  1. Why not just do 50% of what happened, 50% of what should have happened, seems the fairest way to do it. Take the average of the bWAR and fWAR.
  2. I honestly don't think selling off and blowing it up would bring back as much young talent as people are hoping for.

Anyone else watch The Last Kingdom? Pretty interesting historical drama that I'm just getting into, definitely worth checking out.
  4. Honestly would be shocked if Arrieta doesn't win it, I don't think it will be as close as people think.
  5. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) I think they go out and get a starter in FA and then add another via trade. Their rotation was all sorts of bad last year. Their rotation ranked 12th in the MLB in WAR and 6th in the AL.
  6. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) I will add that even though the offseason traditionally "starts" at the winter meetings, there has already been plenty of activity around the league, some of which could have greatly benefited the team. It's just a really bad look for the FO. They can say whatever they want and we as a fanbase know KW talks out of his ass regularly, but they just dont look prepared. Still think you're reading way too much into it. As fathom said there's pretty much zero reason to pay any attention to what they say, especially KW. And you really think they've been sitting on their asses the last few months? I see no reason to think they're unprepared.
  7. Holy s*** people are reading way too much into these comments.
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) What is the point of trading a young good starting pitcher? Maybe they don't trust him to hold up after the surgery?
  9. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) The value of Quintana and Sale will never be higher than it is right now. Proven track records and health will not be greater next year. A lost year of cost control, 200 innings and potential health issues make it the time to do something now. You either take the steps to improve for 2016 or you move one or both of them. I disagree, have you seen the FA crop for SP next offseason? It is downright ugly, and Sale/Quintana would probably have more value next offseason even with the loss of a year of control. Teams are still going to need SP next year, and trade will be pretty much the only way to go. Right now there are tons of options in free agency, so the return wouldn't be as high.
  10. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) Yeah they look similar to last year sans the defense. Have the Bulls blown anyone out in their wins this year? 76ers
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) There's a lot of Christian terrorists in Africa: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_terrorism Any religion, when looked at by dumbass fundamentalists, can turn bad. There are fundamentalists everywhere, but the problem with Islam is that a not insignificant number of moderate Muslims hold extreme views by our standards. The sample size in that poll isn't very large at 600 and I'm not sure about the soundness of the methodology behind the poll, but even if the true percentages are half of what the poll says, those are troubling numbers. https://www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org/201...-shariah-jihad/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/1...terrorists.html
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 15, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) Acquiring Freeman would push Abreu to DH. I'd love to get Freeman. I'd offer LaRoche, Montas, Danish, and Hawkins. That is a horrible deal for the Braves. Probably would take something like Anderson/Adams/Trey, maybe even more.
  13. Edwin Jackson was actually pretty good for us, not sure why he's an example of a veteran failure.
  14. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 01:40 AM) You know I'm sure the Jays were too worried about getting Coors Field Tulo. You mean the Tulo that had a .697 OPS with the Blue Jays?
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) Half of the NL isn't even pretending to compete for next year Are any AL teams even rebuilding? Maybe Oakland, but I would not be at all surprised if they were good next year. Meanwhile in the NL the Padres, Rockies, Braves, Phillies, Marlins, Reds and Brewers are in rebuilding mode or have little hope of contending. What a joke.
  16. I see no reason we can't be competitive again by 2017 with the right moves made, it's not like we were as bad as the Phillies this year. A full rebuild means punting on the next 4-5 seasons with no guarantee we'll be any better off, no thanks. The threat of the Royals is way overstated, they're losing a lot this offseason, their starting pitching still sucks, and Holland is hurt all of next year.
  17. Last I checked saving a run defensively is equal to creating a run offensively. Defense definitely shouldn't be least of our worries, it's just as important as improving the offense.
  18. Even if he improves his plate recognition his awful defense will still be there.
  19. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) His arm was so way below average that he was one of only 15 outfielders in MLB to have a throw that hit 100 mph. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-outfiel...-who-threw-100/ Kiermaier is just on his own level when it comes to defense.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) I feel bad for the team that signs that worthless piece of garbage. He was bad for us, but seriously? I would be actually be surprised if he didn't end up being pretty good next season for some NL team.
  21. Very few teams have even two LHP, and many rotations have five RHP in them. I don't care what hand the pitcher uses as long as he's good.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) No problems where they're at, as they haven't beat anyone good. Same reason I'm fine with Baylor where they're at now, but will think it's insane if they go undefeated and aren't a top 4 team. Florida has some good wins, which should negate some "bad" wins as well. To answer your question, I don't know why anyone schedules a tough OOC game that's in a power 5 conference. If you run the table, you're going to make it. The current format isn't designed for a team from the AAC, etc. to make it, and I'm fine with that. Ole Miss is a good win, but what are the others? A beat-up Georgia team that wasn't that great when healthy? A Missouri team that has no offense? A mediocre Tennessee? And the whole "every win should be better than every loss" mindset would just encourage everyone to schedule awful teams in OOC, which is partially why I'm against it. We should want more matchups between quality teams.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) To me, yes any win should be viewed better than any loss. As I said before, if a team is barely winning and then loses a game it shouldn't have, then you can punish them for not being impressive during the year. So where do you think Houston should be ranked? If any win is better than any loss, then why schedule any tough OOC games?
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 02:43 PM) I agree with that, but they still should be valued more than a close loss Depends on who the close loss is to, and depends on who the close win is to. Is an overtime win against an FCS team really more valuable than an overtime loss to a top 4 ranked team (just a hypothetical example here)? I think most would disagree. Also, once again, this isn't the first close win Florida has had against bad teams. There's also Kentucky and ECU.
