another outfielder. That's a promise. I'm not talking Sands/Fields type either. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 1m1 minute ago If #WhiteSox don't sign Cespedes/Upton it won't be for lack of willingness to go to a fourth year. They have the upper hand in the market. Isn't that statement exactly the opposite of what he just reported a few minutes ago? All I know is that I will be pissed if Avi is the starting RF on Opening Day.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 2m2 minutes ago .@Ken_Rosenthal just reported to @EliHershkovich that the #WhiteSox are firm on their stance of not going over 3 years with Cespedes/Upton. Then this thread can be deleted. I f***ing hate the Sox sometimes. They're one good hitter away from being a legit contender and of course they won't go for it. SMDH.
  10. Here's a really outside the box idea: sign Desmond to play SS and Alexei to play RF. Alexei is most well known as a SS as we all know, but he did play a bit of outfield in '08. As far as I'm concerned, he'd be an upgrade over Avi in RF and his defense would most likely be adequate enough.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:40 PM) How about this...trade Tim Anderson and Danish for Dickerson and then sign Desmond No thanks.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) Fun fact: He's played in one major league game...for the Tigers. He replaced....wait for it....Yoenis Cespedes. mind = blown
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) If the Sox are going to wait as Merkin suggests, then I hope they go ahead and grab Jackson ASAP. Jackson? As in Austin Jackson?
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 6m6 minutes ago Everyone freaking out about the #WhiteSox supposedly not willing to go more than three years should take a step back. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 5m5 minutes ago The #WhiteSox are never straightforward with anything financial in the media. They never have been and they shouldn't be. Discretion is key. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 4m4 minutes ago Why would KC give Gordon four years with a 5th year option if the #WhiteSox were only offering three years? They wouldn't. This is promising news.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) Just did a twitter check. Nightengale tweeted the White Sox 3 year max thing on New Year's day. Moore said the Royals and Gordon got close on New Year's Eve. So this came out right about the time the Sox realized they had no shot at Gordon. That's an interesting point. I don't know if that's relevant with the Sox's negotiations with Cespedes or not, but it's interesting nonetheless.
  16. I wonder if a 3 year/$90 million deal would work. The Sox could pay him $20 million in 2016 and $35 million in 2017/2018. That's a huge payroll commitment for 1 guy in the last 2 years of the deal, but the duration of the contract isn't too bad. Plus it saves money for 2016 while Danks and LaRoche are still on the books.
  17. I just don't understand the fascination of the people on here that want the Sox to acquire other teams garbage. The Sox have too many garbage players as it is, there is no reason to trade for more of them.
  18. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) Phil Rogers was just on hot stove. Just reiterated the 3 year deal sentiment. Said we could be outbid for him by a team like Baltimore or Detroit. Did mention upton on a 2 year deal. Just get it done Hahn! Let's go buddy. I don't see us getting it done for 3 years, but if they did that'd be fine. I'm sorry, but the Sox aren't getting Cespedes on a 3 year deal unless the AAV was SKY high. Like $30+ million a season high.
  19. I will seriously cry tears of joy if the Sox can sign him.
  20. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 06:42 PM) Today, 6 for $125 mil Today ain't over yet.
  21. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) Start getting ready to have that thought all the time my friend. I would imagine everyone on here has these thoughts as you watch yourself age in comparison to players. Age 16-18: You start seeing those real young prospects and have the moment you just did where you are shocked that these guys are younger than you, but have so much potential. Age 19-22: You start seeing some of the superstar prospects make appearances in the major leagues and you start to wonder why you never were better at baseball. Age 23-26: You see most of the guys who make it to MLB come up and it hits you even though it was always obvious. You will never play in the major leagues. You'll stop having daydream fantasies about somehow becoming an MLB player. Age 27-30: You start to think about how the players your age are in their MLB prime. Then you evaluate your own physical condition and question if this is your prime. Age 31-35: You start seeing guys your age who had good careers, but are starting to fizzle out of baseball. You think about how young the new rookies look, even though it felt like just yesterday that they were your age. You'll start saying things like, "Oh to be 23 again". Age 36-40: You rarely see guys your age playing anymore. Than you once again have the feeling that you know you can never be a MLB player. I would imagine it keeps going from there. I bet you get to a point where you have all these feelings again, but instead of about you, you're comparing the player to your kid. This is very true but also very depressing lol QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) There should be a "Pre-16" stage too where you idolize these players and put them above all else. But when you get older you realize they are just regular people too (only really good at something we used to play as kids). I still idolize select players (Sale, Konerko, Thome, etc), but I don't think I'll do that anymore when I get to the point when I'm older than all the players in MLB. That just seems weird honestly.
  22. Well, the Brewers just signed Chris Carter, so that takes them out of the running for LaRoche (not that they were ever even interested in him in the first place, but some people on here were discussing a possible deal).
  23. I still find it pretty damn cool how one of the best players to ever live spent part of his career (albeit a very short stint) with the Sox.
