Sox expecting to open '18 with both Avi and Abreu
OmarComing25 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
FWIW xStats had Avi at a .295/.347/.493 line, a .333 xBABIP and a .356 wOBA, which still would have put him as the 7th best RF offensively last year, basically even with Reddick. xStats is claiming he got quite unlucky on the HR front, saying he "should have" hit 25 homeruns instead of just 18. Eyeballing his batted ball profile I'm not exactly sure why he supposedly lost so many homeruns but maybe the significantly increased Pull% should have had more of an effect than it did. -
Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
OmarComing25 replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 10:33 AM) The wait and see is knowing you have a surplus at outfielder vs the white sox anticipating they have a surplus at places, such as pitching before it is clear that they do. As for Yelich, at 26 he should still provide long-term value as a CF whereas Dyson may make more sense to move to RF. Either way, they are getting a defensive upgrade over Santana. You are right that if you look at zips, yelich is slated for a 113 wrc+, as is Santana. But they have two legitimate outfielders now, and they will need that defense because their pitching staff is going to be much more royals/astros than nationals. Yelich is also the 10th best CF in fangraphs, who knows if he could be more valuable in RF a la Eaton. His arm will be a knock, however. Just looking at UZR, Yelich has a career -5.9 UZR/150 in CF and a career 4.4 UZR/150 in LF, and given the positional adjustment is 10 runs from CF to the corners, it looks like a wash. You're right about the arm though if they stick him in RF instead. But I would expect any guy capable of playing CF to play good enough defense in the corners to offset the move to the less valuable defensive position and Eaton is a good example. -
2018 Hall of Fame ballots out today.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 03:14 PM) Next year’s ballot, I would instantly pick Bonds, Clemens, Schilling, Mussina, Rivera, and Halladay. I’ve always been a McGriff guy, and even though I’ve never been an Edgar guy, I’d vote for both in the last year. Final two picks, I might be coming around on Rolen and Kent, but Helton has a strong case. Just curious, if you think Helton has a strong case then why not also consider Walker? He was better than Helton. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 08:52 AM) How many players on these lists are ranked that were drafted after Collins and Burger? I haven't really looked. Just curious. I was curious too so I looked it up. From the 2016 draft after Collins: Bo Bichette (#8) Forrest Whitley (#10) Austin Hays (#21) Taylor Trammell (#48) Alec Hansen (#57) Kyle Lewis (#67) Mitchell White (#69) Jon Duplantier (#73) Corbin Burnes (#74) Dane Dunning (#82) Jason Groome (#83) Tyler O'Neill (#86) From the 2017 draft after Burger: Alex Faedo (#50) J.B. Bukauskas (#76) Heliot Ramos (#79) Nate Pearson (#91) Brent Rooker (#92)

Sox randomly linked to JD Martinez for some reason
OmarComing25 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 10:00 AM) Heyman is known to be used and abused by Boras. Of course the offers are way higher. The original report came from Olney, not Heyman. And the offers might be higher but I'm skeptical that they're way higher, Boras isn't exactly an unbiased source. We still don't even know who else would put in a big offer for him besides Boston, there aren't any other obvious fits. -
2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

Josh Nelson 12:10 Saw your tweet from the White Sox hitters camp. Who impresses you the most from that group? Eric A Longenhagen 12:11 It was Robert and it wasn't close. Hit balls out to all fields during BP, more raw pop than anyone else taking BP on that field including Burger and Sheets From Longenhagen's and McDaniel's chat today.

Lorenzo Cain would be a perfect fit for them.

Avi Garcia Ranked 8th best RF in MLB
OmarComing25 replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Fangraphs Depth Charts project him as tied at the 12th best RF with Kepler and Polanco and right behind Haniger (the RF projections list includes Hicks/Springer/Cruz/Eaton and Matt Olson also above Avi, but I wouldn't count them as RF), and really you should put him 11th unless you want to count both Stanton and Judge as RF this year. That also includes JD Martinez, who might not end up in RF if he signs with Boston, thus moving Avi up another spot. Next in line after Haniger are Mazara and Heyward, and you could argue for Avi over those two. #8 definitely doesn't seem outrageous even with regression. -
2018 better or another chase for the first overall pick?
OmarComing25 replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2018 -> 07:04 PM) On the flip side, the Sox will have full seasons from Moncada, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Delmonico, etc. My point is that if the Sox are so bad to the extent that they get another top 5 pick, 2018 will be a horrible failure. We could easily get good seasons from every single one of those guys and still end up with a top 5 pick. -
Alec Hansen: The most underrated player in MiLB?
OmarComing25 replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 10:17 AM) Currently ranked 91st by MLB, and I still think that is too low for him. To be fair that list hasn’t been updated for 2018 yet I don’t think, it’s from mid-season last year. I expect him to be higher on the updated list. -

I'm also interested. -
These projections aren’t great but they’re still better than the Steamer projections, who currently have us as the worst team in baseball by 8 games.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) I would bet that if he makes a list it will be on mlb pipeline but I think he's off BA/Fangraphs/Law. This is what I think too, and I bet he'll barely crack the list on mlb pipeline. -

QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) I'm gonna guess something closer to the Eaton trade, which the above package obliterates. Rutherford, Cease, Collins and a flier is what I imagine it would be. But I'd also skip out on it. I don't think that package comes close to getting it done. Substitute Robert for Rutherford and it may get done, but even then it still feels light (probably need a better second piece than Cease). But yeah although I was initially in favor of it I'll pass. Maybe after next year if Yelich is still on the market. -

OmarComing25 replied to peppers312's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Cameron wrote an article today suggesting the Indians go after Machado and move Ramirez back to 2B. That would be ideal for us IMO, subtract from their future years when we'll be competitive. -
Yeah "dollface" is still really weird but I saw nothing wrong with the long legs remark, it was fine with the context.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) I was referring to players significantly better than those guys ($100+ million contract guys), not guys in the tier you referenced You're not getting 3 players significantly better than those guys for a combined $40 million a year, it's going to cost a lot more. -

Any chance we could do a heavily front-loaded deal with an opt out after a few years? -
White Sox have shown interest in Machado
OmarComing25 replied to peppers312's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yesterday Dave Cameron wrote an article saying Ozuna and Machado should have roughly similar trade values. With these names we’re hearing that obviously doesn’t sound like the case. I really don’t think one year of Machado should get Baltimore a top 50 prospect but with several teams in the mix who knows. Kopech would be pure insanity. -

OmarComing25 replied to peppers312's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Unless Machado is engaged/married to Renteria’s second cousin I don’t see him signing an extension. -
I didn't see that as Dan saying he'll be below replacement level, just that he thinks Sox fans will expect a repeat of last year (although most of us don't). Steamer has him as a roughly league average player and I don't see his ZIPS projection as being much worse than that.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) He's not a superstar but he's pretty damn consistent and fits into the contention window perfectly with his skill set and contract He's a very very good player now despite his insanely high grounder rates. Guy hits the ball really hard, if he could ever hit the ball in the air more he'd be a top 10 player in the league (though this is something they've been saying for years). I'm with you, I'd definitely be interested in acquiring him, especially if we can get a discount due to the Marlins dysfunction right now. I'm interested to see what Ozuna goes for. -

There's no way we trade for him right now but if this tweet is a signal that the White Sox are open to spending big next offseason then this is good news.
