  1. Ugh. They just can’t leave well enough alone, can they?
  2. I think in Tim’s case (as well as others like Lorenzo Cain), not being plugged into the system early on meant they could develop their own approach to playing that suited themselves best. As a 16-19 year old you are more likely to understand what works well for you than when you are a 10-14 year old. Conversely, you also have a better idea of which “conventional” ideas don’t work for you. LIke trying to draw more walks, for instance. As others have said, TA worked his ass off to get to this point and should be credited for finding his own way to get here.
  3. With due respect, so? If a team doesn’t want to be out of it by June or July, play better. If I am ever elected Czar of Sports, one of the first rules I would enact is that no more than 25% of teams in any sport can make the playoffs. That is one of the things I love about baseball, it is damn hard to make the playoffs. At that point, any team that wins it all is deserving. For 2020, it’s ok, though they should be seeding the non-division winners by record. After this year, go back to what works.
  4. This is what ticked me off about that decision: RR thought it was more important to be able to score more runs in a half inning that was unlikely to happen than it was to protect the 2-run lead at the present. He overthought it. I”m not usually one to criticize him, but that was just boneheaded. That situation is exactly why we traded for Dyson.
  5. The Sox had a rookie starter going last night and Minnesota couldn’t beat them. Who were Minnesota starting?
  6. I feel like an enabler just reading and posting in this thread.
  7. The point is that Giolito looked like “he may not take that next step” in 2018.
  8. MLB really needs to add international players to the draft. There is no good reason not to.
  9. If he has been doing this for his entire career, maybe luck doesn’t have much to do with it.
  10. This is the type of games winning teams win. I think Robert is starting to figure out how pitchers are pitching him. As for Mazara, very good game. I think he gets a bad rap for his defense, suffering in comparison to Engel. Mazara provides average defense, which is fine when he is hitting like he is capable of. Honorable mention to Giolito for regaining composure and keeping us within striking distance. Nice to win the ace’s game when he doesn’t quite have it. Let’s do it some more!
  11. I usually don’t wade into game threads, but Soler did not come close to going around.
  12. For the record, the start time of any game can be changed with very little notice. Years ago, I was in NY with my brother and nephew and we had planned to go to a NYY game scheduled at 7p after sightseeing that day. We happened to tune into a radio channel in the early afternoon that was broadcasting that day’s game at that time! They had moved up the game time to avoid a potential thunderstorm later in the day (which, as it happened, never materialized). The game had to have been changed that morning since as of late the night before it was still scheduled for 7p. We managed to get to the stadium to see the last three innings.
  13. For those who might not be aware, MLB is celebrating Jackie Robinson Day today.
  14. It is easier to sit on fastballs when you know the pitcher has to throw them.
  15. Hopefully it’ll be Lopez for 9 shutout innings, and then go from there. The Sox won’t need to have a short leash for Reynaldo.
  16. Isn’t it more accurate to say it hasn’t worked out yet?
  17. Actually, the quote says the Jr. works harder, not the Elijah does not work hard. A subtle but important distinction.
  18. I’m not one to reflexively criticize RR, but Robert is the prototypical leadoff hitter. He has the look of a 40/40 guy.
  19. I get the impression that Basabe’s rep among fans is more about his billing at the time of the trade than anything he has done as a Sox prospect, especially relative to the other Sox OF prospects.
  20. I agree with this. Unless a team is willing to do a sucker’s deal, then it is unlikely any team is going to trade anyone of value this season.
