I love Madrigal and think he’s going to be really good but I would do that trade for the reason you mentioned. It’s a lot easier to find a serviceable second baseman than a pitcher.
I'm really warming up to the idea of the Sox trading for either Sale or Price and getting Benintendi as a reward for taking on one of those big contracts. The Sox would then get a quality left handed starting pitcher as well as a promising young outfielder with several years of team control. It kills two birds with one stone. Sign me up for that.
Judging by only his headshot on Baseball Reference, he looks like he would be a really good player. He just has that look. That smile. That confidence.
People still think Bumgarner is as good as he was at his peak. He’s not. And these are the same people who would complain when he’s getting lit up in the AL. Overpaying for him out of desperation is one of the worst things the Sox could do right now.
Thanks for the response. If the money is equal, I don’t see why Wheeler would pick the Reds over the Sox. The Sox are in a much easier division and I’d have to think that Chicago is a more attractive destination than Cincinnati.
