  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) It's one thing to tell an agent - we're not willing to do 5 years... It's an entirely different thing to say that and then back it up with a release through press that you're only wanting a 3 year deal. Makes said agent more willing to come back and meet in the middle. Just standard business, folks. This actually makes a lot of sense. I hope Hahn is thinking like this and tries to convince one of these guys to settle in the middle as far as the duration of the contract goes.
  2. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 06:08 PM) These are just games with the media. Fans continue to fall for them and freak out. How do you know that for sure unless you work in the Sox FO? I'm hoping you're right, but I'm not banking on it.
  3. QUOTE (Special K @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 05:20 PM) There is no chance this will ever happen. Absolute best case scenario, .240 with 10-12 homers. I've never seen someone deteriorate offensively so quickly in all my years watching baseball but it happened with LaRoche. Even his OBP was garbage. He really is this bad now. His agent better have gotten a phenomenal Christmas gift from him. Couldn't this exact same phrase have been said after Adam Dunn's 2011 season? His tenure with the Sox after that wasn't perfect, but it was leaps and bounds better than 2011. I don't think LaRoche will be any different. The worst case scenario for him next season IMO is .210 or so with 15 homers.
  4. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/whit...hree-years.html Did anyone else besides me notice that Upton is mentioned just briefly in this article? It makes me wonder if he's the guy the Sox really want.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) I think they'll have to pick up a couple. It's not like Charlotte's Rotation is anywhere close to full. That alone will force them to spend some money on a guy or two. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting Sale or Quintana like production from anyone they'd sign to one of these types of deals...but I'd like another established pitcher or two in Charlotte for depth purposes just in case Johnson or Danks fall apart. Just taking a look at the free agent list, I'd send minor league contract offers with an invite to spring training to guys like Joe Blanton, Kyle Lohse, Jerome Williams, Cliff Lee, Edwin Jackson, Shaun Marcum, etc. None of them are anything great, but there's a small chance that one of them could improve under Coop's tutelage.
  6. If I'm the Sox, I sign every pitcher like Gavin Floyd that I can find. They're low risk, high reward, and cheap. Hell, I'd sign 6 or 7 veteran pitchers to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training and maybe one of them finds their way onto the big league team if they have a solid spring training. If they bust, fine. Just release them before the season starts. There's no risk from the Sox perspective. At least that's what I'd do.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) Jon Heyman mentioned Jimmy Rollins in his column today. Pass. I think Saladino could put up better numbers than him for much cheaper.
  8. Sign Floyd to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training and Latos to a 1 year, $1.5 million deal with a crapload of incentives. There you go.
  9. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 11:52 AM) I think the Cardinals are a dark horse for Gordon and I think SF is a dark horse for Cespedes. I just can't see SF being a player for Cespedes considering that they've already spent $220 million this offseason alone on Cueto and Samardzija. If they get an outfielder I think it'll be someone in the Parra/Span/Fowler/Jackson group.
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) Oh for the love of God will this roller coaster just end already?! Now back to Gordon?! I was already over that happening. Exactly my thoughts as well. I don't know how much more of this I can handle before my head explodes. Come on Rick, just sign of one of them!!!
  11. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) @PatrickHoward50 "Hearing talks broke down because Yoenis Cespedes wants a 6-year deal, while White Sox only want to offer 5. Upton out of picture. (Pt. 1)." "White Sox still prefer Cespedes, may circle back to Alex Gordon if K.C. offer is low. White Sox willing to add 5th year to Gordon contract." ...So, I think that says all it does needs to about that whole saga in terms of his tweets last night. I don't know about you guys, but I'd much rather give Cespedes 6 years than give Gordon 5.
  12. I just have a really hard time believing that the Sox won't do anything else now considering that they've already acquired Frazier and Lawrie. Those trades are meaningless and pointless if the Sox don't add anyone else. Why upgrade two positions when at least one more substantial upgrade is necessary to turn the team from a "wildcard hopeful" into a "legit contender"? The bottom line, in my opinion, is that Hahn is not done making moves and something else will be done.
  13. I hate waiting as much as anyone, but this could be a blessing in disguise for the Sox. The longer these guys wait, the lower their asking price becomes. Hence, when the Sox sign one of them later this offseason, they'll have paid them less than they would've if they signed them now. The extra money saved could then be used to grab another starter for depth purposes. Think positive. I'm pretty sure Hahn knows what he's doing and that we'll get something out of this.
  14. QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) Sox not going over $100 mil. Have we just been wasting our time on here for the last several days? I had to edit because all of the talk has been quite interesting! Was this ever confirmed by raBBit or bucket?
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 12:43 AM) http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/kids...654e57b745.html Some quotes (probably missed them earlier) from Gordon on his situation from the Harold Reynolds baseball camp there in Omaha...btw, Brian Duensing would be another name to throw in the mix for LHR/loogy. Isn't that exactly why Dan Jennings is currently on the team? To be a loogy?
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 11:45 PM) Did you make this? I'm laughing out loud. Props to whoever thought of making another one of these.
  17. I just asked Barstool Dave on Twitter about what the current situation is and if he feels confident about the Sox signing Cespedes, and he said... Take that FWIW. It's looking good for us now though IMO.
  18. @barstoolWSD All I was told is that Yo and the Sox are "very close on 6/125". Trustworthy guy (f*** "sources"). I'm waiting with baited breath as well
  19. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) Maybe we will get Cespedes, Gordon, Desmond and Chris Davis and then call it an offseason. Oh and Latos. We'd need Upton too. Otherwise those players won't make the team good enough.
  20. @JonHeymanCBS chisox are at least weighing yoenis cespedes & alex gordon to fill an outfield spot @Ken_Rosenthal & @JesseSanchezMLB on it Heyman is tweeting. This is getting serious.
  21. Do raBBit or bucket of suck have any new info that they're willing to share with the rest of us?
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Hmm we'll find out soon how credible this guy is. I asked him if he'd bet his reputation on this rumor, and he said yes, FWIW.
  23. @PatrickHoward50 Per source within the White Sox organization; team will ink Yoenis Cespedes to a 6-year deal. Dollar amount pegged at $125-135 million.
