  1. I'm kind of sad that Seaver's record is broken because he's my dad's all time favorite player.
  2. Would you guys prefer Cespedes by himself or Span/Jackson as a package? Span/Jackson is the more likely outcome it seems like, but Cespedes is much more talented.
  3. I want to see the Orioles sign Upton or Davis right now because that would take them out of the running for Cespedes.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Merkin's article seems very grounded in fact, by the way. We are pushing other teams to spend, and then we'll swoop when something is in our parameters. That seems like a perfect way of putting it. In other words, the Sox will swoop in and nab Austin Jackson when all the good outfielders are taken.
  5. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) I'd much rather sign Austin Jackson or Denard Span than trade anything for a declining Markakis. What sucks about missing on Gordon is he would've slotted perfectly into the 2 hole in front of Jose. Even if we bring in Cespedes or Upton, that still leaves Jose hitting 2nd. He should absolutely be hitting 3rd with a decent OBP guy in front of him and the middle of the order. What about Melky? He's probably the best 2 hole hitter the Sox have. Regardless if the Sox get Cespedes/Upton/Etc, I'd have to imagine that Melky will be hitting 2nd in the lineup ... in the beginning of the season at least.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) The White Sox know what they need as much as anyone. They didn't get Gordon. As long as KC was willing to pay up, they and every other team weren't going to get Gordon. Now it's on to their next target. If that fails, the next one. Eventually they will have another OF. Hahn has admitted as much. Who knows, sometimes, your 2nd or 3rd or 4th choice works out better than choice #1. I would have loved it if they signed Gordon, but it didn't happen. There are other teams that could use his services that didn't sign him either. No need to panic, there are more than a few guys left that give the White Sox a pretty solid upgrade. Well said. However, if the Sox can't get Cespedes or Upton, I will be very disappointed.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) Huh? He was offered 7/150 so why would he be a moron for rejecting only $15 mill guaranteed? He's not going to get $150 million or more from any other team besides the Orioles IMO.
  8. I am just so surprised that Davis didn't accept the O's offer. He's a moron if he thinks he can get more $$$ somewhere else.
  9. That guy is younger than me. Wow.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) They signed for nothing because both are garbage. Jackson wasn't garbage when he was with the Sox. That's why I wanted the Sox to get him again.
  11. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) Morosi tweeting Orioles staying in contact with Upton if they dont re-sign Chris Davis. I have a feeling that the O's will get Upton and the Sox will get Cespedes.
  12. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 1m1 minute ago There is increasingly strong sentiment among competitors that Alex Gordon is going to wind up back in Kansas City and it could happen soon. Good. That would force the Sox to get Cespedes, who I want more than Gordo anyway.
  13. No thanks. If for no other reason, I wouldn't want to give the compensation pick to the Cubs.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) The Hall of Fame is an irrelevant joke. Is the Hall of Fame significantly flawed? Yes. Is the Hall of Fame an irrelevant joke? No.
  15. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) ??? I said if Anderson = Alexei, they should have traded him for Frazier. Anderson is who the REds wanted and who we wouldn't give. I thought you were referring to Alexei. My bad.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) Nothing wrong with it, I suppose. I'm hoping he's a much better hitter than a .709 career OPS. I'm hoping he's a great player or at least well above average. Ramirez wasn't. And Ramirez is what he is, we should have traded him for Frazier and kept the other 3. Why would the Reds/Dodgers have had any interest in Alexei?
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 07:15 PM) Oh boy. What?
  18. I could see him getting a contact similar to what J.A. Happ got this offseason if he pitches somewhat decently in 2016.
  19. This thread has been so quiet and slow lately.
  20. My clavicle is telling me that this will drag on for a few more days.
  21. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) He doesn't play RF. He's played 60 career games in RF. But I used green font so it was implied that I was kidding.
  22. Plot twist: The Sox sign Davis to play RF.
  23. Ilitch is old and the Tigers are built to win now. Their farm system is f***ed anyway, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to get one of the big 3 even if it put them over the luxury tax.
  24. We have almost 2500 posts between this and the Gordon thread, and neither of them have even signed a contract yet. Imagine how much action there will be when in these threads when they do finally sign somewhere.
  25. Does anyone know the relationship between Abreu and Cespedes? Are they friends?
