  1. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) Everybody in the league makes six figures. Probably meant 9. Haha yes I did mean 9.
  2. Anderson also had a .391 BABIP this year, and while he seems like a guy that could sustain a higher than average BABIP, that is still way too high. Hopefully he can cut down on the Ks a bit more.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) Problem is that the Chicago media now thinks it's the only way you can build a team. What's continually frustrating about it is that this Cubs team was not built by high draft picks for the most part, and they have the money to hand out multiple 9 figure deals, something we'll never be able to do.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) The time zone excuse for justifying Stanford's lost is comical. To me, it seems like they just want to set up the "quarterfinal" game with ND/Stanford. I'm not using the time zone excuse, and it's not like @NW is a bad loss anyway. But I think Stanford would beat Florida on a neutral field. Florida is lucky they don't have 3 or 4 losses.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Not quite sure why Stanford jumped up so much, and I hate seeing Florida lose a spot after a win while FSU stays the same after a loss. Stanford moved up because 3 teams ahead of them lost, and looked bad in doing so. The only team they really passed was Florida, and it's not hard to see the logic, Stanford looked dominant against a weak opponent while Florida was lucky to escape a crappy team at home (if Vanderbilt doesn't pull a Jacksonville State with that punt I think they win). This isn't the first or second or even third time Florida has struggled mightily against poor teams, so I'm fine with where they are.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) ND is going to fall out due to not having a conference title if all things line up and the uproar is going to be tremendous. This is why I really want ND to join a conference. Not having that extra game against a quality team means you're facing an uphill battle every year.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:38 PM) These rankings are insane. It's the year of a good lose being more valuable than a bad win. If the committee gives Stanford credit for losing an early start time, why is that game even played so early? What's so insane about them, is it because there are 1-loss teams ahead of undefeated teams? If people can accept 1 or 2 loss teams being ahead of Houston, then the same logic can apply to the others. Also, the committee is trying to rank the best teams, not necessarily the most deserving. I think they're trying to do a combination of both. It's hard to get a read on the Big 12 teams right now, especially Baylor. This will all work itself out though.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson will win out. The only team who may lose is ND. If ND is ahead of OSU and Baylor now, they will stay that way especially if they beat Stanford. OSU ending with wins vs Oklahoma and Baylor won't raise their SOS enough and same goes for Baylor if they beat OSU, TCU and Oklahoma. Not sure why you think Baylor beating OSU, TCU, and Oklahoma wouldn't propel them past a 1-loss ND. It's pretty clear that Baylor is at #6 right now only because they haven't even played a team with a winning record yet. Things will change fast in the next few weeks if they beat those three teams.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) No use trying to figure it out. Stanford moved up for beating Colorado. There is no Method until the cards are all on the table. Stanford didn't move up so much as LSU, MSU, and TCU fell. If those teams had won Stanford would still be behind them.
  10. I've read some posts on here that feel Sale should pitch to contact more, and that the focus on strikeouts was part of the cause for his career-high ERA. I don't really agree with that, he saw a similar large jump in his K% and K/9 from 2013 to 2014, where he had by far the lowest ERA of his career. This year it was a combination of bad defense, perhaps a bit of bad luck on balls in play (his BABIP was significantly higher than his career average), too many big innings, the god damn Twins, and giving up way too many HR the last 5-6 weeks of the season.
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) Why is their so many men nowadays that cant refrain from harassing and assaulting women? Its not that hard to be a decent person. If I can do it anyone can, believe me. Haven't sexual assaults been going down (like every other crime)? There's just more reporting on it now, it's not happening more frequently.
  12. I like the moves, but it seems like a lot of money to throw around, is the money there?
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) What I came up with in a waiting room today... Sign Alexei Ramirez for 2 year 14 million Lack of options, bounce back candidate and stop gap. Sign Rich Hill 2 year 16 million. Dude has pitched sparingly but has been highly effective the last few years especially down the stretch for the Red Sox last year. I imagine they'll try to retain him but they have Buccholz, Johnson, Rodriguez and Porcello + whatever big-ticket starter they add. Lots of potential for surplus value as he has fixed his mechanics. Sign Kenta Maeda – 20 million posting & 5 year, 70 million. Knocks on him are his slender frame. Dominant in Japan. Paying for 28-33 year old seasons. No compensation past money. Replaces hole left by Quintana. Trade Erik Johnson, Adam LaRoche and 6 million for Matt Adams. Cardinals have Piscotty ®, Bourjos®, Jay(L), Holliday®, Pham ® and Grichuck® in the outfield. Whispers are they are going to move Holliday to 1B but he's unwilling. LaRoche could break up all the righties in the middle of the lineup and sit vs. lefthanded pitching when Holliday/Pham/Piscotty cover 1B. The can sub in Boujos/Jay in the OF late and switch the less defensive oriented OF to 1B to have a great defensive unit. Johnson gives them an arm to help stomach the loss of Lackey/Lynn. Wainright, Lynn, Garcia aren't spring chickens anymore so Johnson gives them another young arm to add to Wacha/Martinez. Trade Frankie Montas for Martin Prado Not much explanation needed here. Prado covers 3B and hits second. I don't believe Montas can start. Not sure what the market will think of Montas but I think it's a worthy move. Trade Jose Quintana and Micah Johnson to Arizona for David Peralta, Chris Owings, Archie Bradley and Keith Kessler. Peralta is the key. BABIP is a bit high and he plays in AZ so his stats aren't as pure as they'd look in a glance but he's a well-above average LH bat who is pre-arb. Owings is a guy who was hamstringed by a bad wrist and is a great bounceback candidate. Do the look and see approach at both 2B/SS. Bradley has had an up-and-down career in AZ and scouts and executives have pinned him as a potential trade candidate. Good GB% and nice four pitch mix for the Sox to work with. Keith Kessler is a guy who hasn't had much of a chance in the MLB but I think can become a dominant LHSU. Sucks losing Quintana for reasons that don't need to be said and Johnson seems to have fallen out of favor and could find a role in AZ who lacks a 2B other than the skeleton known as Aaron Hill. Trade Avi Garcia for Tucker Barnhart Neither leave much to be excited about but fit their new teams much better. Barnhart is a light hitting switch-hitter who does everything well other than hitting and running. Noted that he works well with pitchers which the Sox love. L CF Adam Eaton R 3B Martin Prado R 1B/DH Jose Abreu L RF David Peralta S LF Melky Cabrera L DH/1B Matt Adams R SS Alexei Ramirez/Chris Owings R C Tyler Flowers S/R 2B Carlos Sanchez/Chris Owings Bench: INF Owings/Sanchez, OF Thompson, C Barnhart and Saladino/Shuck L SP1 Chris Sale R SP2 Kenta Maeda L SP3 Carlos Rodon L SP4 Rich Hill R SP5 Archie Bradley RHP Robertson RHP Jones LHP Dule LHP Jennings RHP Putnam LHP Hessler RHP Petricka Key here is to keep the draft picks and add cost effective players who can add to the team for years to come. What happens with Danks?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) http://chicago.suntimes.com/baseball/7/71/...-spending-spree I would have thought the ceiling would be much higher. Price alone would cause them to hit that ceiling, which makes me think they won't be pushing hard for him.
  15. Honestly I never put any stock into the "three year plan" quote, people are reading way too much into that.
  16. Since I don't think the Sox would trade Quintana for just prospects, the only realistic Sox/Cubs trade I see involving him would be something like Q for Schwarber and McKinney. However, I still don't think either side does that deal, as the Sox aren't going to trade Quintana for a 2 WAR DH (Schwarber put up the exact same wRC+ that Kendry Morales did this year, and Morales was at 2.1 WAR) that only exasperates our problems against LHP, and after that playoff performance the Cubs probably feel Schwarber's value is at an all-time high and won't trade him unless they're blown away by an offer.
  17. Am I the only one who doesn't think Price signs with the Cubs? He'll cost an arm and a leg, and the fact that the Cubs have been linked to Heyward and Gordon makes me think they'll try to sign one of those two and a 2nd-tier SP instead. Signing Price could also mean there's not enough to resign Arrieta when the time comes. I don't think they'll want to be stuck paying three SP in their mid-30s almost $100 million dollars several years from now when it's time to pay all their hitters.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Not only is he a top 20 pitcher in MLB, he is young, left-handed, under team control for 5 more seasons (2 of which are team options), at an AAV of $8.65M. It literally doesn't get more valuable than that. He's worth a ton, and I suspect he won't be traded unless some other team really, really, really wants him and is willing to give up a TON to get him. Minimum Cole Hamels package, and his value is higher than Hamels' was at the time of his trade, so Q should get more.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) OK, so some idiots shout racial slurs at a black guy, who tweets about it, and then there are protests because the University Chancellor took six days to condemn it and his actions weren't strong enough? I also notice they were comparing this to the situation at Oklahoma, where stronger action was taken, but at Oklahoma these were identifiable students who were part of an identifiable group. In this case, it was "white guys in a pick up truck" who shouted the racial slurs. Was the Chancellor supposed to kick every white guy with a pickup truck out of school? There is either a lot more to this story or this was a massive overreaction. While I understand the incredible frustration at the bigotry that was displayed, I don't see what more the Chancellor could have done. Agree 100%. Wolfe has actually resigned now. Not really much he could have done about this. Good luck to the next president I guess, I don't envy whoever it is.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) What do you think makes them stop? There's only two ways: we actually trade Sale or we become a playoff contender again.
  21. I can't wait for these threads to stop.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) So can any Missouri fans/students/graduates fill us in on why a number of their black athletes are saying they won't play until the university's president is fired? http://www.themaneater.com/special-sections/mu-fall-2015/
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 11:17 PM) WTF just happened in this thread?! This has to be some of the most bat-s*** loony nonsense I have ever seen posted on this site. I mean really, who the f*** searches for articles on whether or not Theo Epstein was a varsity starter like it actually has some impact on his ability to be a good GM. Just pure insanity. I don't think I've ever seen a thread go as off the rails as this one has. And it's happened multiple times in this one!
  24. I thought Hahn was well-known as an analytics-focused guy, when I first heard about him that was the phrase I heard the most. In fact, just do a Google search with "Rick Hahn analytics" and you get tons of results talking about his analytical mindset. Also, who gives a s*** if he played sports in high school?
