QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) I swear every game I go to Danks is pitching. I'm going tonight and the last two I went to he was on the mound. God damnit. I'd be happy with literally anyone else.

Was CF just a really strong position across the league last year? How were we 22nd in baseball with a 3.0 WAR there?

Frankie Montas to join Sox for Double Header Friday

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Oh should we base our opinions of him on an exhibition, or his actual season? That 2/3 of an inning is a sufficient sample size to say he's a bust, clearly. -

If anyone is replacing Shark after he's traded, it's Johnson, not Montas. -
Should Baseball Implement a Loan System
OmarComing25 replied to OmarComing25's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He does bring up a good point. Even if we never make it to the playoffs while Sale is a member of the White Sox, he does bring a certain sort of value to the fans by giving us the opportunity to follow his career every 5th day and watch him pitch. If he ends up breaking some team records, wins a Cy Young or two, and gets his number retired, I would consider that to be providing a lot of benefit to me as a fan, even if the games he pitched were "meaningless" in the grand scheme of things. -
Chris Sale is the most bestest pitcher evar!

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 09:38 AM) No. But all he has to do is lower is ERA by half a run or so in the second half of the season and I think he has it in the bag. I say he just needs to get it below 2.50. Felix had a decent ERA lead over Kluber last year (2.14 to 2.44) and Kluber still won. -
Sale pitching in AS Game in Emergency situation ONLY

This thread is hilarious. I would have liked to see him pitch, but I also don't mind him getting extra rest. There is absolutely zero reason to get upset about this. -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) Dude are you ****ing kidding me. Seriously, if it's so easy for the Royals to beat us, why didn't they win the last series at the Cell? Greg has to be trolling. -
http://grantland.com/the-triangle/trading-...er-loan-system/ Bill Barnwell of Grantland suggests a player loan system like soccer in Europe has. He uses Sale as his prime example of a player that could be loaned to another team instead of wasting the rest of his season. Interesting idea but I still don't think I'd trust another team with Sale even with the rules in place.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Trust me. Nobody is concerned about an advantage in a series against a lousy sox team. Hope sale gets the win tonite This is baseball, the lousy teams still win more than 40% of the time (and this year the Sox have won 47%), bad teams win series against good teams all the time, and the Sox won the last series the two teams played. The idea that a team would look past another team when they are a division rival and have a pitcher like Sale is one of the most ridiculous things I've read. The Royals haven't clinched anything yet. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) I'd trade Melky and LaRoche for Bruce, nobody else except guys like Beckham and Boni and Conor and nobody wants those stiffs. The Reds want to trade Bruce to shed salary and you're going to to offer them two underperforming guys that would significantly increase their payroll?

The title is wrong, Rodon has a 4.18 ERA and a 3.67 FIP -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) Saturday is the battle between the pitcher that can't hold anyone on and the team that can't steal successfully. With that said, I don't like Lester's chances of getting a hit off of Sale. I wouldn't be shocked at this point to see Lester pick off one of our guys.
-
With no Danks pitching and Sale going I like our chances to take the series. I also wouldn't be surprised if we scored 4 runs total in the 3 games.

There is beating a dead horse, and there is bringing up the Buehrle/Danks situation. Pretty much every GM makes the same move at the time. Plus Buehrle alone doesn't suddenly make us contenders the last two years.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) I think that's wrong. I don't know that the pitching would be that much worse (prior to today, Smarj was a 4.5 era pitcher, hardly production we could not replace). And, for hypotheticals sake, assume same from Donaldson. I was being tongue-in-cheek with that post mostly.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) A fun hypothetical i've been thinking about... trading for Donaldson instead of samardjiza. Assume all pieces from major league club gone (obviously may have taken some prospects, but this only concerns this year), remove smarj from rotation, assume noesi: What do you think our record would be? Better/Same/Worse? Do same hypothetical and you can assume healthy McCarthy (for kicks). Knowing our luck with position players from other teams, Donaldson hits .220/.300/.375 with us and the pitching is much worse, and we're 35-48 at this point.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Schwarber is in the minors, so I imagine he will stay there. Soto should start friday and sunday. Soto should start against the lefty, he's one of our few competent hitters against LHP this year.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) Average bats wouldn't cost that much, unless you're lousy at negotiating trades. But I wouldn't do it anyway. If the Sox were in the East- maybe. But the only chance, and it's flailing, is at a WC. As for pitching in playoffs - sometimes it wins, and sometimes it doesn't. Hitting is at a premium these days though, average hitters might cost more than you think.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) The Sox still have to worst record in the AL right? I cant talk about Wild Card until they keep this up for another month and even then its just too late to decide you are going to play some baseball and make it to the playoffs. Better than Seattle and Oakland, but yeah unless we get back above .500 this Wild Card talk is crazy. I also hope this little run doesn't make them hesitate to trade Jeff if they get a good offer.
