This is actually pretty good for the Sox. The Sox can give Mazara an audition in 2020 and then reassess if he doesn't work out. Castellanos could be another option for RF next year assuming he opts out, and hopefully he'll torment the Cubs in the meantime.
I never understood why Sox fans were jumping off the ledge when the Donaldson signing was announced. Sure he’s a great player but he’s on the older side and has been more injury prone in recent years. He helps them for sure but by no means did that signing clinch the division for the Twins. The Sox have as good of a chance as anyone.
That’s the only reason I’m more open to trading for Arenado now than I was before. The Rockies have zero leverage at this point. I don’t think they’ll get as much for him as people expect.
I wonder what the Sox would have to give up at this point since the Rockies have zero leverage. If the asking price isn’t ridiculous I wouldn’t be opposed to it now.
Between Dozier, Holt, Brad Miller, Gennett, or Yolmer, who would you guys want the most as the starting second baseman in the beginning of the season and utility guy after that?
Dozier makes some sense for the Sox, but I’m not sure the Sox make sense for Dozier. He has a solid track record, why would he want to go to a team where he would be a bench player after April? You’d think he’d want to start somewhere so he could try to cash in again next offseason.
I would’ve brought him back for that price as well to be a swingman out of the bullpen, but he probably wanted to go to a team where he would get an opportunity to start.
