No argument from me on the team not signing a real RFer. I would've rather signed him than trot Gavin and the rotating mess of suck out there, but he's still a poor defender at the position, which is something that a couple nice plays in October doesn’t wash away.
If you ignore his advanced defensive metrics from this season (entire career TBH) and base your defensive evaluation on a couple plays from October then you may be cooking.
I can't find any posted but I did find that he generated seven swings & misses in his first start, five in his second, and nine his most recent outing.
I do find it interesting that they included in the release that CJ & Hasler have been "offered" positions in PD. Obviously no guarantee that they accept, but seems like they're still deciding if they want the roles or can find better gigs elsewhere. I don't recall seeing something like that in a Sox press release before.
Absolutely, they're idiocy knows no bounds. Appeasing Pedro by entertaining this ridiculous move would be the cherry on top of this turd sandwich of an org.
It makes sense that the Royals wouldn't want to give him away, but no team SHOULD part with anything of substantial value for an aging catcher that doesn't hit or catch particularly well at this point in time.
