Would be more upset losing Fulmer than Anderson.

@MarkBermanFox26 Told #Astros getting closer Ken Giles from Phillies for pitchers: Vince Velasquez, Bret Oberholtzer &OF Derek Fisher, pending physicals. Pretty good haul for the Phillies.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 10:49 PM) I think it's almost a guaranteed that Hayward lands with the Cubs or Cards... More likely the Cubs at this point. I think he winds up with neither of those teams.
-
Can't we just make a move without talking about the damn Cubs?
-
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:58 PM) Anybody think Montas, Micah, Avi, and Jordan Guerrero gets it done for Frazier? And if so would you want to do it from our side? I would do it, doubt the Reds would though.
-
Low risk, potential high reward, even if he doesn't rebound it's an upgrade, exactly the types of moves we should be making right now. So happy we didn't give up Thompson or Engel.
-
We're better at all three slots.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) Two years of Todd Frazier (and not awful pricing for those two years, either) is totally worth Tim Anderson. We can't be delusional about our prospects. Tim Anderson is Top 50 but in so many other farm systems he would not be the #1. Defense and Ks have not been solved. It's a very fair price for a legit all-star 3b who is not old. Not when we have as many holes as we do. If Frazier was one of the final pieces to put us over the top, then yeah sure trade Anderson for him. But he's not.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 15m15 minutes ago Official on Reds' efforts to move Todd Frazier: "I wouldn't be surprised if he got traded." At this point, not enough traction in CLE talks. To me, it seems like the Indians could put together a much stronger package with Salazar leading the way. Let them be the ones to overpay.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) There are going to be some grumpy people on here if nothing gets done before the meetings end. There's going to be grumpy people regardless of what happens.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) You would think they would be if the Sox let it known that he were available. I think since we haven't heard of interest from a team like Pit, you know that Sox really aren't looking to make a deal involving Q. I don't think Pitt has the ammo to make a Quintana deal with them worthwhile.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Someone who is under team control for 3 or more years. Agreed, I'd be down for trading him but not for any short-term rentals with the team in its current state.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) I know this has been discussed a bunch in the Shelby Miller thread, but if this is the environment, perhaps the Sox should stop trying to patch together a playoff team next year and get on the right side of all the overpays. +1

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) I would absolutely support an Anderson/Adams/M. Johnson deal Maybe if Frazier had 3 years of control, but only 2 I say no way.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) Except Dom is the guy who gets the Ace with the power stuff. I don't see him overpaying for Q. I could see him overpaying for Sale but not Q. Q is quietly one of the best pitchers in baseball and a bargain, but that "quietly" part is going to prevent people from overpaying for him (imo). He might be underrated and unknown among baseball fans, but I'm pretty positive baseball front offices know how valuable he is. They wouldn't be very good at their jobs if they didn't.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) We can't get a Miller-like haul for Quintana now -- only Dave Stewart would make that deal, and Dave Stewart doesn't have enough good prospects now. This is a good point. Just because one GM is stupid enough to do a deal that some executives are calling the "worst trade they've ever seen", doesn't mean that other GMs are now equally as dumb. That being said, Quintana is a lot more valuable than Miller, so a proposal like that for Q is not at all outrageous like it was for Miller.

QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) i remember thinking the same thing about Thome. i remember thinking the same thing about Dunn. i remember thinking the same thing about LaRoche. i'm sure if we get Upton, he'd have a career LOW year. Haha what. We got Thome when he was 35 and he still hit a ton of homers with us. What kind of outrageous expectations did you have?

@Buster_ESPN As the market now begins to shift toward the unsigned outfielders, rival evaluators see the Giants as frontrunners for Alex Gordon. Who gets signed first, Gordon or Heyward?
-
QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) Seriously the only other option is to gut the minor league system again to get better. The worst possible thing they could do here is stand pat or marginally upgrade 3B or another position. That doesn't put you in a better situation to win much more than last year. After seeing what Atlanta got for Miller who's performance is comparable to Quintana I would hope they're getting feelers on him. It is nearly impossible to improve on last year's team without gutting the minors or trading a starter. Quintana >>> Miller

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) Fathom convinces himself the cubs are going to sign every A flight player every off-season so that he feels better when it does not come through. All last season all we heard was Price to the cub...JS was going to go there to torment the Sox fans Signing Gordon would be a grave mistake for them which Lackey and Zobrist both were. They still need to figure out what Arrieta is going to make next year. Completely forgot about this, that's going to add quite a bit of money by itself, seems unlikely they have enough for Heyward. I could see Gordon though.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) The Braves have done an incredible job and you're not wrong but the Sox would have to move Abreu/Sale/Quintana/Eaton. The Sox really have no complimentary pieces. Robertson and that's it. 1.) Stars (using the word liberally): Abreu, Sale, Quintana, Eaton 2.) Young assets that are potential building blocks: Rodon, Fulmer, Anderson 3.) Nice young pieces: Thompson, E. Johnson and Montas 4.) Tradable assets in a teardown: Robertson and maybe Jones. My point being, would a tear down like the Braves be possible without anyone notable? I certainly don't think so. However, I think the Sox can swap some younger assets for better fits at positions of need. That being said, if I am them, I am considering selling high on Quintana/Robertson, keeping the QO pick and gambling one 1 yearr FAs (Pearce, Latos, a reliever) that could potentially flipped in July and building for 2017. Especially given how the college draftees have been flying to the Majors recently. Looking towards 2017, the Sox could add a lot of talent by doing the following: 1.) Getting a Miller like haul for Quintana 2.) Getting a good return for Robertson 3.) Getting three top 50 draft picks 4.) Getting a return for 1 yearr FAs that work out. 5.) Getting Anderson, Fulmer, Montas and Johnson to develop. I am on board with this plan, a lot of posters seem to think of only the extremes, either a complete tear-down or "going for it", but I like the idea of a one-year rebuild while looking to 2017 and 2018. And even if we make 2016 a rebuilding year there's still an outside shot to contend if we catch a few 2008-like breaks.

@JoeFrisaro For #Dodgers to land Jose Fernandez from #Marlins hearing it would take Urias, Seager, Pederson and two more. #WinterMeetings Good luck with that Marlins.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:33 AM) A possible name to keep an eye on....when I visited Winston-Salem in August I talked to several scouts from different organizations who LOVED Trey Michalczewski. The Winston-Salem roster was loaded but Michalczewski was the first name I always heard. I'd be so bummed if Trey is in this deal.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) Adam warren is decent. Not sure why people are dumping on him so much. Castro is trash. They got a pretty usable arm, who fangraphs loves (3 war projected next year). Not overwhelming, but at the deadline they basically couldn't give Castro away Where are you getting the projected 3 WAR from? Steamer has Warren at 0.4 WAR next year.
