The White Sox are making nothing but money but still this off season could have gone a lot better. The FO won't spend money on premier free agents but will spend and waste millions of dollars on stiffs. This has gone on for years.
-
After the White Flag trade, which was a PR disaster, the team drew 1.3 million for each of the 1998 + 1999 seasons. I wonder what the attendance will be this 2019 season. I take it that alot of White Sox fans are upset by whats happened recently. The only way the attendance could be decent this year is if they get off to a good start. And looking at the starting rotation I don't see that happening.

There is no hope for the Chicago White Sox (the thread?)

The players you just mentioned are the teams only hope. If they produce this nightmare can turnaround. If they don't come thru the team is in bad shape. -
Why you should not want Reinsdorf to sell the SOX
WBWSF replied to 59th street's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Have JR sell the team and I will take my chances with the new owners. I would guess that the new owners would bring in some decent players to help turn this team around. When JR bought the team in 1981 he signed Luzinski, Fisk and Floyd Bannister. It helped change the image of the franchise. I would think the new owners would do the same thing. If anything a new owner would provide some hope for the future. This appears to be a hopeless situation under this ownership. Its a shame we didn't have new owners this off season. I would of rather had the new owners trying to sign Machado and Harper instead of our present FO. -
If the 2019 season turns out like the 2018 season I would like to think Hahn won't be at the next Soxfest simply because he will be in the unemployment line.
-
Am I missing something here? Is there any evidence whatsoever that the White Sox are even trying to sign Harper?
-
Happy Birthday JR. At your age I'm sure you don't care about getting any presents. So why not give White Sox fans a big present. Put the White Sox up for sale.

Donn Roach starting ST game is current Chisox.com headline?

It's going to be another season "Mired In Mediocrity". -
I never thought for one minute that the White Sox would sign a premium free agent. I've always thought that this rebuild/tanking would be done as cheaply as possible. White Sox fans just have to hope that these young players come through. This comes off to me as if the FO hopes these young guys start producing and if they don't, they don't. In the meantime JR and the investors are laughing all the way to the bank. The 2019 White Sox payroll is actually lower than what it was in 2009. And the franchise is bringing in more money than what it did in 2009. Say what you want about JR, but he sure knows how to make money.

JR and the entire front office.
-
I would think that both of them will be gone as soon as possible. And if this season is going to be as bad as 2018 maybe Hahn will be gone also.
-
If San Diego had signed Machado last month imagine how Soxfest would have been this year. I wonder if Hahn would have even showed up to face the fans. Keep in mind that after the White Flag trade was made, White Sox GM Ron Schueler didn't show up at Soxfest a few months later. He was too chicken to face the Sox fans.

Believe me JR could care less what the fan base thinks. Everybody knew he was going to make the White Flag trade years ago and everybody was upset that JR gave up on the season after only being out of first place by a few games. The fans were outraged by the White Flag Trade. He could of cared less then and could care less now. The franchise is making nothing but money. That's all he cares about. I read something interesting today that the 2019 White Sox payroll will be much less than it was in the 2009 season. The franchise is grossing more money today than it was in 2009 and yet the payroll is much smaller today. He owns 2 franchises and both teams are no good and yet he's laughing all the way to the bank. Somebody asked me a question yesterday, What team will have a winning season first, the Bulls or the White Sox? Its a tough question to answer.

He might be the most loyal executive in MLB BUT only if you get along with him and kiss his rear end. He didn't get along with a lot of people and they were gone as soon as possible. Some of the people he didn't get along with were Harry Caray, Jimmy Piersall, Larry Himes, Carlton Fisk. Dick Allen and writer Bill Gleason. JR not only didn't get along with these guys but JR bad mouthed all of them publicly at one time or another. The one that baffled me was his lack of friendship with writer Bill Gleason. Gleason was the only sportswriter in Chicago who was a lifelong White Sox fan. Gleason had no use for either JR or Einhorn. So yeah JR is loyal to some people but not everybody.

Bad enough that Machado wasn't signed but the starting rotation could turn out to be the worse rotation in the teams modern history. I wish they would have added some decent starting pitching.
-
Hahns contract runs out after the 2019 season. I figure after another dismal season he will be gone. The only way he should be brought back by the White Sox is as a peanut vendor.
-
1) This has become the biggest PR disaster the White Sox has had since the White Flag Trade. The attendance for the following 2 seasons was 1.2 million each season after the trade. The team didn't start drawing decently again until the 2000 season when they won the division. Last years attendance was 1.6 million. I would think its going to be alot lower this coming season. 2) Hahn has said that the money not spent on Machado will be spent eventually. Will it be spent on decent players ? Or will it be put in the owner/investors pockets and spent by them?

Now that I've had a chance to think about things...
WBWSF replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not surprised how this has turned out. I never thought JR would sign any big time free agent. I've thought from the beginning of this rebuild/tanking that this would be done as cheaply as possible. So far I've been right. -
Can't tell you but I will tell you that there are at least 3 groups of people who want to buy the White Sox.
-
I was told today that JRs White Sox investors are pressuring him to sell the team ASAP. They're not young men anymore and they want their money. It could happen this year. I hope so.

Who is available in 2020? Looking ahead to the future
WBWSF replied to BigSexy23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The White Sox have never lost 100 games two seasons in a row. The 2019 team looks like it could lose 100 games again. But JR and his investors will still laugh all the way to the bank. -

This has to be the biggest PR disaster the franchise has had since the White Flag Trade. I wonder what if anything the FO is going to do now. -
Updated with $/WAR: Every Hahn MLB Free Agent Signing since 2012/2013
WBWSF replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hahn won't spend $300 million on Machado but will waste millions of dollars on some of the stiffs you listed. He is the least successful GM in the modern history of the franchise and he keeps his job. His contract runs out after the 2019 season. Hopefully 2019 will be his last year as the GM. -
Curly was great. There is nothing great about the White Sox FO.
-
I'm still hoping we have new ownership by 2020. Would anybody care if JR and his front office were gone from the scene? I remember when Veeck sold the team after the 1980 season. Every White Sox fan was glad to see Veeck gone. I would think White Sox fans would feel the same way if JR was gone.
