There was a headline on ESPN yesterday that read something like "Mets' Arms vs. Cubs' Big Bats, a Must-See". What big bats? Cubs are 23rd in runs scored and 10th in the NL. Their offense is probably their biggest weakness right now, because their bullpen has been lights out the last month and they've been getting pretty good starting pitching.

Chris Sale is the most bestest pitcher evar!

Does Sale have a shot to start the ASG or is the ERA+IP gap from Keuchel just too large? Over at /r/baseball on Reddit almost all the non-White Sox fans are voting Sale as the starter, but I doubt it will happen. God damn Twins. -
Chris Sale on the cusp of making swing-and-miss history

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) I love Chris Sale as much as the rest, but let's be careful with the "hasn't even peaked yet" thing. Aging curves -- never rigid in the first place -- have been creeping toward the younger side for years now, and we know that velocity especially peaks very young. Pitchers that have long, HOF careers typically do so because they are able to evolve their approach and arsenal as their stuff declines. I do think that Chris can be one of those guys, but we should acknowledge that his "stuff" is as good now as it will ever be and that he isn't due to become physically more dominant just because he isn't 27 yet. There are always exceptions, of course, but they're rare. I agree, unless you're Randy Johnson your peak is probably coming in the 26-28 range. Baseball prime 10-15 years ago was 28-32 but now it's probably more like 26-30. -
So we shouldn't be overly concerned that Adams' strikeout rate has dropped significantly from last year?
-
Sale is only behind in the Cy Young race due to his ERA. He's at 2.87 right now. Last year Felix had a 30+ point edge over Kluber and didn't win it. As long as he's kinda close at the end if he continues to dominate the advanced metrics he could win it easily.
-
Sale hasn't K'ed anyone in a while, he looks tired. A lot of pitches again.
-
If the season ended today there's no way Sale wins the Cy Young of course but if he keeps up this recent level the rest of the year he will run away with it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) It's the opposite, chris hasn't been on their level in anything other than the strikeout title, but I'm too tired to fight this one so I'll just link to the stats. By advanced metrics he's right up there with all of them. He leads all AL pitchers in fWAR.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) Pitchers in MLB history with 10+ strikeouts in 8 straight games: 1. Pedro Martinez 2. Chris Sale. f*** yeah

1 more K Chris.

This Cardinal lineup today blows.

We suck so hard at scoring in that situation, my god.

Why is Flowers always up when the bases are loaded?

Big break

If Johnson could pitch well enough to be a capable 5th starter, I'd be happy.
-
On the bright side, if Lynn shuts down the Sox that means he will be in the game longer and give Sale more K opportunities when he bats.
-
I was looking at some stats today, and I noticed that Bryant and LaRoche have basically the same walk and strikeout rates, with LaRoche having a slight advantage in each. Bryant has 2 more extra base hits in 9 more PA, and then the difference is that he has a .380 BABIP to LaRoche's .318. Interesting that LaRoche gets roasted for his performance though, when stastically the two aren't super far apart.

All the Cub fans yesterday were complaining about the Cardinals getting "lucky", as if the Cubs haven't pulled a bunch of wins completely out of their asses this year.
-
How bad would Danks have to pitch to finally get kicked out of the rotation? At this point part of me wants him to get completely bombed just to speed up the process. Sunk cost, God damnit.
-
Sanchez gave up just 4 HR last year and 9 the year before. He's already given up 15 this year (a bunch to us too). What happened?
-
Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition

Oakland is playing themselves back into the race. Another seller potentially off the table. The only sellers in the AL right now could be us and the Red Sox. Then in the NL there's the Brewers, Phillies, and maybe the Rockies? Who else will throw in the towel? -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Lester continues to under perform this year. He was far from ace material in 2013 and 2012 as well, this isn't entirely unexpected.

Yeah Robertson is quickly becoming a bad contract. Since his amazing start he's been very disappointing.
