The team is not going to sign anybody for any type of big money. The objective seems to have one of the lowest if not lowest payroll in MLB entering the 2018 season. I'm still hoping that this is JRs way of selling the team. It's alot easier to sell a team that has a low payroll with no long term big contracts on the books. That was the exact situation JR had when he bought the team from Veeck.

Tigers fans have to be sad about his passing. He did everything he could to bring a winning baseball team to Detroit. I wish he would have owned the White Sox.

Its been reported that the Miami Marlins are going to be sold for some serious money. ($1.6 Billion) I don't know how the Marlins fans feel about that but I sure wish that the White Sox were getting a new owner. It would be page one news. I doubt that many White Sox fans. would care if JR sold the team. If anything it would provide some hope for the future. This hopeless situation would change in a matter of a year. I would like to think that if the Marlins are sold for that type of money the White Sox can probably be sold for that much. I would absolutely love to see it happen.

1) 60-102. This will be a train wreck of a season. It will be the start of one of the worse eras in team history. 2018 will be worse. I'm hoping JR sells the team after this season. After Frazier, Cabrera and Lawrie are gone after this season the 2018 team payroll will be the lowest in MLB. It will be the perfect scenario for JR to sell the team. The new owner will have the lowest payroll with no big long term contracts on the books. JR bought the team from Bill Veeck in 1981 under the same circumstances. 2) I try to listen to White Sox Weekly every Saturday on WLS-AM. I find it interesting that the host rarely takes calls from the fans. Last week he had some guest on and they both said they expect JR to spend some big money on some premier free agents in the future. (Harper + others) JR hasn't signed a top free agent since Albert Belle. They're dreaming if they think he's going to start doing it next season. I would think a new owner would sign some players before JR would.
-
Hopefully he won't be on the team in 2017. He can't hit, field or throw anybody out. He's a bum. Having him as the starting catcher should tell everybody what type of a team the White Sox will have in 2017. I'm real curious to see what the advertising campaign is going to be this year. Maybe it will be "Wait til next year".

Rumor has it that the White Sox are trying to sign Matt Wieters. I would think that if this is going to happen it would happen this week right before Soxfest.

Not a Typical Rebuild According to White Sox
WBWSF replied to Thomas_Ventura_Roberts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 21, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) It's called a rebuild bro, they're supposed to suck. They can call it a rebuild, I call it a train wreck. They have nobody in the farm system to help their every day lineup at 3B, Catcher, Dh, and all 3 outfield positions. This so called REBUILD has all the potential of lasting for many years. -
Not a Typical Rebuild According to White Sox
WBWSF replied to Thomas_Ventura_Roberts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The 2017 White Sox team is going to be a train wreck. The team has 4 major holes at catcher, CF, Rf and DH. Plus they just traded one of the best pitchers in MLB (Sale). They have done NOTHING to improve this team this off season. After Frazier + Cabrera leave after the 2017 season the 2018 White Sox team will even be worse than the 2017 team. My only hope for the team is that after the 2018 season (hopefully before that) JR sells the team. -
The only reason that I would join this year is to get the Carlton Fisk bobblehead that they are offering.

Konerko had a much better career than Ron Santo. The problem is that Konerko will not have the PR that Santo did. The Cubs organization and Cubs tv+radio stations promoted Santo for the HOF for years. Konerko will never have that same type of thing going for him. The only thing that made me happy about Santo getting into the HOF is that he didn't live to see it.
-
After Quintana gets traded the team signs NOBODY. You will be looking at a team losing at least 100 games this year. I expect it to be even worse in 2018 after Frazier + Cabrera leave. I read where the team will have a guaranteed payroll of only $35 million dollars entering the 2018 season. I'm still hoping the team has new ownership by then.

Uh-oh...Harrelson wants to hold on until 2020
WBWSF replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Very few, if any broadcasters retire on their own. Most of them stick around as long as possible. What else are they going to do after they leave the broadcasting booth? Very few of them have any other type of career to go back to after broadcasting. And where else are they going to make the money that they're making broadcasting games? I always thought that both Bob Elson and Harry Caray stuck around too long. -
Soxfest like attendance at the park will be a ghost town the next few years. I haven't decided if I'm going to go. It shouldn't be hard to obtain tickets.
-
As of now this team is much worse than the 2016 White Sox. They've lost Sale and Eaton. They have not added a catcher, DH or another outfielder. It would be a miracle if this team became a contender. I don't believe in miracles.
-
Trading off their major pieces is another low point in JRs ownership. At least the White Flag Trade was somewhat justified because they were going to lose the players they traded at the end of the year. Sale + Eaton were tied up for years. And their contracts were very team friendly. It was absolutely nuts to trade them for prospects. I see years of real bad teams on the SouthSide of Chicago. I hope I'm wrong.
-
I don't want to see this team losing for years just to get a high draft choice. How many of those high draft choices turn out to be good? (Remember Jared Mitchell?) I've been told by numerous people that JR hates losing. It'll be curious to see how he reacts if this team keeps losing for years. I still think the team is going to be sold within 3 years. By that time this team won't have any big contracts on the books. It's alot easier to sell a team if it doesn't have any big contracts to payout.

Assessing the White Sox Future and Hawk's Announcing Future
WBWSF replied to The Gooch's topic in Pale Hose Talk
After the 2017 White Sox lose over 100 games, Hawk will retire and ride off into the sunset. He won't want to be a part of a team that resembles the new version of the St. Louis Browns. -
1)I read where a couple of the pitching prospects the White Sox received the past few days have already had arm injuries. This is what we gave up 2 of our best players for. I wish I could put a better spin on this situation but I can't. I'm really worried that this franchise is going to return to the days of the 1968-1970 White Sox teams. I figure after a couple of 100 loss seasons we might be hearing rumblings of the franchise moving out of state and most people won't care if they leave. 2) I grew up in a family of White Sox fans and Chicago Cardinals fans. My older relatives always talked how the Chicago Cardinals traded off their best players in the late 1950s for bums. They traded future Hall of Famers Ollie Matson and Night Train Lane for a bunch of stiffs. The team was so bad during the 1950s (they averages 2 wins a year during the 1950s) that when they moved to St. Louis there was no sense of loss in the Chicagoland area. 3) I keep reading that the team is going to trade Quintana, Abreu, Cabrera, Robertson and Frazier. I have no doubt if that happens this team might challenge the 1962 Mets as the worse team ever in modern history. Maybe some people want to see this, but I sure don't. This team will become as bad as a expansion team. 4) Some people have posted that the new TV contract comes up before the 2019 season. After 2 bad 2017+2018 seasons does anybody really think that some TV station is going to give the White Sox a big TV contract? 5) I hope my above comments don't depress some people. Believe me, I want nothing better than to be wrong about my feelings. I really fear for the worse for this White Sox franchise. I simply don't see any light at the end of the tunnel.

1) After the White Sox lose over 100 games during the 2017+2018 seasons, what free agent is going to want to play for the White Sox? The only way that happens is if the White Sox overpay for some players. Under JR that 's not going to happen. Hopefully the White Sox will have new ownership by then. 2) I talked to a friend of mine who knows alot about tax laws. I thought that JR wouldn't sell the team now because of taxes. My friend told me that the tax laws have changed and the taxes wouldn't be any different if he sold the team now rather than after he passes away. Maybe JR sells the team before he passes away and doesn't want his family to have the tax burden later. 3) When JR bought the team in 1981 he bought a team from Bill Veeck that didn't have any big time contracts on it. I read somewhere that there are no big contracts on this team going into the 2018 season. That should make it easier and more attractive for a new buyer/owner. 4) These next 2 seasons are going to be a total train wreck. This will probably turn out to be some of the darkest years in the franchise history. My only hope is that we get a new ownership to buy the team.

I see the 2017 White Sox team with one of the worse offenses in MLB. Runs are going to be scarce this year. If they trade Frazier + Abreu things will only get worse. The team has already made 2 trades neither of which has improved the team offensively for the 2017 season. The 2016 team scored 3 or less runs in half their games. Does anybody think it will be better in 2017? I certainly don't see the team signing any free agents like EE from Toronto. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 2017 payroll half of what it was in 2016.
-
The White Sox organization haven't been doing everything they can to win. Signing LaRoche and Dunn isn't exactly going for it. It would have been better to sign premier free agents like Cespedes. Wasn't Albert Belle the last big name free agent signed for BIG money by the team? They'll spend millions of dollars on Keppinger, Avi Garcia and Lawrie but won't give big money to decent ballplayers. If this team goes to complete hell this 2017 season I wouldn't be surprised to see this team draw less than one million fans this year. I read elsewhere that one of the pitching prospects the team wants from Washington has already had arm problems. Do they really think he can replace Sale in the rotation? I'm not one to preach doom and gloom but I don't see anything good coming from this so called rebuid.
-
I don't know how any White Sox fan could be pleased with trading Sale and Abreu for prospects. This whole situation scares me to death. I can easily see this team losing over 100 games FOR YEARS if these trades are made. I think its madness to do that. It would be much easier to add to this team rather than subtract/rebuild. Trading off their best players for prospects could turn this franchise into its worse era since the 1930s. I hope I'm wrong about this but that's how I see it. If anybody thinks this team is irrelevant now in the Chicagoland area, it will only get worse after a few 100 loss seasons.
-
Dunt: I agree with you 100%. Add a couple of hitters (Puig & Wieters or EE), Keep Sale + Quintana and go for it.
-
The White Sox keep both Sale and Quintana. They then trade either Robertson or Jones to LA for Puig. They then sign Matt Weiters to catch for the team.
-
The White Sox have acquired bad NL talent like Jackson, Keppinger Dunn and LaRoche. The team would have been better off signing a expensive major talent like Cespedes.
