  1. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Yes. Remember he is ONLY 21.
  2. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin now White Sox request waivers on Brett Lawrie Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 31s #WhiteSox have requested waivers on Brett Lawrie for purpose of granting him his unconditional release.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 07:19 AM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/217383778/to...y-mlb-pipeline/ I'll guess that the Sox come in at #3.
  4. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) The NHL actually has a pretty well developed minor league system in the AHL Young players typically need to spend several seasons at that level before being ready to play in the NHL. I would not consider that a great example. The NBA D-League is pretty much a joke, so I think that applies to a league that doesn't really have a developed minor league system. Same with the NFL. Yeah most of the TOP TOP draft talent in the NHL (Matthews, Laine, Tkachuk just using 2016 draft as an example) skip playing there entirely while most, like you said spend time in the AHL/Juniors/College/Euro teams. I was trying to give greg the benefit of the doubt on the topic.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 10:00 PM) So how old do you have to be? The Royals have some slugger, Peter O'Brien, that was a second round pick and they acquired him this offseason from the Dbacks. He's 26. And I was reading he needs another full year in the minors. At 26?? Geez, you either can do it or you can't. Do people really believe Beckham was ruined by being rushed? I mean cmon. If that's true, that's pretty crazy. He's had a ton of MLB experience and frankly, he sucks. He every so often got on a tear when he ripped to all fields. Most of the time he was abysmal. If it is because he was rushed I'm amazed. Actually Beckham's best year might have been the 430 plate appearances he got at age 22. He hit .270 with a .347 OBP. 63 RBIs. After that initial burst he pretty much stunk. Either the scouts blew it on him or his refusal to hit to all fields turned him into a stiff. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/donaljo02.shtml Take a look at Josh Donaldson's age/stats throughout his career. Offensively in the minors he never really lit the world on fire but was solid. Even at the time he was traded by the Cubs I believe he wasn't the headliner by far, even considered to be a throw-in. He changed positions, added a leg kick in his swing I believe and everything clicked later in his career at 26. Obviously this is an outlier, but it does happen. I'm not saying Davidson will turn out to be like this, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. See what you got in the kids, it's a rebuild. If they're bad they're bad, you learn and move on.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) The Beckham topic is a pet peeve for me. I think it's totally absurd to blame Beckham's lousy career on rushing him. This is a tired cliche. I mean some sports you don't need any time in a "minor league." Have any sabes people done studies on whether this "rushing a player" phenomenon actually has ruined players' careers? I mean you either can hit big-league pitching or you can't. Beckham sadly fizzed. If he's smart though he's set for life. He made enough dough to be set for life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Clyde This is just one name that came to mind for me, as I'm sure there are plenty of others out there. While this is true in certain sports (NHL, NBA {NCAAF is practically the minor leagues}), baseball isn't one of those. Players are all different, some learn and adjust significantly quicker than others, some take much longer to develop, but each case would be unique and needs to be handled individually. Putting someone in a situation that they aren't necessarily ready for would be detrimental to development and confidence. Not everyone can be thrown to the wolves because "you can either hit big league pitching or you can't".
  7. Chicago White Sox @whitesox now Nate Jones suffered a bruised right knee. He is day to day.
  8. Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 10s Nate Jones took a one-hopper off his right knee and limped off the field. #WhiteSox
  9. Ben Badler article links White Sox to Luis Robert
  10. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) "Logically backwards? " LOL. Illogical would be another way to put it. Calling up our top prospects to platoon them before they're ready is illogical.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) I am quite ok with his years of suck at AAA telling me everything I need to konw. Like I said, he'll probably be bad (due to track record that you pointed out), but to say he was so bad that he didn't get the chance to fail at the Major League level is a bit short-sighted considering the injury. That's all I'm saying.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Literally the only difference between Avi and Davidson is Davidson wasn't even good enough to get the chance to fail at the major league level. I mean he did get his call up last year only to break his foot day 1. Odds are he won't be good, but we'll never know if he would've actually been given a real look last year since the opportunity was snatched away so quickly.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 09:41 PM) Huh? It's from the good old days, Mark Buehrle Is Not An Ace.
  14. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin Hahn said he was offered Schwarber and Baez for Quintana ... by a TSA agent at O'Hare . Never progressed past that interaction in case anyone needed a good laugh today...
  15. Jayson Stark @jaysonst 32s A team that has been talking with the White Sox says they've been waiting for Nats to sign Wieters to rekindle David Robertson trade talks
  16. Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo now As many have pointed out, Wieters deal also gives Nats room to trade Pedro Severino in a deal for a reliever like David Robertson.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) Lol why is Adam Dunn on the banner? I thought you were joking until I actually looked at it.....it definitely gave me a chuckle.
  18. Matt Eddy @MattEddyBA 55s #WhiteSox sign LHP Tyler Matzek to a minors deal. The 2009 first-rounder pitched for #Rockies in 2014-15 but spent 16 as reliever in minors
  19. Chicago White Sox @whitesox 17s .@CarlosSan29 will now be known as Yolmer Sanchez, which is his given first name.
  20. Chris Cotillo retweeted dgoold's avatar Derrick Goold @dgoold 1m Alex Reyes, after review, will have a Tommy John surgery, #cardinals affirm. Paletta will do surgery here in Jupiter.
  21. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan now There is significant concern inside the Cardinals' organization that Alex Reyes, their star pitching prospect, needs Tommy John surgery. More speculation coming now, we shall see how the Cards react.
  22. MLB retweeted LangoschMLB's avatar Jenifer Langosch @LangoschMLB 1m #STLCards have not specified what the area of concern is with Reyes, but Matheny did say: "There must be a significant reason to do this."
  23. MLB Pipeline retweeted LangoschMLB's avatar Jenifer Langosch @LangoschMLB 2m Alex Reyes had an MRI on his pitching arm today. #STLCards do not yet know the results.
