Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
WBWSF replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not the least bit upset that the White Sox are a profitable business. I'm glad they're making money. If they weren't making money the franchise would be moved out of state. I'm upset with this ownership/management team. The team hasn't had a winning season since 2012. I sure don't see things getting better soon. This losing year after year is terrible. -
Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again

I will repeat what I said recently. Forbes magazine said the White Sox franchise has a gross of $260 million dollars. The 2018 payroll is $60 million dollars. The 2019 payroll will be less than the 2018 payroll. Even with other expenses this franchise is very profitable. There are at least 3 groups of people that want to buy the White Sox. The major reason why they want to buy the team is simply because they can make money. -
Giolito has no business being on the White Sox team. Fulmer couldn't get anybody out and was sent down. Giolito can't get anybody out and he should be sent down. Roach at least deserved a chance to see how he could do with the White Sox.
-
Donn Roach was 9-2 at Charlotte and was recently named the White Sox Minor League pitcher of the month. He's leaving to go to Japan. I take it he thought he had no future with the White Sox. I guess this means we're going to see Giolito (with his ERA of 7) in the White Sox starting rotation the rest of the season.
-
Interesting lineup/roster you have for 2019. I would agree with your thoughts. I don't think the White Sox are going to spend any money on any free agents. I've always thought that this rebuild would be done as cheaply as possible.
-
Maybe in 2021, or maybe in 2022, or maybe in 2023. Always remember what Bill Veeck said." 5 year plans usually lead to new 5 year plans".

Irrational fondness of a player who completely sucks
WBWSF replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I realize the 2018 White Sox season is a rebuild/tanking/ throw up the white flag season. Still, this Lucas Giolito has to be sent down to the minors. He has pitched one good game the last month and his ERA is almost 7.00 again. It looks like the team is not going to bring up Kopech anytime soon but why not bring up Roach? He has pitched good enough to at least be given a chance with the White Sox. The White Sox finally demoted Fulmer. Its time to demote Giolito. -
30th anniversary of the clocks running backwards

Believe it or not but I had someone who works for the White Sox tell me a few years ago that the one place where they would make more money would be Mexico City. -
30th anniversary of the clocks running backwards

According to Forbes magazine the White Sox are 14th in MLB revenue. If they moved elsewhere I don't think the revenue would match what they're making in Chicago. -

If it wasn't for Illinois Governor Jim Thompson the White Sox would have moved to Florida. Former sports writer Jerome Holtzman said JR took a vote of the White Sox investors and half of them wanted to go to Florida. Eddie Einhorn was walking around with Florida White Sox shirts and he definitely wanted to go to Florida. JR and Einhorn had airline reservations July 1 to sign the official papers to move to Florida. One of the positives of the whole situation was that when the team stayed in Chicago Einhorn sold most of his shares of the White Sox to JR and "Fast Eddie " disappeared from the Chicago scene. I'm looking forward to the day when JR is no longer the owner of the White Sox. I'm just hoping its sooner rather than later. -
I find it ironic that JR fired Larry Himes after the 1990 season and he keeps Hahn as GM. Himes rebuilt the White Sox franchise in 4 years. He added Thomas, Ventura, Mcdowell, Fernandez, Sosa Johnson and Alvarez. After winning 94 games in 1990 JR didn't renew his contract. Hahn has been here 6 long miserable seasons and has not had one winning season and he keeps his job. Some people think the White Sox might not have a winning season until 2021/2022.

Adam Engel now has a higher batting average than Moncada.

Paul Sullivan wrote a column about the White Sox this past Friday. He's not impressed with this rebuild/tanking/throwing up the white flag. He seems to think that this team might not be good until 2021 or maybe even 2022. I hope he's wrong about the time table. If he's right about 2021/2022 will anybody even care about this team at that time?. The 2018 attendance is down 20% from 2017. JR was suppose to be opposed to this rebuild for a long time because he thought it might destroy the franchise. I can't help but wonder if that is going to happen.
-
There's no way Boston makes that trade. Now that I've given this some thought if the White Sox packaged Moncada, Giolito and Fulmer together does anybody think the White sox could get anything of worth in return?
-
Why would WGN TV not want to broadcast baseball? Is it because they don't want to pay more money?
-
The trading deadline is coming up. I would like to think the White Sox will be active. I would think that Hahn will try to improve the team if he can. I would like to see the White Sox trade Moncada and Kopech back to Boston for Chris Sale. Does anybody think Boston would make the trade?
-
I think Hahns contract runs out at the end of the 2019 season. I would like to think if the team isn't improved next season he won't be renewed. At least I hope not.
-
I never said there was a $200 million dollar profit. But there is a huge profit. If you think the White Sox are losing money, you are misinformed. JR would run for his life from this team if it wasn't making money.
-
No the White Sox don't have the revenue of some of the other teams. Still Forbes magazine has said the White Sox gross $260 million dollars. The teams payroll this year is $60 million dollars. The team is 29th in MLB payroll. JR and his investors are laughing all the way to the bank. I expect the 2019 payroll will even be lower.
-
Always remember what Bill Veeck said, "The future is now. 5 year plans usually lead to new 5 year plans".

I've written letters to JR for years. He's even responded to some of my letters in the past. He didn't respond to my letter last year when I requested to be interviewed for the job of White Sox GM. I feel the time is right to write him another letter. Its obvious to everybody that this White Sox season of 2018 is a complete train wreck. I sure don't see any light at the end of the tunnel with this team. I can definitely see this team fighting for last place for years. The team is at the bottom in the standings, attendance and TV ratings. One of his players (Lopez) said yesterday that they're playing like clowns. I think its time for a very drastic change. I'm going to request that he put the team up for sale. I realize he's making nothing but money with this team. Still, at his age how much money does he need? The franchise is a disgrace. We need a new owner here. I know of at least 3 groups of people who want to buy the team. I'm curious to see if he responds to my letter. Better yet, hopefully he'll put the team up for sale.
-
I remember when the 2013 white Sox season collapsed Hahn traded for Avi Garcia which Hahn said was the start of a rebuild. The team has gone nowhere in the 6 years Hahn has been the GM. He should thank his lucky stars he still has his job. If he had been the GM in virtually every MLB city he would of been fired by now.

1) Older White Sox fans remember how Robin Ventura didn't do well his 1990 rookie season. Ventura turned it around his second season. Moncada is struggling this year. Hopefully he will start to do better the rest of the season. What troubles me about him is his bad defense. Hes making errors on ordinary ground balls. I can't help but wonder, if Moncada is this bad next year will the White Sox go in another direction at second base? 2) Bruce Levine said on the radio this morning he expects Jimenez to be brought up to the White Sox in another 3-4 weeks. If he's brought up I hope provides a spark to this team. This team is really hard to watch.

I had a interesting conversation with a Cubs fan this morning. He maintains that Theo Epstein wants to own a MLB team. I was thinking that if we had the good fortune of JR putting the White Sox up for sale, wouldn't it be something if Epstein bought the White Sox? Epstein has produced winning teams at every stop he has been. I would think that most White Sox fans would welcome him with open arms if he became the White Sox owner.

"The Commander", Bob Elson was the 3rd announcer inducted into the HOF. He was heartbroken when the White Sox didn't rehire him after the 1970 season.
