QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) Cespedes is a nice player and all, but he is not what the Sox need. Another mediocre at best defensive outfielder who hardly walks at all (low OBP) and strike out a bunch, and for around $25M AAV. That is a contract that you're going to regret (as are most FA signing these days). I for one hope the Sox stay away from Cespedes at that price. I don't want Cespedes either, but for what it's worth both UZR and DRS rated him as a very good fielder this season.

ALCS- Kansas City Royals vs Toronto Blue Jays
OmarComing25 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in The Diamond Club
1-0 Jays, c'mon Toronto, at least make this an interesting series. -
It's been said before, but better regular season record does not equal better team.
-
Not sure I agree with blaming Robin for lack of fundamentals. These players have been playing baseball their entire lives, and a bunch of our players are veterans from other teams. It's not up to Robin to teach them fundamentals, they should already know how to do that.

The main storyline in this NLCS has been the Mets' arms vs. the Cubs' power bats, but the Mets actually hit more HR (without Cespedes and Wright for most of the season too) and the Cubs had a lower ERA in the regular season.

Samardzija reportedly has no plans to re-sign

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) Another baseball non sequitir. The worst starting pitcher in baseball will be signed to a mega, mega million dollar deal. And the signing will be treated as great news by the fans that get him. He's the worst pitcher in baseball. Past performance means nothing once you are deemed an ace. Crazy stuff. I can give you dozens of pitchers who were worse than Samardzija this year. -
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Without looking it up, 4 game sweeps in the CS aren't too common. I could see them picking up 1 or 2 wins before this is over. Hopefully that's it, because coming back from an 0-3 deficit to win and advance is a nightmare I don't think the world is ready to experience. LCS sweeps aren't common because it's really hard to win 4 straight games against any team. But it's a heck of a lot easier to get the sweep when you've already won the first three games.

Arrieta probably won't have an ERA under 2 again, but he was great in 2014 as well, he's not 2003 Esteban Loiaza.
-
I also don't want to pay $150 million to a guy who will be 33 next season and is due for big-time regression.
-
So is the lesson here that if you face the Cubs in the playoffs you should have some connection to the name Murphy in some way? Seems pretty simple.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) Get them away from Robin and its bound to happen. I actually wouldn't mind signing Shark to an extension if we were smart enough to s***can Ventura in the offseason. Yeah you're right, LaRoche had all those strikeouts because of Ventura, and Robin made Shark throw all those meatballs. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 10:39 AM) He'd probably bring up the 2012 undefeated team that had 5 or 6 close games and deserved at least 2 or 3 losses that year. Stuff happens with a lot of teams like that every year. Some teams get lucky wins. Even then that team beat the Pac 12 champion and the Big 12 champion, and IIRC that team started the season unranked anyway. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) They couldnt account for how bad of a manager Williams was. And the pitching staff is right at 30, Zimmerman is 29, Scherzer is 31, Gio is 30, Strasburg is 27, Roark is 30, Fister is 31. It isnt like they are an old rotation I was talking about the Cubs' rotation, and I don't think the Nationals' struggles were because of their manager. Sure 30 isn't that old and the rotation should be fine for the next couple years, but people are talking about a 5-6 year window, and at the back end of that the pitchers will all be in their mid-30s (I'm including the expected free agent SP this offseason here too), and it's not like the Cubs have promising young arms on the way. Even at age 30 Fangraphs puts the odds of a pitcher spending time on the DL in any given season at just under 50%.

Today's the day Marty arrived in the future. It would be poetic for the Cubs to eliminated today.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) You're probably right, but a number of ND teams have been pretty bad for their ranks. For example? -
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 10:49 PM) But per fan interest, there's a reasonable amount of coverage for each when they're both good. This isn't 1993. The Sox have broken the WS drought. That isn't really true. Even in 2012 when the Cubs were terrible and the Sox were in first place most of the year the coverage was not what you would have expected. The Cubs will continue to get favorable coverage barring a dynastic-type run from the Sox.

Samardzija reportedly has no plans to re-sign
OmarComing25 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Would anyone really be surprised to see Samardzija have a good-to-great year with some NL team next season? I'm fully expecting it to happen. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) They definitely should be good. I just think people should be cautious with the "year ahead of schedule" confidence. The Nationals are prime example of how much can go wrong in baseball. The Cubs' hitters should be solid, but we will see how their pitching plays out. Even if they acquire top arms, that doesn't also work out as planned. The Nationals are a good example. They shut down Strasburg in 2012 because they just assumed they'd be at the top of the NL for the next 5-6 years. The Cubs' position players are young but their pitching staff is pretty much all on the wrong side of 30 and old pitchers are a big injury risk.

Really though what are they supposed to say?

Some people wondering where the Cubs of last series went but that Cardinals team would have lost a series to 20 teams in the state they were in.
-
A lot of Cub fans are saying that a lot of rules in baseball don't make sense (like the dropped third strike) so this ivy stuff is justifiable. Bulls***, it's just as stupid as the dome ceiling rule.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) Travis Wood is totally 2005 Neal Cotts. Garbage pitcher who people can't make contact off of for some reason this year. Cotts actually had a better year for the Rangers a few years ago than he did in '05.

QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) Poor Griffey. He was really dont when he was traded here. Still cool to have him on the roster though. I'll always love him for throwing out that runner at home in game 163, even if it wasn't a difficult throw to make.

Wood is like Danks. He either looks like trash or dominates, not a lot of in-between.
