  1. Donaldson will be pretty old by the time the Sox could sign him. He'd still be an upgrade, but signing him is a much riskier proposition than signing Machado, even though Donaldson will cost less.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 07:18 AM) Biggest contract given out is 6/ $68m...but yeah we'll sign Machado. Dude will likely get anywhere between 8-12 year deal with an opt-out after age 29 season. If the Sox were serious about winning and rewarding their fans for sitting through a rebuild, they'd sign Machado if things fall into place like they should.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) I think there is still plenty enough to get a deal done. If you clean out almost all of the rest of their top 10, I think you still win. Even without Torres and Frazier that still leaves position players like Mateo, Rutherford, Andujar, McKinney, Judge, and Garcia. I think every single one of those guys would be in our 3-5 top position players. That also doesn't touch their pitching depth. We could absolutely load up on quality and quantity. I doubt the Yankees would make a 5 for 1 or 6 for 1 trade for Q. Besides, I want a couple really good prospects instead of a bunch of decent ones.
  4. IF (and it's a big if) Kopech reaches his full potential, I think he'll be the best pitcher in baseball. His stuff is that good.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) I think if something like that is too light, Quintana is never being traded. Rutherford has never even played above rookie ball and is only 19 years old. There's no way I'd take someone as uncertain as him as the main piece in a Q deal, especially considering Q is as much of a sure thing as there is in all of baseball.
  6. I'm not sure what thread to put this in, but Derek Norris got released by the Nationals. I would take him over Geovany Soto in a heartbeat.
  7. I didn't realize May and Engel were so inexperienced at AAA, so I guess some at-bats there would do them well. I'd still like to see them in the Majors at some point in 2017 though. Leury is nothing but a placeholder as far as I'm concerned.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) Leury can be a fine bench piece. There's no reason to call up May and Engel to sit on the bench (unless you're implying they would start). Well yeah I'd want them to start. I'd dump Avi, let Rymer start in RF, and then put Engel/May with LF/CF and Melky at DH. The hope would be that one of those outfielders sticks.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) Neither are MLB-ready in my view. I think the smart move in a rebuild is to allow both of them to get solid in AAA first. Leury gains nothing from being in AAA anyway. Maybe not, but I don't think Leury is anything more than a AAAA player and I would be highly surprised if he was a long term piece in this rebuild. May and Engel probably won't become MLB regulars either but I'd rather give them a shot since they've never had one. Leury is what he is at this point.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 07:24 AM) All the players that are out of options makes this interesting. 1. T. Anderson SS 2. J. Abreu 1B 3. M.Cabrera LF 4. T. Frazier 3B 5. M. Davidson 3B 6. A. Garcia RF 7. T. Saladino 2B 8. O. Narvaez C 9. P. Bourjos CF Bench C G. Soto INF Y. Sanchez U L. Garcia OF R. Liriano Starters 1. J. Quintana 2. C. Rodon 3. J. Shields 4. M. Gonzalez 5. D. Holland Bullpen D. Robertson N. Jones J. Petricka Z. Putnam D. Jennings D. Covey M. Ynoa I think Davidson, Sanchez, L. Garcia, and M. Ynoa are roster locks because they are all out of options. Covey stays as a rule 5 guy. I've seen speculation from some (including Scott Merkin) about Jacob May being the CF but then Bourjos would be gone entirely in my opinion. No 2nd Lefty in the pen (not that it matters). I put Rymer on the roster because he's out of options but Iw couldn't be stunned to see him gone and Asche making it with the LHB. This looks right to me. I'd much rather see May or Engel make the team over Leury but I doubt that will happen, at least initially.
  11. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Well he currently throws from the stretch, which is not all that common for a starting pitcher I'm not sure why they do not stretch him out and give him a chance to start while we are rebuilding for the next few seasons? If that does not work out he can always relieve More than likely, Sox scouts feel much better about getting him to the majors in relief rather than screwing around trying to get him to be a starter. He was a reliever in college, so they might not want to mess with a good thing? That's what I would assume. It's also possible that Burdi and his agent want to get his MLB service time started ASAP and being a reliever is the fastest way to do that.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) If Saladino were on another team, you would deal Spencer Adams for him? A guy who has been good in a backup role but hasn't proven anything as an everyday player (not his fault; he is good with the glove however). It'll be awesome to see him get steady time this upcoming season. There's so many variables to this question, but if I was a contending team in need of a utility infielder? You better believe I'd trade an Adams type for a guy that could be a 2-3 WAR player this year.
  13. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) Move Quintana, Cabrera, Robertson, Frazier, and Jones and leave Moncada in the minors for all of 2017 and we're golden. As close to the bottom as I'm willing to get. Fixed again.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) Exactly what would you trade for Tyler Saladino? At this very moment in time? Maybe a Spencer Adams type. But that can all change if he lights it up next year.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 08:05 AM) I'd take Rutherford, Mateo, Andujar, and Kapreilian in a heartbeat but I don't think New York would do that. This feels too light for me. Rutherford is nice and all but I think he's too much of a wildcard at this point in time to be the main prospect in a deal.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 07:24 AM) If that is a something you are thinking about, you are WAY overrating Tyler Saladino. He isn't Adam Eaton, and never will be. At the top end, we are talking about a starter that you would probably look to replace on a regular basis, at the very best, maybe an OK starter. Okay...that still doesn't mean that he doesn't have value. He'd be a great utility guy on any contender and that has value in of itself. How much trade value he would have I really don't know but it's not like he's a negative WAR player. I also don't know where the comparison to Eaton came from because I never compared them and they're not even close to being the same player.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) Tyler Saladino isn't going anywhere. This is a gross oversimplification. What if he tears it up in the 1st half next year? The Sox would certainly move him for the right package.
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) I feel like Torres is the hold up in this deal. Hahn needs to get him back and Cashman is reluctant to throw him in, similar to what happened with Dombroski and Moncada. I don't even think Frazier is acceptable as a headliner for what Hahn wants to get done. It wouldn't shock me if Cashman considered him "untouchable" (even though I don't think he should be for a player of Q's caliber). In all honesty, a 4 or 5 player package headlined by Frazier/Rutherford would be enough for me in all likelihood assuming the other guys are somewhat decent (maybe Mateo, Andujar, Fowler, etc).
  19. My fear is that the Sox will call him up too early. He's super young like others have said and should improve his K rate over time, but I'm worried that they'll throw him to the wolves too quickly and it would be harder for him to improve at the MLB level than at AA or AAA. At this point, I hope he stays down in the minors until September at the earliest.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) He's probably a bust. C'mon now, you know that's not what I mean. I'm just saying the early results aren't as promising as I would've hoped for.
  21. I know it's only been a handful of games and a small sample size, but I'm starting to worry a bit about Moncada's K rate. MLB pitchers are going to eat him alive if he doesn't improve.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Exciting split squad action tomorrow. Kopech facing the Rangers at 2 on WGN. Change your clocks tonight. Not expecting that to go well.
