  1. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) He's been a lot like Frank Thomas his entire career. Frank was never as bad as Pujols has been this year. Frank was still a very good hitter the last few years of his career and even in 2008 he still put up a .349 OBP. Pujols has a .287 OBP this year.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 08:23 PM) That's wild. I'm kinda surprised his wRC+ is so high. Elevated because of baserunning then? http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/wrc/ I don't think baserunning factors in, it's more his OBP that's driving it. And his BsR is currently only rated 0.1 anyway (though that seems low). EDIT: nevermind it does factor in.
  3. With that HR Moncada has now surpassed Devers in wRC+. Pretty impressive considering where they both were just a couple weeks ago.
  4. Only the 9th homer given up by Peacock on the year. That was destroyed.
  5. Tying run at 2nd in the 9th with 2 outs. Presley strikes out, Tigers lose.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) I just checked the standings in the very first post (link to the site). Looks like half a game from second and 2 from 1st. Though we're tied in the win column with the Phillies (though it's really 1 back because we can't tie them) and 1 back from the Giants.
  7. That .186 BABIP and 90% LOB isn't going to last and I'd like to see him get more Ks (though the swinging strike% seems fine) but obviously it's hard not to be encouraged by him so far. The lack of walks is nice to see, though when he misses his location he seems to miss by a lot. The curveball doesn't look that great but that might not matter because his changeup looks really good.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) Surprised that there is no Joey Gallo reference. Because Joey Gallo is actually good. He has a 125 wRC+ and ~3 WAR on the season, he is way better than every other hitter mentioned in the article, he clearly does not belong in that group.
  9. Phillies with a comeback win, thank you Hoskins.
  10. I think the juiced ball played a factor back then too. Homeruns league wide spiked pretty much overnight from 1995-1996. I don't think the league all just started using steroids at the same time.
  11. From Longenhagen's chat today: Dooduh 12:18 Name 5 minor league catchers you see as ML regulars 5 years from now (not counting Mejia). Eric A Longenhagen 12:21 I'll say Sisco, Collins, Stephenson, Haase, Trevino Anthony 12:23 So at this time last year you hyped up Acuna as a potential top 10 guy a year from now. Anyone you could see making that type of jump this timev around? Eric A Longenhagen 12:24 Yeah, I had him in the 30s on the overall top 100 last offseason (I think?) so I'll look to that range on my SUmmer 100 for a name... 12:25 I could see a breakout Leody Taveras year or a summer of Luis Robert raking through three levels happening.
  12. Lopez has 3 strikeouts in his last 17 innings, that's not going to work.
  13. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) lol...Hawk would spit in your face if you called that a strike. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DJyifouXoAAVg9S?format=jpg Even if you don't think pitch trackers are 100% accurate they aren't off by THAT much, it was pretty much right down the middle.
  14. There was no doubt Moncada was scoring on that, got to love speed.
  15. His career BABIP is .340 so I think .320 is selling him short.
  16. Best command I've ever seen Fulmer have tonight, hope it continues.
  17. He's got command of his offspeed stuff and when he's missed it's not been by much.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) It also suggests he is better than Mike Trout out there who is at -4 . Although Trout plays the much tougher position.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) LOL, Lackey and Contreras ejected in the 5th inning today. Anytime you can get both your starting pitcher and catcher ejected in the middle of a September pennant race game, that's impressive. That was a terrible call though, it was right down the middle. Ump probably missed it in part due to Lackey missing his spot and Contreras having to reach for the pitch, but you can't miss that call. Contreras has to stay calm though, he can't get himself suspended right now. EDIT: Actually looking at it again it wasn't so much Lackey missing his spot as it was a terrible framing job by Contreras.
  20. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) If Melky Cabrera was 26.. Would you really give him a 5 year 80 million dollar deal? The perfect comp to Avi Garcia is Melky.. period. Nah Melky has rated as a bottom five outfielder defensively the last couple years while Avi has rated out as average/neutral, that's a big difference. Plus Avi is much faster.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) The interesting bit there is that it rates Avi as completely nuetral. 0. He rated a 0 in 2016 as well. And this data doesn't include the impact of the arm, right? Just catches made/not made.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) The Indians have the longest winning streak in the history of baseball. People should be making a bigger deal out of this. To be fair the tie during the Giants streak was continued the next day in a doubleheader and the Giants won both games, but it was still recorded as a tie and didn't count. So IMO the Giants still have that record, but then again it was over 100 years ago.
  23. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) wut Wrong thread? He's talking about Abreu, not Moncada
