If there's any positive to this situation, at least Arenado signed the contract extension while Harper is still on the board as a possibility. The Sox would have been in a real bind looking forward if Harper signed elsewhere first and then Arenado extended.

We all know the Sox were willing to pay Machado 350 million with the incentives. Just guarantee that same amount in full to Harper and I think they'd have a shot. Probably wishful thinking on my part though.
