QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) With a guy like this, if you wait for him, you miss out on him. This is the best chance the White Sox have left to get a kid who is quite literally regarded as a generational talent into the system. Three years from now, he is going to be where Yoan Moncada is at. or 3 years from now he could be floundering in rookie ball. I'm definitely not opposed to acquiring him, he just can't be the main piece for Q. Way too much risk.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) It doesn't shock me that they don't want to part with Maitan. The guy will be a top 10 prospect as soon as he starts playing pro ball. He may well have a higher ceiling than any guy that has been talked about in connection with Quintana. I would kick an orphan to get him into our system. He hasn't even had a professional at-bat yet. He's 17 years old. The hype train has to slow down a bit until he shows he can do it against pro competition.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 11:48 PM) This board is like America ... changing. So many people want cookie cutter announcers now and actually think Hawk is lousy. My gawd. Hawk does not speak in an annoying announcer voice. Same with Stoney. He is not a plastic announcer. He's real. I must admit I thought Benetti did a nice job last year and had a good rapport with Stone. Sox did a good job of picking Benetti who doesn't seem to be a corporate tool either. So in a nutshell, we've got people on this board wanting the Sox to lose every game. Check. We've got people who do not want to see our best prospects for a long long time on the big league team lest they be "rushed" and "flop like Beckham did." Check. Sad state of affairs. Give me Hawk. Give me rebuilds like the Yankees (spend spend spend and never be lousy!) Give me winning baseball not the crap the Sox have spewed out there in the Robin era. I agree with the bolded. The rest? Not so much.

Tucker/Martes/Reed/Laureano is what I'm guessing the package will be.

Anyone think the Sox could be interested in Joba Chamberlain as a reclamation project? He was released today.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) I find it very interesting that Burdi still hasn't been sent out, and that he wasn't sent out the day that the rest of the top group was sent out, including someone like Fulmer. I wonder if he has a shot? It would be unforgivable if the Sox burned a year of service time on him for absolutely no reason. -

I'd like to see the bench be Liriano, Soto/Narvaez, Delmonico, and Sanchez. In reality Davidson and Leury will probably make it even though I don't think either of them offers much of anything. -

Honestly I'd rather see Nicky Delmonico make it over Davidson. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) I can assure you that Renteria and the boys will be trying to win baseball games. I don't doubt that the Sox want to win every game; it just won't happen often, at least in 2017. -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) #WhiteSox high asking price for Jose Quintana makes sense based on the maximum returns they got in both the Sale and Eaton trades. #patience https://twitter.com/JimBowden_ESPN/status/844543363013586944 Well, um, isn't this common sense?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 08:56 AM) I'm pretty sure he did. I recall him looking like he should be a barista at Starbucks with they type of glasses he wears. lmfao. He deserves a roster spot so long as he provides the team with coffee every morning.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) That would make 3 lefties in a row. That doesn't really matter in a tank year. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Why? He's having a nice spring and we are thin on lefties. Just another potential chip in June/July. His spring stats are better than I thought, but still, I don't think he'd have much deadline value even if he was decent and I'd rather give a younger guy his spot.

I don't think Luebke deserves to make the team.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) If cleared before June 15th then a team that has already blown through it's spending cap will likely go the extra mile to sign Robert as well If he clears after June 15th then I could see the Sox being one of the favorites Personally, I can the the mlb intentionally dragging its feet with this until after June 15th I'd be ok with this if what you say is true.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) Until he gets cleared to sign, it doesn't matter. The date when he gets cleared is absolutely vital to this process. Before June 15, he can sign for pretty much an unlimited amount of dollars, especially with a team that went over its bonus pool for this period. After June 15, certain teams pretty much lose the right to sign him, while others come back on line. On top of that, the new cap rules go into effect, so Robert's contract prospects drop off by a large amount. At this point, there really isn't much to talk about, and won't be until he gets cleared. Good point. Either way, I hope the Sox do whatever it takes to land him. I already trust Hahn in this process but adding an elite, impact talent like Robert would only further cement that.

This is such a steal for the Sox. They'll pay Anderson pennies on the dollar even if he's only league average.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) You have to love the deal from Anderson's perspective as well Imagine you are a 23 year old kid and you just signed a deal for a guaranteed $25 million pre tax. Welcome to the 1% Tim This is arguably even better from the player's point of view because the team is clearly invested in him moving forward and is willing to guaranty his future Rodon would be taking a pretty big risk by not taking a deal somewhat similar because the risk of injuries for pitchers is much higher than position players. Boras might be his agent, but if a player says "I want to ensure my future...do it" there's not much stopping him. Rodon taking a hard line approach could end up costing him millions if he gets injured prior to reaching free agency. Regardless, the Sox control his right through 2022, so it's not like he is goign anywhere anytime soon. Agreed. It's a great deal for both sides. Anderson is financially set for life now and the Sox potentially got a steal of a deal and locked up one of their core pieces at the same time. Anderson will be in his prime for the duration of this extension so I'd have to think this deal is a win for the Sox as long as Anderson is a positive WAR player. I love Rodon but I don't see him signing an extension here. Hope I'm wrong.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) There is also a marketing element to this. The Sox want to keep their fans excited during what should be a somewhat painful rebuilding process and locking up a promising young talent helps build some goodwill. Perhaps this move is a year early, but the downside risk is so low that it's worth maintaining some positive momentum with the fans. This another reason why I fully expect us to land Luis Robert if he's declared in this free agent period. Hahn will want some to show some early signs of progress before the second half of this rebuild takes shape in June & July. Do you really think the Sox are the frontrunners for Robert? I'd certainly hope so but they're hard to read because the front office keeps things quiet for the most part.
-
I honestly don't know how anyone couldn't like this deal from the team's perspective.
-
It's essentially like $4 million a year and the Sox will have him for his entire prime. I think it's a great deal even if Anderson only turns out to be a 1-2 WAR player yearly (obviously I hope he becomes much more than that).
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) I'm kinda confused until we know how much additional control we have. Bobby said the Sox got 2 additional years out of him, so I'm assuming there's 2 option years at the back end of the deal. Supposedly the Sox control him through 2025 now.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) 6 years, 25 million. No word on how many options and how much money Wow, that seems like an absolute steal. Kudos to Hahn for getting it done. Thanks man.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 07:50 AM) 6 years plus options, it's official Do you have more details please? Are they team options? How much money is the contract worth?
-
This would be a great move. Buy out his pre-arbitration years, and add a couple years onto the back end of the deal. It's good for both sides and Anderson is a core piece that would've probably been extended at some point anyway. Hahn is a wizard at these sort of things.
