I'm hoping after this miserable season that the baseball gods will show mercy on us and have the lottery balls land the Sox outside of the top 6. However, I know that won't happen and they'll slide down to sixth, finish with the third worst record next season or some s%*# like that and mathematically "win" the 2025 lottery but don't because they can't pick higher than 10th.

Seems like a part of it (how much I don't actually know) is $ motivated.

They've spent more on worse before, I'd be down for the cheap gamble there

They can always cut bait on the fat of the 40-man when needed. It doesn’t seem very likely that anyone else is at risk of being selected and kept on a major league roster all year long, at least that's how they're viewing it, and I'd have to tend to agree with that assessment. They aren't burning option years unnecessarily either, which isn't nothing.

I'd bet the Sox are hosting their Winter Fest on the 9th green at 9 to really stick it to the last handfuls of fans.

The latest Garfien Podcast: What is a "Spa Day"?
Sleepy Harold replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I believe spa day is short for spaghetti day, I see no issue here. -
It's all in the first post here.

Sure that would obviously be a bad outcome in what would further the darkest timeline of White Sox fandom. I just don't believe a team would select and keep a fringey LF/DH on a ML roster all year long. If they add him to the 40 that's great, I like Veras and given the circumstances of the roster there should be enough space, I just don't think he'd be selected.
-
I'd add Eder and Mena and call it a day. I like Veras but don't think another team would select him in the ML portion. There's enough fat on the 40-man that adding him is fine, I just think the likelihood of a selection is low.

Going to need to keep this on the first page all offseason long. I wonder if we can get this to more pages than the fire Rick thread.

Sox to Pursue DeJong per Sox Machine
Sleepy Harold replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It would at least make them (Sosa & Popeye) earn the spot rather than just give it to them, which is different than the previous regime. If Sosa/Popeye are playing well and the placeholders (predictably) stink, then you shuffle them out and let the kids cook. While 100% unsexy additions, I don't mind them insulating the prospects a bit. -
2024 Offseason Plan - "Try" to Compete Edition

He says it in this clip. It was good to hear because all of us don't like this team either CG. -

Soxtalk pod cast and their opinion of Anderson
Sleepy Harold replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The sign old guys thing now has at least shifted to "culture" guys since Pedro can't run a clubhouse or w.e. (they rip on him plenty), but they have said that they want prospects to earn/win jobs instead of just being handed them like Colas essentially was last year. There's always going to be some meatball in that podcast given what it is, but with the way the last two seasons have gone they've cranked up the realism. -
Soxtalk pod cast and their opinion of Anderson

There are definitely meatball moments still, but they've been significantly less "puppies and rainbows" on the Sox for a while, McGuffey especially. -
