Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) Sounds nice and all, but man is he going to be expensive. Any recent comparable deals so we know what to expect? It's probably going to be something in the range of $22-25 million per year, isn't it? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) A .750 OPS, neutral defense, and strongly positive on the basepaths? That sounds like >3 to me right there. 2014 Alexei was rated 11th out of 22 qualified shortstops defensively by Fangraphs, and with a .713 OPS and roughly average baserunning he was worth 3.1 WAR. Castro was 13th defensively (though a pretty decent gap from Alexei) and had a .777 OPS and 2.8 WAR, but he was terrible on the basepaths. Using this as a rough baseline the theoretical season above should definitely be above 3 WAR.

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) and you are right re bold, but according to the chart above, they are right in the middle of the packing according to the rankings. The second chart is rank in the AL, not across the MLB

I'm fully on board with getting a top-10 pick and then making a run at Heyward in the offseason. -
QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) WAR is pretty good. FIP is okay but it isn't park or league adjusted, so parks with extreme effects on homers can mess with it, and it makes no acknowledgement that the Dodgers staff faces a pitcher 2 or 3 times a game while the Sox face a DH. FIP- tries to address that, where 100 is average and lower numbers are better. I don't like xFIP that much in general. cFIP does try to address that problem of who your staff faces, but we can only see that stat at the end of the season. Also, fWAR uses FIP as its main calculator for pitching WAR but it does adjust for league and parks in its WAR calculation.

I know he gave up 0 ER, but Danish only had 2Ks and gave up 8 hits. Can you really call that dominating?

I understand the argument for the Sox thinking he might not be able to cut it in the majors, but really when would have been a good time to bring him up? There's been no spot in the rotation for him, Balta has already pointed out the problems with a 6-man rotation, and the only spot start I can remember is the one that Beck made, and I'm pretty sure Johnson had just recently pitched at that time so he wasn't available anyway. Also near the trade deadline his starts were moved to line up with Samardzija's in case of a trade. If we had traded away Jeff there's no way he's not up here right now.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 05:39 PM) I don't think he's a close as most people think he is, I would like to see better command from him. To answer your question, if the Sox were to draft him it wouldn't be a bad thing. You can never have too much pitching, especially left handed. The Sox could deal a guy at the MLB level (Probably Quintana) and bring more talent into the system. Look at the Cubs and their plethora of shortstops for example or the Mets and their arms.... Yeah having a surplus of talent at one position is a great problem to have. You can always trade your surplus to fill your other holes.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) We suck. Does it really matter? Yes, screw that tough guy bulls***, did any of the 3 HBP yesterday seem intentional anyway? If a pitcher is headhunting your guys then you can retaliate, but other than that just let it go. -

I'd rather not give up a free baserunner, especially one as good as Trout. -
Given all the breaks they've caught this year, this game getting rained out before it's official would be par for the course.
-
Johnson just keeps getting it done, really wish we could see what he's made of in the majors.
-
Coming down HARD now.
-
Ball is flying out of Wrigley tonight. Tigers have hit 3 homers already and it's the 2nd inning (would have 4 but Cabrera's was taken away after a review and called fan interference). Cubs also have a homerun. But the rain is threatening to make all of those longballs disappear.
-
We really need to end up with a top 10 draft pick. The comp pick makes losing a 2nd rounder not hurt too much, but I really don't want to lose our 1st round pick if we decide to pick up a free agent.
-
He should be a great 4th OF at least just due to his defense, which is fine if that's all he turns out to be, there is value in having a good bench.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 11:30 PM) The thing I don't like about Carlos is he seems to be a bit of a headcase. You're going to need to be a bit extra careful with him to make sure you keep him moving in the right direction. He's 22, I'm not at all worried if he's a bit of a headcase at that age.

I love when other teams give up outs.
-
Avi can only hit off-speed pitches, I don't why pitchers don't just throw him fastballs.
-
That was an impressively bad throw
-
Rodon getting ahead of hitters a lot more lately, great to see.
-
Two horrendous swings from Flowers
-
Nice AB from Trayce so far.

Saladino is already 5th in DRS among all 3B this year, which is very impressive when you consider it's a counting stat and he's only played 30 games. The 4 guys ahead of him have all played at least 96 games there. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/...-fielding.shtml
