It’s annoying, but I’m not going to complain too much. Yoan/Tim/Eloy are the main reasons why this team has been winning lately, and I’d rather have them playing well resulting in the Sox having a worse draft pick opposed to them struggling resulting in a better pick.
The only way that makes even a bit of sense is if Betts would sign an extension. But even if he is, they might as well sign him as a free agent in a year and keep the prospects.
Sign both Grandal and Martinez. No reason why that can’t happen. Collins can be the backup C/1B/DH who plays 2-3 times a week to keep the other guys fresh.
The Sox not getting Machado will probably end up being a blessing in disguise. But still, there was no reason for the Sox not to sign him at the time and they better spend the money they were planning on giving him on a stud pitcher this offseason. They can't sit on the sidelines anymore. It's time to put a winning team on the field.
He chose the home park of the team who offered him the most money. Can't blame him for that. But I do agree that his stats would probably look a lot better if he signed with the Sox and played half his games in a hitter's park.
I came here to post exactly this. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Mercedes might not amount to anything either, but at least he has upside. Skole is a 30 year old journeyman and Palka just sucks.
Since we're talking hypotheticals here, if the Sox signed Martinez, Corey Dickerson, Cole Hamels, and a decent reliever this offseason, would you guys be happy with that?
