  1. The only way I see this happening is if the Sox sign Harper and then decide to "go for it" next season.
  2. I think you guys are reading too far into things at this point. For one, obviously they're not going to spend 100% of their time and effort going after just Harper. They would be foolish to ignore other potential possibilities that could make the team better, whether that's pitching or other position players. As far as raBBit goes, I'm not sure why he retweeted that tweet but I think there's a fair amount of sarcasm that can be taken from it. I highly doubt that anything LaRoche related would have an impact on whether or not Harper would sign with the Sox this offseason. The LaRoche saga was almost 3 years ago at this point.
  3. I'm on a forum with fans of all teams, and I made a thread asking what team they think Harper will sign with. I got 20+ responses so far and not one of them said the Sox.
  4. At the end of the day, all the Sox really have to do is offer the most money and he'll most likely accept.
  5. The amazing thing is that the Sox could totally afford both of them if that's what they wanted to do.
  6. I'd put the odds on that happening at like 1%. No one in their right mind is going to take on that atrocious contract. The Cubs would have to package him with guys already on the MLB roster (Schwarber, Happ, Contreras) to have any chance of unloading him but that wouldn't make any sense for them.
  7. I don't even know if Boras was involved in this scenario. Sounds like Harper could have told his friends what the offers were, that friend told the mutual friend, and then that info got on Facebook which is where Peavy is getting it from.
  8. Do you guys think the Sox are still interested in Machado or are they putting all their time and resources into Harper at this point?
  9. It's entirely possible that Rick Hahn could have an account on this forum *mind blown*
  10. I would be happy with either, but the 5 year opt-out is great. It ensures that the Sox would have him through the 2023 season which aligns perfectly with their window.
  11. I would love if that 12 year/420 million with an opt-out after year 5 is true. That would be perfect for the Sox.
  12. In hindsight, it actually worked to the Sox benefit to not get Cespedes. He is constantly injured and that contract would not look pretty right now.
  13. This whole thing reminds me so much of Cespedes and how Sox fans were clamoring for him a few years ago.
  14. Like I said yesterday, the fact that no reporter or insider is saying much of anything about Harper to the Sox is probably a good thing. The Sox front office is usually stays quiet when they're about to make a big move.
  15. If Harper is willing to sign here, you cannot go into next season with Adam Engel as the starting CF.
  16. Honestly, I don't think this will amount to much. That tweet was more from the Dodgers perspective than anything else. Nowhere does it say that the Sox are actively looking to trade him.
