QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Exciting split squad action tomorrow. Kopech facing the Rangers at 2 on WGN. Change your clocks tonight. Not expecting that to go well.

Hahn has to be grinning from ear to ear right about now.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
ChiSoxFanMike replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think we can all agree that Q is a consummate professional, a great pitcher, and a great guy, but baseball is ultimately a business, and Hahn will be forced to make some tough decisions. I don't think he wanted to have to trade Sale and Eaton either, but it is what it is. That's a story for another time however. As far as Q goes, I can't see the rationale in keeping him long term. In a perfect world, he'd have 1, maybe 2 seasons left on his current contract in which he could pitch for a competitive Sox team. Barring something absolutely amazing, 2017 and 2018 will be a wash, thus wasting 2 years of his prime and team friendly contract. It's a high risk and only medium reward scenario and an array of dominoes would have to fall into place to make this plan worth it. Q deserves better than to pitch for a rebuilding team and his presence actually hurts the Sox as far as potential draft position goes for the 2018 and 2019 drafts. I'd have to hope Hahn is smart enough to realize this and trade him now to fully capitalize on his value right now. The thought of getting 2 or 3 everyday position players for the next half decade is a lot more appealing to me than holding him in hopes of utilizing him on a winning team for a year or 2 when he'll be in his 30's. Hahn also has to consider that the pitching is a strength for the Sox. By 2019 or 2020, the hope would be that Rodon/Giolito/Lopez/Fulmer are all well established MLB pitchers, and guys like Kopech/Hansen/Adams/Dunning/future draftees & trade acquisitions are waiting in the wings and are close to making an impact at the MLB level as well. The Sox can develop arms with the best of them. Bats are another story, so I'd prefer to acquire as many as possible in hopes that a couple of them stick. Q might not even be needed if everything falls into place. and lastly, the fact that Q could get injured or have an unexpected downturn in performance has to be considered. While not likely, it's a possibility. There's no way I'd take that chance if I was Hahn. It's just too risky considering Q is the best trade chip the Sox have left and he could be used to acquire several impact players in the future. So, in my opinion, trading Q is the only option. I wish it didn't have to be this way, but it does. -
White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

Unless the Sox can get a significant haul of MLB ready talent for Robertson, Jones, Frazier, etc, I find it extremely implausible that Q will play a significant role on the next really good White Sox team...unless he's willing to sign an extension. He's only controlled through 2020 as of now so the rebuild would have to progress really quickly in order to make the thought of holding onto him a good idea. It just seems too unlikely to come to fruition. Trading him now has and will be the right move as far as I'm concerned. Burning most of his prime and affordable years on rebuilding teams makes no sense to me. -
"White Sox fire sale isn’t over — it just got paused"

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:38 AM) Agreed, but at the same time it's probably better to make sure he's playing really well in AAA to avoid stunting his development (the fear if he comes up to the majors too quickly) This is the point I was trying to make. In a perfect world, I'd like to see him master AAA before coming to Chicago to ensure he's fully ready. With the MLB team in the midst of a rebuild, I hope that is the route they decide to take with him. It makes the most sense for both Moncada and the organization.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) JJ Stankevitz @JJStankevitz 4m First #WhiteSox spring roster cuts: Spencer Adams, Brian Clark, Zack Collins, Courtney Hawkins and David Holmberg sent to minor league camp. Kind of disappointing that Collins was already sent down. I thought he did pretty well.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 05:14 PM) I agree here. I've heard Levine say he'd be up in May, but that just seems to be a guess like anyone else. He's never played in AAA (even though he got a look with the Red Sox). Let him go to the International League, and be one of the best players in that league at age 22, and then when he has nothing else to prove in that league, then bring him to the Sox. If that's August or September, great. Agreed. I'd even give him a full year in Charlotte if it benefits him long term. I don't know what the rush is in getting him to Chicago ASAP.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) considering 2/3 of the lineup hasn't seen an MLB pitch, odds are it would be a poor lineup. I said future lineup (as in 2019 or 2020). Not right now. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) I think he is going to get paid closer to the contract Harper wants than Harper lol and he deserves it more. Machado will likely get the contract Stanton got (probably more). Yeah, signing him is obviously the most unrealistic part of that lineup but I can dream, right? -

There's a ton of variables to this, but what if the Sox had a future lineup of: 1. Anderson (SS) 2. Moncada (2B) 3. Beer (1B) 4. Machado (3B) 5. Collins © 6. Abreu (DH) 7. Frazier/Rutherford (RF) 8. Robert (LF) 9. Mateo (CF) That would be insane. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) Don't think so, pretty sure Shaw is gonna be the third stringer/practice squad qb Good. I wanted to stab myself in the chest with a fork when he was the starter last year. It was atrocious. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) I know everyone is down on Mateo but I think he is someone that could easily be tried in CF and becomes a less risky prospect. That's a really good idea. He didn't have a great season last year but he's only 21 and I'm sure his speed would play quite well in CF. Moncada and Anderson have the middle infield spots locked up for the next half decade at least most likely but I really do like Mateo's potential in CF. He wouldn't even have to hit that well to be a very valuable commodity if his defense was elite. -

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Did you know Diaz did not allow a single earned run over his last 22.2 innings pitched in the minors? He was rock solid in relief to close out the season and showed 22.2 ip 14 hits 11 bb 31 k's He seems to have really turned a corner and improving. Sox scouts undoubtedly noticed this and wanted him to be included in the Sale deal. Unless the Sox think Diaz can become a dominant set up man or closer (if Burdi falters), I would've asked for another bat in place of him...but maybe that's just me. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) That's just it though. Not every team wants to deal away that much. This is likely the best offer they received. All we heard was reluctance to part with guys from the Yankees and Braves side (doubt either interest was sincere enough). Dodgers, Brewers and Padres were never connected. Nationals are moot since we received 2 of them the next day. That leaves only Red Sox. Red Sox don't have to pay 3 top 50 guys if the best offer for Sale (their's) only includes 2. I guess. The Red Sox must have not been compelled to put a third blue chip guy on the table if they knew their offer was already the best. It's just annoying. I like Basabe's potential but Diaz doesn't do much for me. He just seems like another bullpen arm. Even a guy like Travis or Dalbec in place of him would've made the deal much better. -

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) There are 30 MLB teams, how many have 3 top 50 prospects? Uh...the Red Sox did before the trade. The Nationals before the Eaton deal as well, maybe the Dodgers, Brewers, Padres, Braves, and Yankees too. My point isn't that Hahn got robbed in this trade. Moncada and Kopech at the front end were great gets. I'm simply saying he probably could've gotten one more impact piece had he been a little more persistent in the negotiations.
