  1. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) Right....because Rick (The Cub Fan) Hahn is trying to destroy the team for all eternity! Robertson sure would have propelled the Sox into playoff contention in 2018...you betcha! I've heard Steve stone and Frank Thomas both say that they think the White Sox starting rotation could really be good AND soon. If Fulmer, Kopech, Lopez, Giolito and Rodon actually all pitch well in 2018 this team could be a team that can surprise people. That being said, who does the team have in the bullpen to save games? I viewed the Robertson trade as nothing but a salary dump. I would had Robertson stay on the team instead of what the team has in the bullpen now.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/941689422109659136 Dang. Pretty sure we are only going to go after the bullpen scraps left in january. Trading David Robertson was another stupid move by Hahn last summer.
  3. I listened to the WSCR BB show this morning. I usually don't listen to the station but when I found out White Sox manager Rick Renteria was going to be on the show, I decided to listen in. I got the impression he wouldn't be too thrilled with either Garcia or Abreu being traded. It should be a interesting week coming up at the winter meetings.
  4. I just read where 53 year old Rafael Palmeiro wants to make a comeback this upcoming 2018 season. Hahn will sign him for his MLB leadership abilities. Hahn likes having a team with ex Cubs on it.
  5. QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) Does anybody else think they may look at the market on Mike Moustakas? As it stands the White Sox really don't have a 3rd baseman. He is going into free agency on the younger side at 29 years old and won't command a long contract. If the price gets dropped to 5/70 million maybe with some dollars front loaded to add more appeal wouldn't the White Sox have to consider. The last year he would be playing at age 33 which means you should be getting mostly prime years. He was an above average defender until last year when he became just slightly below which could have been an off year defensively. Travis Sawhik wrote an interesting article coming to the conclusion that his power is real and could probably play even better in our park compared to a stadium like Kauffman that is a pitchers park. Next years crop of 3Bs to me is not very good beyond Machado and Donaldson. I never put any stock in us actually being contenders next year for Manny Machado as the dollars and years would scare the Sox off. Josh Donaldson would be going into the following year at 33. I think this would allow Jake Burger to take his time in the minors like we are doing with Collins. The White Sox could see how he develops, move either Burger or Moustakas when Abreu's contract is up. It would be a wonderful move to sign him. But the fact is they're not going to spend any big money on any quality free agent. The objective for 2018 is to have the lowest payroll in MLB.
  6. 1) Hahn trades both Garcia and Abreu. 2) Hahn then announces that he will bring back Adam Laroche and Jeff Keppinger and they will bat in the middle of the order for 2018.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 05:10 AM) Manny Machado isn't exactly low hanging fruit. The next time the Sox give out a huge contract for many years without an out of some kind will be their 1st. We'll all see what Reinsdorf is made of when the time comes, if he is still alive. I wonder what happens to the rebuild if Reinsdorf suddenly passes away ? Anyway it's really hard to make an argument for a 10 yr deal because it usually ends up crippling the team financially while all the prospects are now grown up and leaving. The window of opportunity is small . Houston and the Cubs made it look easy but failures are much more prominent since only one team a year is the ultimate winner .We'll see how the Sox go about the business of filling remaining holes or if they will perpetually keep creating new ones or do the whole 2nd tier FA thing and hope for better luck than before. It's one thing to give Luis Robert money, you get all his minor league years and major league time for 6 years so that's about 10 years and relatively cheap if he is productive in his time in the majors. It's quite another thing to pay for past performance and expect it to continue for another 8-10 years when half the contract ends up being in declining/injury years . If JR suddenly passes away OR decides to sell the team the new owner will try to sign some free agents to try and stimulate some interest in the team. JR did that when he bought the team in 1981 when he signed Fisk and Luzinski.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) LMAO. Go check out how well DeBartolo's Pittsburgh Penquins did while he owned them. They did win one championship, then he sold. They were Bill Wirtz Blackhawks for most of his 14 years. But I'm sure if he had bought the White Sox, everything would have been peaches and cream. I wish DeBartolo would have bought the White Sox. His ownership could not have been as bad as JRs ownership. Amongst other things DeBartolo was going to build a new stadium for the White Sox with his own money. It probably would have been next to a new shopping center. He made his money building shopping centers. He was also aware of how popular Harry Caray was with White Sox fans. Caray would have finished his career with the White Sox if DeBartolo had owned the team.
  9. I don't know when Hahn said the team wouldn't be contending until 2020. But if he actually said that and meant that I just want it to be known that statement actually depresses me. That just confirms my thoughts that this team is going to be crummy for the next few seasons. And it will be a team with a very low payroll. Always remember, low payroll = more moola for JR and his investors.
  10. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) You are probably right about that, and I think that would be a mistake. This team should be ready by 2019. Trading Garcia and Abreu would seem to indicate that the team has no intentions of competing for anything the next few years. Instead we'll have lousy teams with low payrolls and mucho profits for JR and his investors. Then in another 4 years the team will start another 5 year rebuild. Always remember what Bill Veeck said, "5 year plans usually lead to a new 5 year plan".
  11. 1) White Sox Opening Day Payrolls. 2017=$95 million. 2016=$98 million. 2015=$115 million. 2014=$91 million. 2013=$119 million. 2012 = $96 million. 2011= $129 million. 2010= $108 million. 2009=$96 million. 2008= $121 million. 2) I keep reading that the 2018 White Sox payroll will be around $75 million. Forbes magazine has said that the White Sox franchise brings in about $250 million dollars. The 2018 White Sox will be one of the most profitable teams in MLB. More moola for JR.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 11, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) It's not about his not spending, it's that is not the right fit and this is an albatross of a contract. I'm not going to say it wouldn't be cool to see Giancarlo Stanton in a Sox uniform, because it would, but there is such little in the way of reward with so much more risk. It's not worth it. The Sox payroll was up around $150-170 million like 3 years ago, or did you forget about that? The Sox are young and the team isn't that good, this is not the time to spend. The highest payroll the White Sox have had was in 2011 when it was $129 million. The second highest was $121 million in 2008. They have never had a payroll of $150 million and never will as long as JR owns the team.
  13. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Nov 11, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) I wonder if Reinsdorf's history of not spending is the only reason the Sox have not come up in any of these articles about possible landing spots for Stanton. They have the prospect depth to get it done without mortgaging the future and will have virtually no money on the books once Shields is gone, which should at least make them worth mentioning. JR is not going to spend money on Stanton or anybody else this off season. White Sox Math=low payroll=more profits=more moola for JR.
  14. I always look forward to the seminars with the players and front office personal. I've always found attending a seminar with Hahn very interesting. I've seen his act a number of times at Soxfest and at Season ticket seminars. You'll notice that when somebody asks him a question, more often than not, he won't answer the question, he'll just ramble on and continue talking. I can see how he obtained his law degree. He's very good at talking without saying anything of any substance. I just wish he would have worked for some law firm instead of being a GM for the White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) Because next years free agent class is significantly better than this years, and why lose picks this year for lesser players that will make you marginally better? It isnt hard to figure out, but you just want to dive right back into the mediocrity that we suffered through from 2007 through 2016 Next years free agent class might be better and those players will be super expensive. Does anybody really think that JR is going to throw out big money for them?
  16. So the White Sox are not going to sign any free agents this off season. Instead they're going to wait until after the 2018 season to sign anybody good. If you can make the team better for the upcoming season, why not sign good players now?. Wouldn't the team be better off signing Moustakas, Reed and JD Martinez now? I realize there not going to sign any of these players and the team will "mired in mediocrity" for another season.
  17. I'm still hoping that I wake up in the morning this off season and find out that JR has sold the team. Hopefully when JR leaves he can take Hahn with him.
  18. QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 08:42 AM) Your post is bad and you should feel bad.My post is bad because Hahn has done a bad job as the White Sox GM.
  19. If I were Rick Hahn I would have resigned as the White Sox GM. He has been the worse GM in modern White Sox history. (post 1951) He has been a flop as the GM. Between his lousy drafts, trades and free agent signings he should hang his head in shame and leave the scene. Being a lifelong Cubs fan he should try to hook up for another job at Wrigley Field.
  20. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Why would a rebuilding team sign a guy like Reed to a long term contract?1) Reed is only 29 years old. 2) Reed is better than anybody the team has now in the bullpen, which isn't saying much. This has now become the worse White Sox bullpen since 1970.
  21. I've read where the Orioles will offer Manny Machado a big contract this off season. Baltimore has indicated that if he turns down their offer they will probably trade him. That being said, I hope the White Sox offer Garcia a long term contract. If he turns it down, trade him. I hope Garcia remains a member of the White Sox. After the White Sox sign Garcia I'm hoping they sign Addison Reed and JD Martinez to long term contracts.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 05:33 PM) You are definitely the man, Lip Man, but I hate to see JR make a ton of money on teams this bad. Aren't you offended that he and his partners get all this $$$ while the fan has to pay 8 or 9 bucks, whatever it is for a hot dog and whatever it is for parking? I think Jerry should feel the pain of a rebuild as well as the fans. I'd hate a $15 million payroll knowing JR gets all that profit. I think throughout his tenure there could be an argument he is cheap. I'm amazed so many fans seem to think the lower the payroll the better. It's like any significant contract is scorned right now during the rebuild. The Sox aren't moving as we have discussed ad nauseum so why shouldn't the Sox owner make less profit and have a high payroll to go with the Robert signing? Jerry should buy you frugal people a few drinks at least this offseason. He should meet you in the bar and thank u for your position. I'm serious by the way. A lot of cities would run an owner out of town for not having a high payroll in a city as big as Chicago. JR bidded on buying the New York Mets before he bought the White Sox. I wish he would have been successful in his bid for the Mets. Unfortunately it didn't turn out that way. If he would have been the owner of the Mets and been as bad an owner in New York as he has been with the White Sox, the New York media would have dumped all over him.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 11:07 PM) Yes. I wanted them to buy free agents the way they did in the past. They've never given the 7 year mega mega deal but they have acquired some free agents. For instance, Dye signed a two year deal. I forget what Rios signed, but I didn't like him. Dye worked out; guys like him. I mean I still don't care about Jerry's money, but even I don't like the 7 year deals. David Robertson signed a 4 year deal with the Sox. There are nuff of those kind of signings that I wanted to keep us competitive rather than a total rebuild. Dunn signed a four-year deal; that would have been good but he had that one historially bad season before he got his act together. Now if we could sign Hosmer for 4 years, he's young enough. But I don't want 7-8 years. But do you see what I am saying? I see no need for Jerry baby to have a 50 million dollar payroll next year, even if he did sign Robert. Milwaukee had the lowest MLB team payroll on this past Opening Day with $63 million dollars. The 2018 White sox team payroll will be the lowest payroll in MLB.It will be much less than $63 million dollars. After the trade of Avi Garcia and probably Abreu the payroll will be less than $40 million. Always remember, low payroll=big profits=more moola for JR.
  24. I absolutely believe that JR cares about nothing but moola. He use to talk in the past how profitable it was to own the White Sox with a low payroll. And believe me the team will have a very low payroll in 2018. If you think my comments are bad about JR, you should hear the comments of people I know who are Bulls season ticket holders. My comments are tame compared to theirs.
  25. Avi becomes a free agent at the end of the 2019 season. If Hahn doesn't sign him to a long term contract this off season it presents some bad possibilities. Lets say Avi has another good season in 2018 and he's not signed to a long term contract. He'll be looking at some serious money once he becomes a free agent after 2019. There's no way Hahn/JR is going to give Avi a gigantic contract. Everything points to him being traded this off season. I keep hearing that the 2018 team payroll will be less than $40 million dollars. Low payroll=more profits=more moola in JRs pocket.
