  1. Man as bad as our catchers have been at the plate, I just saw that Seattle has a .471 OPS and Tampa Bay has a .453 OPS from their catchers. Holy s***.
  2. Eaton's OPS is now over .700. Considering he was well under .500 to start May I'll take it. If only his glove could improve with his bat...
  3. I've always thought Sandoval was way overrated, hard pass on him. Meh on Hanley.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) Will be interesting to see how the Cubs and Astros draft when they are no longer picking inside the top 10. Then we will see just how good their scouting is. The organization that impressed me most is the Cardinals. They have not picked higher than 19th over all since 2008 when they picked 13th and yet here they are still developing major league talent year after year. Bryant is the only big piece of the major league team this year that the Cubs got through the draft and he was a no-brainer. Pretty much all their good players have come through free agency and trades. They're not necessarily a good model for the draft, their scouting is good because they've hit on almost all of their trades over the past few years.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Cmon. LaRoche is a D like everybody not named Abreu and maybe Beckham C or C-. He has one of the top walk rates in baseball and has a .750 OPS, and he's really not that far off his career stats for the first half of the season. He's struck out too much and hasn't been great by any means, but overall he's been an above average hitter. It's not really fair to lump him in with the rest of the bums on our team.
  6. He sounds like a major dbag in his responses, what a prick. He really acts like a know-it-all, yet all his proposals in his piece are complete garbage.
  7. The Twins are going to cost Sale the Cy Young this year, just like the Indians possibly did in 2013. He's given up 32 earned runs this year, and 16 to the Twins. They've scored half the runs he's given up this year (more than half if you include unearned runs).
  8. Record still in play I guess, though that 4th inning ruined his consecutive K streak for innings. f*** the Twins.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) Neither guy will be a very good MLB player it seems. Bit early to say that on both of them, especially Micah.
  10. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) I'm pretty sure Sanchez has been the most useless offensive player in the majors since we've been starting him. At this point, why not see if Micah's bat will translate over an extended period of time and see if he is going to get any better in the field up here? Plus Micah was actually doing OK with the bat when he was up here. But he needs to work on his defense. If it's in Charlotte or up here I don't care.
  11. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) One of the more unique K,s this year What happened? I'm following on GameDay.
  12. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) Which would you all take if we could only have one? At this point #2.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 01:14 AM) You touched on all the highlights and the weird-light. 15 hits and "only" six runs. No on Soto next year. Happy he is making contact, though. Nice contribution tonight. I find it impossible to believe Sox beat Minnie in Minnie. One win in the series isn't good but it's better than the usual sweep. GO SOX! He obviously wouldn't be my first choice but at this point Soto>>>Flowers.
  14. Twins have gotten to Sale a couple times this year, if there was a start I'd worry about his streak ending, it's this one.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) for eaton, i think that it is that 2yr jinx that always reels its ugly head. It's the defense I'm much more worried about. It's really the horrendous April that's making his offensive numbers look bad. He hasn't been great in May or June necessarily but an OPS of .727 and .750 are a lot closer to what he was last year. However, it doesn't matter if his offense rebounds if his defense continues to be horrible.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) I know the Sox are not good at scouting, drafting and development but you are both right. At some point the Sox will have to face their fears and start taking chances again on drafting hitters in the earlier rounds. I will say that the Sox drafted the right guys the last two years. I mean, how could they pass on those arms? And it's looking like with another high pick again next year another great arm will be there for the taking.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) If by "hold his own" you mean, "put up -0.3 fWAR in just 83 PA," then we are in agreement. Sub-replacement level is a strange definition of "hold his own" though. Maybe he meant offensively? He wasn't great at the plate but he wasn't bad either.
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) Astros and Cubs weren't build through the proceeds of sell-offs. They were built through the draft. Oh, they got pieces here and there through trades (esp. Cubs), but it's evaluation, development and drafting. The Sox are poor at all 3. The only team that sells well is the As. That's not really true, the only significant contributor on the Cubs this year that they drafted is Bryant. Everyone else came through free agency or savvy trades. EDIT: Even if you count Castro and Soler (though they weren't acquired through the draft), those two are hardly the reason the Cubs have been successful this year, Castro in particular.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 10:36 PM) Over two days the Dodgers have been shut down by the Wada-Wood-Hammel trifecta. The Cubs aren't gonna win the division, but I am penciling then in the WC game right now, not much competition in the NL. Right now it's looking like the Cardinals, Pirates and Cubs are going to finish 1-2-3 in the NL, no one else really looks that good.
  20. Against just the Twins we have a -40 run differential, what a joke. The Twins are -32 against everyone else.
  21. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) 3 WAR players have fetched plenty at the trade deadline. You know that. What are some recent examples?
  22. Has Avi's knee contributed to his recent poor play? He was our best hitter before he went down, and since he's come back his performance has plummeted. I'm not blaming it all on the knee but that has to be part of it, right?
  23. QUOTE (michelangelosmonkey @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) Really THAT'S your take away? Which of the Cubs starters would you trade straight up for Rodon, Sale or even Q? Hammel's old. Lester is old and expensive. Arrieta's is 30 and has a season and a half of success. Hendricks isn't good. And the POINT wasn't are the Cubs good...which I think they are...but they built around hitting and their pitching, irrespective of team ERA is a bit shaky. The Sox will lose Shark off their payroll next year and with five cheap starting pitchers can go out and sign two or three high priced free agents to make the team better. Lester really isn't that old, and Arrieta looks like the real deal, you're selling him short. Hammel has been one of the better pitchers in the league this year. As fathom pointed out too, they have plenty of assets to add another pitcher. Their pitchers might not be super young but they're not really old either.
