QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) "White Sox Likely Next to Undergo Full-Blown Fire Sale" via http://TeamStre.am by Bleacher Report http://teamstre.am/1VdCgTI He lists Avi as our second best trade chip after Quintana. Seriously.

QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) The Nats offer is supposedly pretty close to it. If it's a Scherzer-type deal with a lot of deferred money as rumored, then it's actually not that close to it.
-
Don't forget we also have Tommy Kahnle too, who aside from a brutal week in mid-August was mostly solid the rest of the year.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:20 AM) I know, and it may turn out that this will be the actual market for the guy, a contract in the 3-4 year range. It's just with the backdrop of Heyward getting an eight year deal, Upton a five year, and Gordon four years, that this "Three year contract - take it or leave it" approach is simply not being competitive in the current market. I want the Sox to get Cespedes. I think he makes a whole lot of sense for the Sox and fulfills a few key needs. Maybe they'll get him under a three year deal, in which case, great, if they can get it done that way. But if someone else snaps him up for five years while we're standing there waving a three year deal in the air, well, I don't think that's going to look very good at all. If he ends up taking a guaranteed 5 year deal in the $110-120 million range, then I don't think the Sox would look bad for refusing to go that high. Cespedes is not good enough to warrant that.
-
If we don't get him, fine, but please just get someone to replace Garcia.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) I've been out most of the afternoon. Have I missed anything or still the same? Nothing really new except for Rosenthal going from saying the Nats have offered 5 years to saying it "could be 5 years".
-
It does seem odd that if the Sox and Mets are holding firm at 3 years and the Nationals are guaranteeing him 5 that he hasn't signed already.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) I meant the Sox The Sox never said anything. Bob Nightengale said it.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
OmarComing25 replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) Desmond's WRC+ in 2015 was 83. His fWAR was 1.7. Saladino only projects to be in the 0.0-0.5 range, but that's too steep a price to pay for a marginal upgrade. Fowler had a WRC+ of 110 and a fWAR of 3.2. Much more bang for your buck. So we're just going to assume every player repeats their previous season's performance? Would have been wonderful if we could have banked on that last year in regards to Samardzija, LaRoche, Melky and Alexei (and even Abreu). The previous three seasons prior to 2015 Desmond was the far better player than Fowler. -
No matter where he signs just please sign by tonight.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) He hit .218 last year. No reason to be upset that we didn't sign him, unless for AAA He also has 36 HR in his last 682 PA, is projected for 2 WAR by Steamer for 2016, and could have been had cheaply. He had a very low BABIP in 2015 that was likely to improve. Decent buy-low candidate.
-
If he signs with the Nats, which fanbase will react worse, Sox or Mets?
-
The guy's a broken record at this point. I still don't buy it though.

The Top 30 White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2016
OmarComing25 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) It's here! Here is our list of the Top 30 White Sox Prospects going into the 2016 season. This is the result of work from nearly the entire FS writing staff, and we're quite proud of it, though of course it is subjective and everyone will have different opinions. There is also in there a list of players who were discussed but just missed. What do you think of the list? What would you have done differently? Also, if you like it, please do share it around social media or with your friends! Thanks for the great work as usual. If you had to only pick one, which Sox prospect do you think increases his stock the most in 2016? -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Right. But imagine your most average friend. Maybe a guy who see once every couple months. Don't know him super well, but always got along. Let's call him Fred. Now, you're job hunting, and get offers from two companies -- one of which is the place that Fred works. The company that Fred works for is offering you 30% less money. Do you choose Fred's company? What if Fred was your best friend in the whole world? Depends, how well can Fred hit a curveball?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) Evidently you are new to SoxTALK. Its what we do. I'm going to be ashamed and embarrassed if we don't make it to 400 pages before he signs.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) We sure the Angels are willing to take the cap hit for Cespedes? It'd only be for 1 year, don't they have $50 million coming off the books?
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) I have very little doubt that Cespedes is going to sign with some random team out of nowhere. I'm still waiting for the Cardinals to get in on the action.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) Jesus, is this what this saga has become on Soxtalk? I was more highlighting how absurd this whole thing has become.

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Right on que...Nats supposedly pushing hard for Cespedes (from the same guy who said 3 finalists are Nets, Nats & Sox). That would be a bold move...

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) Once again the White Sox are not getting the bargain that people think they will get. At a bargain price teams will jump back in the pool and drive the price up to a realistic number which will be around 5/$100 with an opt out after the second year. Teams don't really bid against themselves what they do is provide a number that they feel will get them the player they want at the cost that they feel the player will take. This was what he cubs did with Heyward. I really hope the White Sox are not sitting around think they can get him for 3/$60 or something like that. Does anyone really think the Sox think they could get him at 3/60? They're not stupid, if that's all they're willing to offer then they were never serious about getting him to begin with. If the Sox are serious, they'd have to at least go 4/90-100 or 5/110, which would be a drop in Cespedes' demands, but still high enough that not many other teams are going to jump in at that. That's been my assumption all along about the discounted price he could potentially be had at.

Opening Day - Who's standing in our OF (Poll)
OmarComing25 replied to he gone.'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) Interesting how the overall mindset changed as soon as Upton was signed. Originally it was about 1/3 split between Fowler/Yo/Garcia ... Almost exclusively Garcia after the Upton signing. I agree the more and more that comes out, just based on context clues, that Cespedes wants, and believes he'll get his 5/6 year deal at $23mm+ and probably with an opt out too. No chance the Sox do that. Nor should they if that's what it will take.
