Dallas Keuchel signs one year deal with Braves
WBWSF replied to SweatyFreddy's topic in The Diamond Club
Times have changed, that's for sure. Years ago if the team was bad it didn't draw and the team lost money. Today you lose and with low payrolls you make nothing but money. Always remember that Forbes magazine said the White Sox were the 6th most profitable team in MLB in 2018. This losing year after year and the franchise making nothing but money doesn't cut it with me. I dearly wish that JR would sell the team. -
Dallas Keuchel signs one year deal with Braves

Keuchel just signed with the Braves. JR + Hahn are not going to sign any premium free agents. This so called rebuild is going to be done as cheaply as possible. Hopefully the White Sox farm system will produce enough good players and this team can start winning again sometime in the near future. -
I would rather have Epstein running the White Sox instead of Hahn. Look at Epsteins record and then look at Hahns record. I have no doubt in my mind that the bad guys on the Northside will continue to fight for the playoffs in the forseeable future. Wish I could feel the same way about the White Sox.
-
Lopez can't get anybody out. What do the White Sox have to lose in bringing Cease up to the Majors? Cease might get hitters out.
-
Say what you want but at least the bad guys on the Northside are trying to win. I can't say the same about the White Sox management team.
-
Lopez stays up in the Majors and Cease stays down in the Minors. It's absolutely insane.
-
This White Sox starting rotation is really bad. Other than Giolito this rotation is for the birds. I can't understand why Cease hasn't been called up. What does the team have to lose by bringing him up? He couldn't be any worse than there present starters. Are they keeping him in the minors because he refused to sign a long term contract this past spring?

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him

Colome could actually be on the AL All Star Team if he keeps saving games. -

There are some people who like seeing Juan Minaya and Matt Davidson as our closers. There are also some people who are into a perpetual rebuild. The White Sox finally have a closer (Colome) who saves games. He's the first good closer the team has had since David Robertson. Unless the team gets a overwhelming offer for him, ( I don't mean another Blake Rutherford) I hope he stays here. I go to half of our home games. Its good to see somebody like Colome coming in and saving our games. -

If Colome gets traded I just hope the team gets something decent in return. I don't want another David Robertson for Blake Rutherford trade. -
The number/interest he got back wasn't intriguing but I would rather have him in the White Sox rotation than Covey-Banuelos. At least with Gonzalez you had a decent chance of winning and you had a chance of him pitching 5-6 innings every game. And for the money he signed for ($2 million) I would think it would have been a no brainer for Hahn.
-
Not bringing up Cease and keeping Covet-Banuelos in the rotation is insane or the team is trying to lose on purpose.
-
1) Mike Mulligan on the SCORE said the Hahn didn't make Gonzalez an offer. 2) Hahn should have offered him a 2 year contract and he might have accepted it.
-
Signing Gio Gonzalez for a mere $2 million a year (like the Brewers did) would have improved the starting rotation. He certainly is a better starter than Banuelos.
-
If Colome is traded (which I hope is not the case) I just hope he brings more than another bust like Blake Rutherford.

Do the White Sox have too much starting pitching?
WBWSF replied to Dam8610's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Anybody who thinks this White Sox team has too much starting pitching obviously believes in the Easter Bunny. -

Yeah, Hahn has burned up a lot of money this past season BUT THE WHITE SOX STILL HAVE ONE OF THE LOWEST TEAM PAYROLLS IN MLB. -
The White Sox offered Eloy Jimenez a long term contract this spring. He accepted the contract and was on the Opening day roster. The White Sox also offered a long term contract to Dylan Cease, and he declined the contract. Cease is still in the Minors. I can't help but wonder if Cease had signed the contract, he would be pitching for the White Sox now. Seems crazy that the team keeps calling up stiffs like Fulmer and won't bring up Cease.
-
I find it difficult embracing this rebuild/tank. Year after year of losing teams while JR and his investors are laughing all the way to the bank. This White Sox franchise is more profitable today than at anytime in its history. The two previous White Sox owners (John Allyn and Bill Veeck) didn't have the money to compete and both were forced to sell the team. At least both of them wanted winning teams. I don't see that here with JR.
-
This would have been a much better team this year if Kopech and Rodon were in the starting rotation. It will be curious to see what the front office does this off season.
-
Hopefully both Cease and Kopech will be good pitchers in 2020. If not, its going to be another long season. I'm hoping that Cease is brought up this year. (hopefully sooner rather than later) Having Cease up here this year will let him get some experience at the MLB level.

McCann has the 2nd highest batting average on the team and it seems like he's being benched every other day. I'm beginning to wonder if he's even in the future plans of the team. There have been comments on this site about whether Abreu and Colome will be traded at the deadline. I'm beginning to believe that McCann will be traded and the Zavala/Collins era will begin with the White Sox.
-
It would not surprise me if both Abreu and Colome were traded for prospects. The payroll will keep getting smaller and JR and his investors will make more money.

Seby Zavala promoted to Chicago; Castillo to IL
WBWSF replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Whenever Cease is brought up with Rick Hahn he has always said he won't be brought up until he is ready and performs well enough in the Minors and he deserves to be brought up. He has said numerous times he won't bring up anybody to the White Sox unless he deserves it. It sounds real good but its BS. Perfect example is Zavala being called up. I realize that the team needs another catcher after Castillo getting hurt but still if you look at Zavalas hitting records this season they are appalling. His batting average and OBP are terrible. If anything he should probably be demoted. That being said the team has a starting pitching staff that can't get anybody out and Cease is still in the Minors. Its absolutely insane that Cease is not with the White Sox now. Bums like Banuelos are in the starting rotation and Cease is still in the minors waiting to be called up, I've said this before and I will say this again, its almost as if the White Sox are losing on purpose. -
Your heart is in the right place but the changes you want are not going to happen. The franchise is making money hand over fist. As long as it keeps making money JR is happy with his organization. Always remember, Forbes magazine said the White Sox were the 6th most profitable team in 2018.
