  1. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) Isn't that what they have been trying to do for the last nine years? Not trying to be snide or sarcastic but this sounds like more of the same that hasn't worked. Commit to a plan and stay there come hell or high water. I'd prefer a tear down but at this point I'll take that or a complete 'go for it' charge regardless of how much it costs. Mark Since when is selling high, buying low, and increasing international presence a bad plan?
  2. Don't swing at a pitch out of the zone on the first pitch right after he walks a guy Peralta.
  3. The Cubs could very well end up being the highest bidder, but I think his comments and the Maddon connection are overblown in terms of importance. 99% of the time athletes go to the highest bidder, I don't see why Price would be any different.
  4. I doubt LaRoche plays much against lefties next season, I see Thompson getting the starts in the OF and Melky moving to DH when that happens, so there's at least a reasonable chance LaRoche can be productive next season in a platoon. It's a lot more justifiable when he's in the last year of his contract.
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) Arrieta is going to get paid this year and it will be an unexpectedly big hit to them. His agent is Boras and his free agency is still a few years off. If Arrieta ends up getting a huge number through arbitration that could affect their bid for Price. Funny how this board is the only place I've read that just 100% assumes Price is going to the Cubs, everywhere else I've read thinks he could still go several places, even end up staying in Toronto. I know there's a Maddon connection, but I still think he goes to the highest bidder.
  6. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) I'm trying to decide who is a better matchup for the Cubs, if they get to NLCS. Mets have the pitching. Dodgers have the pitching, too, obviously. Mets seem to have better offense, though. Probably the Dodgers at this point, their pitching beyond Kershaw and Greinke is sorely lacking and if they make it to the NLCS neither of those two will be able to pitch Game 1. I know the Cubs went 7-0 against the Mets but both teams are a lot different from the last time they played. Only thing is you have to wonder how the young arms and Harvey are going to hold up the deeper the Mets go.
  7. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) We can develop hitting for s***. So we need to move Q for for a package with an impact bat. If we're just going to continue assuming we're never going to develop any hitters, might as well trade Anderson before he busts, right?
  8. Arenado would cost a fortune, and I'd be a bit wary. His road numbers in 2012-2014 are uninspiring, and though he hit more HR on the road this year than at home he still had an OBP of less than .300 on the road in 2015. For what he would cost to acquire, not sure I like that risk.
  9. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) Bonds was terrible in the playoffs before the steroid years. In a sample size of
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 09:38 AM) What? Bonds hit 8 homers in 17 games in the 2002 playoffs. His OPS was somewhere in the range north of 1.500 A-Rod was also great in every 2009 playoff series, and his playoff career OPS is .822, a drop-off from his career average but not anywhere near bad enough to be labeled a playoff goat. Bonds' OPS in the playoffs is .936
  11. "It’s almost freakish that so many players performed below expectations in the same year" That's the silver lining, we should be able to reasonably expect a bounce back year from a few guys. Remember that Dunn and Rios both bounced back in a big way in 2012, would be nice if LaRoche and Melky could do the same (or even just a modest improvement from both). Also, I also like the idea of Fowler, surprised he hasn't come up as a possible name on this board yet.
  12. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 09:24 AM) Why Lackey, though? I'm pretty sure it will be David Price in a Cubs uniform. If the Dodgers lose tonight I wouldn't be surprised to see them throw everything and the kitchen sink at Price, they really lack SP depth for a team with such a large payroll.
  13. A healthy Carlos Martinez would have been a big difference maker in this series, the Cardinals just look beat up. Still a bit surprised that so many are calling this series over already, Hammel has been complete trash for months, and he's been very prone to giving up the long ball. Would not be surprised to see the Cardinals score a bunch today.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) Kind of hard not to want a Cubs victory for this lady who is 101 years young. http://abc7chicago.com/sports/101-year-old...-loses/1029630/ And I'd be happy for her if they won it, it's just too bad all the jackasses ruin it.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Every game Arrieta pitches feels like an automatic win. The Cards needed to win Saturday. Still gotta play the game obviously. Doesn't bode well that Wacha was awful in September and the Cubs lineup's career average is over .330 against him. So the series is best of 3 now? Even with a loss tonight I think if the Cards win Game 4 they'll win the series.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) All cubs fans at work are saying tonight is automatic and that they are going to the next around. Must be true. Even if the Cubs win tonight the Cardinals could pound Hammel and then beat Lester again, it's far from being automatic. Hammel has been awful since June and Lackey has dominated the Cubs in all 4 starts against them this year.
  17. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) I like the Cubs, Mets, Cardinals and Mets over all AL teams except the Jays. I still think the jury is out on just how good the top NL teams are, considering the AL dominance in interleague play and how awful the bottom of the NL is. I just don't buy that the top NL teams are any better. Plus anything can happen in a 7-game series.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) Cardinals need to be patient and not swing at crap. They needed to go across town and ask the Royals, who hit 3 HR off Arrieta earlier this year. Also, remember Prior and Wood were supposed to be automatic at home in 2003 as well.
  19. So much for the good offenses don't do well in the playoffs talk. Also, I think it's ridiculous to claim the Jays are the only team with a reasonable shot at the World Series title, none of the NL teams really look like juggernauts, and I think people are underrating the Rangers and Astros.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Judging by social media, why even play the game? Cubs Nation assuming it's 2-1 them already. Losing this game would take the air out of them. Cmon Wacha. Them losing today would definitely put it up there with all their other heartbreaking losses. Make it happen Cardinals.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) This is exactly what is happening in Chicago. Cubs fans are genuinely offended by Sox fans not rooting for them. Even the media has picked this up with stories like the bar serving free drinks when the Cubs give up homers. I still don't understand the confusion over this. I don't think there's anyone who would be surprised by Mets fans rooting against the Yankees (and vice-versa) but somehow it comes as a shock that Sox fans aren't going out of their way to support the Cubs.
  22. Go Astros! If the Blue Jays lose I'm rooting for them to go all the way.
  23. The problem with Cub fans is that they're arrogant when they have no reason to be, and yet they still somehow have a reputation as a "great" fanbase nationally, even though anyone who has to live with them daily knows that they're far more insufferable than loveable.
  24. Even if Arrieta wins it tomorrow (and he looked pretty hittable on Wednesday if the Pirates hadn't been so busy psyching themselves out), I don't think the Cards are done. Hammel hasn't been any good since the first half, and they already beat Lester and the Cubs can't touch Lackey this year.
